And I know that the internet has mostly become " for the comments" but, it becomes clear that a soon as a political subject is brought , people tend to not even engage with the content in the video but go directly to talk about what they think about the subject. In a video that addresses the financial aspect of things, be it birdman's own content or my take on ubisoft, none of that is addressed... It makes it genuinely hard to engage in any discourse. How did Mulan beat the main bad guy? I can't seem to remember from the animated film. Something about blasting fireballs from her hands and using magical powers. Yeah, not at all just out smarting him and avoiding direct combat because he could carve her in half with a single blow because he's a human gorilla on steroids. I'm sorry Chill but of ALL the examples you had to pick, that was possibly the worst.
I must agree with that. The Disney Mulan didn't beat the villain using raw strength or even in a direct one-to-one combat. He was instead blown up to smithereens by a rocket. His entire army was eradicated by an avalanche caused by a rocket she shot at a mountain.
@@redwithcoffee619 Yep, Mulan was shown in the training scene and throughout the movie outsmarting any problem she faced through cleverness. Ppl who in the past ridiculed us for having a passion, now smelled a chance for a quick buck and stole our platforms. I made a John Wick style montage using SC Blacklist stylish takedowns. Looks badass with music I chose. If only we got a proper JW game that way, Ubisoft could license. Too late now....
Regarding Yasuke; as far as TH-camrs are concerned I trust Metatron the most when it comes to this topic since he has studied and knows Japanese history and knows the language, has an academic background and does his research as thoroughly as humanly possible with his academic contacts and according to him we simply don't know if Yasuke was a samurai. Partly due to the very sparse documents with information about him. One of the reasons why it's a big question mark is, as far as I understood, because the word 'samurai' was not in as wide usage at the time. Yasuke was made into a 'bushi' which not only meant their equivalent of samurai back then but also things like retainer, so it was a broad term. And we don't know what 'bushi' meant in Yasuke's case. And also having katanas doesn't automatically make someone a samurai either. So, because we don't know if Yasuke was a samurai for sure I don't really mind or care if Yasuke is depicted as a samurai in a supposedly (mostly) historically accurate game. Of course making him a samurai would make the story more interesting. That being said, am I honestly supposed to believe that Ubisoft decided to make Yasuke the protagonist in Assassins' Creed: Shadow purely for the sake of a cool story and historical accuracy with no other ulterior, possibly ideological, motives? Not only is this the first time in the game franchise's history that (one of) the protagonist is an actual historical figure who was real, is not a well known Japanese samurai thus native to the land/culture the game is supposed to depict like in every previous game and instead they decided to go with this one in a million foreign oddity who just so happens to be black like Yasuke. Sorry but I don't buy that. If they really wanted to tell the story from an outsider's perspective as they claim they could've gone with William Adams who we know for a fact was a samurai under shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. But in that case the other extreme side of this whole culture war would've thrown a hissy fit instead screaming "colonizers!", "white washing!!" and "cultural appropriation!!!" etc. I believe they at least partly chose Yasuke to shield themselves not only from the criticism about historical accuracy (of which they're getting plenty that is not only Yasuke related) but from any and all criticism. But the morally most questionable thing about this whole thing is about Yasuke's same sex romance option in the game. I don't believe that this is 100% confirmed yet but let's assume you can hook up with a man with Yasuke: does Ubisoft know if Yasuke showed any interest in men? Because I'm pretty sure no one wrote about his bedroom habits. If not, did they ask for this man's consent who's been dead for over 400 years to be depicted as gay/bi in a videogame? Did they get a psychic and contact his spirit during a seance session or something? If Yasuke was a fictional character I'd not care. But this is a real man we're talking about and he, like most people on earth, was most likely straight with 90-95% likelihood. And I don't know about any of you but I'd not feel comfortable depicting a real man from history whom we know very little about as gay in a videogame, especially one that claims (or at least did at one point) to take historical accuracy seriously. Sorry for the long post about this one small part of the entire video. I did enjoy hearing your more neutral and, let's say less confrontational and level-headed, perspective about this whole culture war issue even if I don't necessarily agree with everything you say. I also try to be more critical of the anti-woke people because I don't want to end up being on just the other extreme side of the same coin. Extreme anti-wokers have more things in common with the wokers they claim to fight against than they realize.
I find it more that they put Yasuke to avoid criticism because they delayed its launch on February of 2025. Which is considered to be black appreciation month in the US. So it feels like they trying to avoid criticism over those criticizing the game, to the point that they are disregarding the criticism of Japanese people as being originated from the US.
So it would have been okay if the "outsider" protagonist they used was a white guy? But it's political if it's a black guy? I think you're missing the point. AC is not about 1 to 1 history about people that they took that existed in time. Have you played an AC game? Was there a proof that Leonardo Da Vinci worked with the assassins? Was there something in his journal about finishing an incomplete version the hiddne blacde the assassin's were using? What about Blackbeard? Was there a real document about him being friends wih a guy named Edward Kenway? What about Leonidas, was there a historical document about him having a Grandchildren? And magical grandchildren at that? You are missing the point, my friend. Yasuke could have been a dango vendor in real world history. And that doesn't matter. AC Shadows could still have made it so that he was an assassin or a samurai.
@@WokioWolfy The criticisms of Japanese people? You mean white guys on twitter using google translate? Also let's be real here for a sec. Japanese people have no right to criticize other media for "disrespectful" or "inaccurate" portrayal of other cultures. Have you watched a single anime from Japan?
@@Sakuna451 Nah I'd have asked the same questions as in the case of Yasuke: 1. why historical character as playable protagonist all of a sudden and 2. why a not a native Japanese that everyone was expecting? But at least there would not have been a question whether William Adams was a samurai. And like I said; it'd have been considered political from the other side of the aisle. The safest option would've been a Japanese samurai, historical or fictional. And I'm sure Ubisoft knew that but they picked Yasuke anyway because... Well, you tell me. I have not played any Assassins Creed games because they're not my kinda games but what I do know is that never before has a real person from history been a PLAYABLE protagonist in any of those games until Shadows. I did know that historical figures did appear in the games, like Leonardo Da Vinci, Socrates, George Washington, Blackbeard and so on. It's one thing to make them do cool fictional stuff in the game to be more engaged to the story when it doesn't contradict them as people we know from history. But making them gay, when there is zero evidence for it and they were most certainly straight, is a whole other story and reeks of wokeness or DEI. You certainly don't do that to make the game better, I guarantee you that. Hell, I'm sure people would've been fine with Yasuke being in the game as an NPC the same way or even as a playable character in a story DLC, like Adéwalé from The Black Flag, where his story is told because it is a very fascinating journey that should be made into a mini TV-series like Shogun (I watched the Netflix anime and it was dreadful).
@@Sakuna451 Do you know how many of those "Japanese" are white guys using google translate? Half of them? One third? Quarter? 5%? In fact, why did Ubisoft issue an apology if the Japanese had zero problems with the game and how Japanese culture is depicted? And even if Japanese portray other cultures inaccurately or disrespectfully in their media, that doesn't mean we, or Ubisoft, needs to do it to them too. I have yet to find a single British, German, French or American giving two Fs about how they and their cultures are usually portrayed in a very stereotypical way in the animes that I've seen. If anything it's usually funny.
The fact your being oblivious to the problems of ac shadows is absurd. The amount of times the team has disrespected the culture is insane. The historical fiction argument does not work cause the games tend to go for the mostly accurate in the setting unless its changes to fit the fictional story. Using a budda statue they dont have permission for, a statue with half a tori gate, and chinese architecture. The #1 most preorder in japan for ps5 is most likely a bs marketing metric. With yasuke, birdman and you are being disingenuous. With historical record, the best you can say is i dont know and saying otherwise on both sides is a grift of equal measure. Using the excuse of, " these other games and properties from japan depict yasuke as a samurai" is not an indicator of anything. Its called creative liberty. Lets not get into the "liberties" ubi is taking with yasuke. Im not on the anti woke or woke side at all and the fact that these things dont get talked about on the left is dumb. And the fact that you and others are ignoring it to dunk on anti woke is crazy. The gaming (and movie) industry has so many issues with how dei and the like is implemented and there are normal, sane individuals talking about it that are not the super anti woke types but the fact they get ignored and labeled as a grift cause of people like birdman and you is insane. The current working of dei is bad writing, tokenization, one note characters, ruining of a properties lore for personal political beliefs, and telling people they are an "ist" or a "phobe" if they criticize it properly. Even to the people they are supposedly catering to. Birdman is similer to the people he complains about cause he does similer tactics. Just a grift from the opposite side. All your doing of feeding the divide and not understanding from what seems to be political beliefs. The exact same thing you criticize others for.
Not only that, but AC Shadows, since the beginning, was promoted as being historically accurate. Only now they said it's fictional yet people were criticizing them solely on this reason alone, saying it is historically accurate when in reality people found a ton of inaccuracies.
@@FrostbiteDigital "Wahhhh, wahmen, wahhhhh!" - You. Sorry, but if you're complaining about female custodes, then you havent been a fan of warhammer for long. Games Workshop has played it fast and loose with the lore since 40ks inception.
All too often with the anti-woke people is they focus on things that really don't matter while ignoring other significant problems that are way worse. The most annoying thing about the Assassin's Creed Shadows "controversy" is Ubisoft's bad business practices taking a back seat to the "woke" criticism when Ubisoft's bad business practices should have been the primary point of contention when this game was first announced. Hiding content behind a paywall as an attempt to funnel consumers to subscribing Ubisoft's gaming service is infinitely more troubling than the so called "woke agenda" impacting this game. It's almost as if Ubisoft intentionally gave the anti-woke people bait so their main point of contention was focused off of Ubisoft's corrupt business model.
The business model has been a thing for a while. Now, people have just gotten used to it. Buy still, im all for seeing this game burn if it means bringing down a gaming giant down a peg

brother, i watched the drunk review on the movie, he criticized the fact that alot of the tropes the movie uses are cliche as f, especialy the fact that the girl is the center of everything, the special snowflake that can save the world and everything conveniently falls together for the protagonists. A lot of the problems we have with the anti-woke sht now is that the content was tailored with inserting political agendas first and foremost instead of making a good product. Most people dont care about it, people want the escapism they are there for in the first place, not to have a poorly made product that hammer irl politycs left and right. Just look at baldur's gate 3, that has the whole package of "woke" and people loved it, because thats not the focus, its not constantly reminding you of it, it's just part of it, part of the great product as a whole. So because of the mediocre safe slop that we are being fed now, like outlaws where you cant be an outlaw because disney didnt alow the players to do questionable actions, and the own company is afraid of putting out an "atracktive character" like they said themselves. Now everything that comes out of the west people are skeptical even when it has nothing of woke in it. Now we cant have a black protagonist, or a gay character in it without people thinking its the woke agenda changing the story forcibly.
Like seriously on the BG3 one, please make sure you revisit the comments people were making after preview Larian gave which included the bear scene. People were almost foaming at the mouth about the "woke" that was going to be served unto them. Until it made a shitton of money and sales and they couldn't make the argument that "go woke go broke" applies so they just... moved on and shut up so they wouldn't draw attention that they're generally liars with nothing to say other than a script they get paid to read. The script is metaphorical. Do agree on the Disney thing, though it was done for a lot longer than just the past decade and by a way wider array of companies for a lot more IPs than just Disney's. I remember Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation fame making a point about Mario not really being included in games Nintendo didn't deem as being slated for success (more experimental titles) for fear that they would tarnish his image, so they used Luigi instead so they could still bank on name recognition and this was quite a few years back. He wasn't wrong. Companies need to hold onto their successful IPs with all they have AND make sure that their properties sell so they dumb them down, the sand away the corners and they sell basically grey mush to the masses, trying to attract as wide of a demographic as they can. This is capitalism. The woke panic was started by opportunists who saw what Gamergate was able to do and noticed the financial opportunities that could be profited from by taking part in the culture war. They picked the side with the most money, the one that has actual millionaires and billionaires funding them, instead of the myth that is "the Soros backing" and just started grifting, then never stopped. People got their minds shattered by the sheer amount of propaganda overloading them with this flawed worldview and now here we are.
Yeah... the typical crowd was angry at BG3 because of the bear stuff. That criticism went away pretty fast however because most sane people saw that criticism as foolish. It also exposed the grift to a lot of people who didn't know about youtube grifters.
@vetreas366 That happens with every "wOkE" game that turns out to be successful. They complain about it before it releases, then when it comes out and is successful, they go silent and pretend they weren't complaining about it. Exactly the same with games that Sweet Baby Inc was involved with. If a game is bad and SBI was involved, then SBI is ruining games. But they ignore the extremely successful games SBI was involved with like God of War Ragnarok, Alan Wake 2 and Spiderman 2, because it goes against their agenda.
Birdman defining 'woke' as quartering would use it and then using that to go after critical drinker who is much more nuanced is pretty big strawman and the type of narrative flipflopping he is accusing critical drinker of doing. I would be extremely critical with what Th3birdman is saying.

What is the context about spreading a false narrative? Or about the kong reading? Oh you mean like it was a trailer? Doesn't disporve his point that Drinker always has to prime the talk about race even in movoes where its not ghe focus, hence his atrocious clip from the Across the Spider Verse video. So what's the context missing there? That he liked the movie? Duh that wasnt the point. The point was how Drinker had to mention that Peter is a white cis man and is a loser and the only one in the movie to be shown to have any inportance. So again, what's the context cut out?
@@joseantoniovargas6548 Drinker is merely operating under the same rules as the studios. How many firsts has Hollywood declared in the last eight years with regards to black or woman or lgbt? If when they're going to market a movie that'll be their main talking point why is it suddenly a problem when the other side uses it to point out that most of those "firsts" are utter shit? And actually that is the point. Drink WILL talk about it, because again, that's all Hollywood cares about. But it also shows that despite that, if the movie is enjoyable, he won't lie about to bring down it's numbers... Like how other reviewers/journalists do for other movies or even video games. I'm a believer there can be too much "woke" (hate the term), however having a female protagonist, a gay protagonist, a black protagonist or any minority present in the media doesn't make the product "woke". Holy shit some people just lose their minds over nothing.
Yeah you can have minority characters, but when the entire point of having them is to go and say to your preferred audience "hey look how progressive we are, we have (insert minority)" I think it's just terrible. It's disingenuous pandering. Now in movies and TV minorities are actually getting massively over represented, and groups like GLAAD don't think that's far enough, they want even more, which is just not good for writing. When you're are actively being forced to write characters a certain way it hampers storytelling, it leads to them being much more 1 dimensional. The amount of LGBT characters in media who have no personality other than literally quoting leftist talking points is ridiculous. At the end of the day writers need to make interesting characters, and we should not be encouraging them to write shitty characters just because they have a minority skin color or stated sexual preference.
@4:00 Anyone who is harassing someone just because of something is not okay in any sense. There's a clear line between harassment and calling out. Which is not wrong, but I think it is a hard thing to accomplish. Diversity, or even forced diversity on anything is but a miniscule inconsequential part of a game/story, it being forced can detract from the story, but if the product is good people will still like it, and if it is bad then it is just another problem added to the pile.
I honestly think both sides have their issues. On one side you have people getting made at Ghost of Yotei calling it woke cause of the voice actor playing the character even though from what I’ve seen she doesn’t let her views interfere with her work. Then on the other side you have people getting mad at the black myth wukong devs cause it’s not diverse enough for them. Cause their not mature enough to play a character that doesn’t look like them. But I can see both views stuff like diversity and progressive elements can make a good product better. But it will make a bad product worse. Honestly if we stopped pointing the finger and saying the other side is the problem and came to a middle ground we’d be better for it.

If nobody took DEI and woke seriously then why is there such a universal resistance and backlash towards Concord, Dustborn and AC Shadows? Don't be naive
Concord and Dustborn were rejected because they looked bad and were trying to tap a small and established market. It has nothing to do with "woke" because even the "woke" people weren't interested. BG3 was game of thr year for fuck sake lol
They have meaning to the same people that overuse and abuse it. It's a word that they can use whenever they want to accuse something of being bad because it contains things that they don't like but know would be fully socially unacceptable to admit to not liking. Birdman is not exactly innocent of grifting himself - a quick analysis of his character from his twitter to replies to comments, he is as apolitical as Vaush is and many times equally as honest. The other day he made a rant video an hour long in response to smaller TH-cam Channel - The Aristocratic Utensil - video less than a day after it was made, and he (Birdman) not only spent the entire opening sequence of that hour long mess of a response video just spewing word vomit, but completely missing AU's point for the entirety of it. Given the very long nature of the video and being less than a day after AU's vid, and consider the very childish edit of AU's theme, Th3Birdman was butthurt and literally all of AU's watchers - most of whom disagree with him - just did what AU has always told them ro do - look at the character of the person attacking you, and that answers all of your questions. Which they did, and Birdman is a Californian Bernie Bro, and fits the stereotype perfectly.
i know practically nothing of this situation, but are you sure you actually know what grifting is? if you have political views, even if you don't openly talk about it, doesn't mean your grifting. grifting is purposely changing your political views to something that is inherently incongruent from your actual beliefs so that you can capture a specific audience.
@@GameSquad306 correction: grifting is a conning technique that involves deliberately misleading people into believing a premise that you know to be false or opposite to what you believe. Birdman claims to be apolitical - he is not and very apparent he is not - and deliberately uses misleading information to backup his point. Example; he used footage of Critical Drinkers review of the Kong Vs. Godzilla *trailer* and presented it as evidence of criticising the film and passed it off as judging the film without even seeing it, and goes on a tangent about how Drinker does not even know the movies he is reviewing - that is both disengenuous and grifting at its peak - because it is obvious that Drinker was reviewing the trailer by the title
@@Billmaster115 Not to mention Birdman did fluctuate around these people, particularly with Mauler and Jay Exci. Then he got offended over Spiderman or Godzilla and went into a tyrade. It's weird whenever you glance at the history of people, like Gmanlives used to stream with Critical Drinker. On one hand people will say 'oh they matured and grew up' and then there's what I like to call, 'influencers just doing their job.' I always assumed that's what grifting was, just garnering and pitching to whatever your audience sways.
@@Billmaster115 I mean you basically just told me back my definition but with slightly shifted verbage. do you have any proof or a source where he said he was completely apolitical? because I doubt that statement is in full context. also, you are criticizing a film when you critique its trailer. I actually agree with birdman's take there. why on earth are you reviewing trailers when you could just watch the movie and review that? what is the point? he literally does not know the movie he is reviewing because he hasn't actually seen the thing. are you really criticizing birdman because he failed to mention it was a "review" of a trailer instead of the film itself? this hardly seems like a serious fault, and more so just seems like you picking for anything to admonish. secondly, this honestly fails to even show that he grifting. someone can just be incorrect and they don't have you be grifting, you realize? this is hardly concrete evidence.
@@GameSquad306Birdman says he's apolitical and makes fun of both sides a few times in his video, like the Critical Drinker one you were given as an example. ...do you listen to his videos? He's a Bernie bro like many people ended up being online who thinks that makes him a neutral apolitical person even though he heavily sways Progressive.

for around 20:00 i kinda dont think so, germany is pretty diverse for example. Dose that mean everyone is intigrated? No. There are big cultural communities that stay appart from each other. Take the bigest community, the turks, they still are not intigrated (3rd generation) on contrary, the opposide starts to happen. They kinda only marry in their cultural group and it seems frown upon to do otherwise... some even whant the sharia in germany or start voting for nazi like partys... *sigh* This is just an example and not true with every cultur and every individuum, but thats also kinda the reason why i wanna see people of my culture group or similar cultural progress in games and movies, or so exotic (culture and population wise) for me that i dont feal botherd (or maybe even thretend?) Also, i whant to identify with the protagonist, or antagonist. I can do that with any culture, if the story is good... and here it starts... most stuff in modern days feals like it just writen for inclusion... WH40 female Custodes or Space Marines? give me a break
Nah thing is there is a something missing that both sides aren't seeing the successful movies that did succeed if you notice none of them had anything that was purposefully pushing a narrative or message or replacing anyones favorite main protagonist. The main issue allot of people have is when they purposefully make characters for agenda or replace a game franchise main protagonist with opposite gender just to make a statement. Imagine instead if barby and kennit was Ben and Kathy. If they started to cast allot if black panther characters as different races it would be weird bro. Good movies are good period and allot of the times its because you can analyze it deeply because things arent pushed.
Are you okay? You are displaying the exact behavior called out in the video. I have not lost views, quite the contrary, I have played space marine with a literal video on this channel where I call it game of the year, I have a reaction video with a Chinese monk celebrating and criticizing Black myth wukong. Since you started to discuss this kind of stuff Jack, I feel I can add my 2 cents and it will be topical. I do not care how the terms are defined/redefined/misused this week since most of the terminal online and insanely loud people will let us know if we want to or not, and I continue to ignore them. Only three things matter to me and want them to be fixed. TL;DR: Stop discriminating in any form against people and finally switch to real meritocracy. And stop messing with History and existing works to "correct" them or bring them more into line with your worldviews. No sane person likes Historical revisionism, especially if they turn facts into fan fiction. And I just want good products, be it games, movies or shows, stop trying to ram your political views down my throat and focus on creating a good product. Skip the rest of the comment if you do not want to read my rambling. Firstly is are some professional and cultural behaviors, like company/production discriminating/racist towards people not fitting in their worldview for any reason. Yes I mean in the original meaning of the words, you can be discriminating or racist against white males too, despite what some insane people belief or spout. If so, then I personally would really like if we could go back to hiring the best person for the job and not maybe a way less skilled person but they fit the mandated checklist, be it mandated by law or by pressures from other sources, you get my point? And ofc stop harassing ppl obviously (not gonna happen, it's the internet), then at least stop over blowing everything. Disagreeing with someone is not Harassment as a example. Secondly stop messing with historical facts/franchises/cultures to anger the fans (like some companies said) or "correcting" it, this sometimes can go to insane lengths such as rewriting Wikipedia / Historical texts or previous works and turning them into basically bad fan fiction. And Third, I just want good products, be it games, movies or shows, stop trying to ram your political views down my throat and focus on creating a good product. I hope I've been as respectful and fair as possible with my opinion piece. Have a nice Day.
@18:51 The thing about critical drinker about Female Characters like he said before that his watchers seem to not get, is that he is fine with women being the protagonist. His problem is with the characters writing, cause most of the female protagonist we see today tends be overpowered from the start. We don't see them develop as a character and we don't see them make mistakes which is part of said development. It makes the audience be disconnected with the characters. Bad writing does not automatically translates to wokeness
I wouldn't have an issue with this argument if he brought that same energy to male mary sue characters which he never does. If a male is overpowered from the start, he has no problem with the writing. If its a woman, he hates it. Its pretty clear what his actual problem is and its rarely actually the writing.

@43:55 The big difference with the original movie Mulan and the new one, is that in the original Mulan that also Critical Drinker pointed out is that she worked hard into being what she is. She did a, once again a character development. Unlike the live action movie. Then add salt to the wound the actress has some spicy things, and also the typical CCP territory comes in with her and the movie issue.
That's not the point being made though, Th3Birdman was pointing out that they wanted women to be portrayed realistically during fights in stories that aren't realistic. Mulan is a fairy tale, and the movie is a wire-fu story with chi as a focus. Doesn't matter if the movie is bad, asking for realism is moving the goalposts.

“Woke” does not even have real meaning. People say something is woke simply if they don’t like it. And when people actually try to define it sensibly to explain why “video games suck now,” it is always on the basis of highly subjective beliefs or assertions that do not matter when it comes to game design or game quality. “Oh it is overly liberal gesturing, that is ‘wokeness.’” Although it may seem “absurd” to some people, most people do not buy or enjoy video games solely because the protagonist is a woman. Enough jokes aside, this is blatantly representative of a game industry that isn’t artificially inflating the wokeness in video games, but simply following basic trends that we as a more diverse society are displaying. Notably, these trends are marginal, as games that do fail to entertain, simply do so no matter the political messaging in the game. Many older games before this talk was even existent were developed by equally progressive people. This doesn’t mean problems don’t occur within the industry, far from it. It is just that those problems are not social problems but rather economic problems. As the gaming industry grows ever larger, more companies have become increasingly unethical towards consumers and their workers. Notoriously rushed games, buggy messes, money schemes, and poor treatment, they have it all. Luckily, we have many indie games and respectable developers with artistic control over their games to create many great games every year. With a lot of those games, people will be big babies about, even when there is no legitimate reason to be upset. Next time you hear someone cry about the wokeness in something try to figure out what they are even talking about and tell me how it is genuinely important to the game’s quality. You will either see people point to beloved games that have something progressive in it but no one cares, a terrible game that happens to be outwardly progressive unrelated to why it is bad, or a mid game that like with the rest of the pack is only representative of ourselves and not of any actual woke evil plan or whatever people believe. Everything is inherently political, as no human being is philosophically indifferent and if you think something is not political, it probably is, but you can’t see it.
It has, its just an umbrella term that has things like inserting minority characters for now reason, feminist propaganda, creating male characters that are evil ect. You're just talking to some anti-woke idiots but you yourself are a woke idiot.
Essaying. Woke has a meaning, the word was taken from the progressive lefties who used to call themselves SJW until we stole it from them to moke them. Stop coping man, saying everything is inherently politcal also makes no sense, that's a lame excuse to insert agenda into entertainment. How disingenuous can you be?
Critical Drinker is such an enigma to me. His content is bland and boring, his critiques are surface level, and his fake 'drunk voice' becomes grating very quickly on the ears. But he has a cultish fanbase that will literally take a bullet for him over the smallest criticisms. It's so obvious that most of what he does is just as fake as his annoying drunk voice, and yet these people seem to think he's the most important person in all of media analysis. It's truly bizarre behavior.
It completely fair to disagree with his criticism but his critiques area far from surface level. If that was the cases he wouldn't have as many subscribers and viewer that he does. Which are made of people who agree with or at least understand where he comes from.
Hey man. I love watching you and I have a lot of respect for you. But leaving all the political controversy aside, there's one point I strenuously disagree with. Normalization of failure is absolutely not acceptable if it happens as often as it does with Ubisoft games. Especially if the company is vocally against any feedback they're getting and are actively disparaging their core audience (here: "gamers"), thus stirring up more controversy. And ESPECIALLY if it can have a significant negative impact on people's livelihoods in the medium to long term (for example, due to the company getting bought out and restructured, which is what Tencent seems to be doing with Ubisoft). That's absolutely not how you run a business, much less a successful one. If your business strategy can have that much of a negative impact, you need to introspect, investigate, and re-evaluate your internals. I don't know about you or anyone else, but I draw a line at risking people's livelihoods.
5:45 imo, “inclusion and diversity” and “wokeness” are 2 different things. Don’t get me wrong, people use them interchangeably, and mix them around, but they are just wrong. Ghost of Yōtei is an example of inclusion. A female lead, which (going by suckerpunch’s past work) will be well written with their own motivations and morals of what they’re doing (of course we should wait until the game releases to pass judgement) . Star wars outlaws, another example of inclusion, the game wasn’t good, but that wasn’t for the sake of the MC being a female. A big signpost of “wokeness” to me is trying to include something such as LGBT or a culture of a minority without actually knowing about that culture and how they ingrain into greater society. It’s got better recently, but the first push of “inclusion” was just woke nonsense and not how any LGBT/POC would want to be represented. Of course, there are exceptions, as there was well written inclusion in this time, but the bad writing was eerily more apparent in this period. To sum up, diversity is good, wokeness is bad, there’s a difference between the two, and we can’t fully distinguish which it is until a game has fully released
Glad to see more political "normies" have an issue with this stuff. The internet was never the best place for discourse, but its pretty much impossible to talk about games without having these guys come in and whine about DEI, or whatever new buzz word boogieman they're using. Relevant mostly because if we take away the "independent" part, any media that follows a certain form could be called an "indie" even if it was in fact made using trillions of dollars. The point is that even if you are right and there are a lot of indie games/movies/content that do have a message, what makes them indie is the fact that they are mostly low-budget and crafted by smaller crews, not necessarily the themes they have or the atmosphere that reminds us of an indie project (generally a bit of a less professional feel, appears more cobbled together than polished to a sheen like a big project). @@battlefuta9953 The thing about veilguard is that I actually see where your coming from, being a long time Dragon Age fan myself. So yeah, I can definitely understand why some people might not like it. but to be honest, after putting my initial bias aside, I dont really mind the artstyle too much, because the game looks amazing regardless. The lighting, textures, and character models all look very well designed and crafted, they even did a good job on the hair physics which is always a bonus. Could they have picked a better artstyle to go with?, yeah probably, but does it look bad?, definitely not. The gameplay looks good aswell, mages for instance seem to have been fleshed out quite a lot compared to the other games, giving them a certain amount of depth and nuance that we never really had in previous games. So I'm definitely not against the choice of gameplay either, if there was one thing I'd have to criticize them for, it would be getting rid of squads, I feel like that was a mistake on their part, it gives you a certain amount of appreciation for each playable class and companion.

Crazy what good storytelling can do
Another example would be Blue eyed samurai. But you don't need a PR agency shaming customers, if you have good stuff.
Baldur's Gate 3, for a videogame example.
Big difference when you focus on making a good product instead of telling everyone "i'm this identity and everything about and around me is deeply tied to this identity i've chosen for myself"

Bro really came here to promote his video. Speaking of grifting...
You should react to the Dashblue video with the couple commenting on the AC shadows trailers.
Of course he's oblivious to the problems. He did a horrible (now deleted) video where he was defending female custodes, are you surprised?

People hated Baldurs Gate 3 for being "wOkE" before it released. They only stopped complaining about it being "wOkE" because it was successful.

I’m just looking forward to the new hot springs scenes :)
Unfortunately, these stereotypes happen too often, so "go woke go broke" is not a bad thing. At least for now.

These types of videos remind me that maybe the world isn't filled with just hate and anger. Great content.
Hey quick question, btw thank you Jack for a longer video.
Is Chess woke ?
@11:06 I got to disagree that DEI, BRIDGE, or whatever buzz word those people use does not directly impact the outcome or success of the game. Because in reality it actually does. These companies like Sweet baby Inc, had even expressed their hatred towards white people and gamers in general. They also revealed themselves that they are actually blackmailing or threatening companies with backlash from certain groups of people mostly in Twitter/X if the said company does not abide or do what they are "suggesting" for this companies to include in the game. But still respect your view in it.
I think he meant it as: There's not a single game with forced diversity that failed because of it. That there was always some other factors that made the game be disliked by the overall community.
@@LikeAFemaleDog yup that can be true also. Then again like the saying goes, "One bad apple can spoil the whole barrel"

Then on the other side you have people getting mad at the black myth wukong devs cause it’s not diverse enough for them. Cause their not mature enough to play a character that doesn’t look like them.
But I can see both views stuff like diversity and progressive elements can make a good product better. But it will make a bad product worse.

D.E.I and woke have lost all meaning these days. That’s why people usually don’t take anyone seriously when they have it plastered on the thumbnails.

@@GameSquad306Birdman says he's apolitical and makes fun of both sides a few times in his video, like the Critical Drinker one you were given as an example.

for around 20:00 i kinda dont think so, germany is pretty diverse for example. *sigh*
This is just an example and not true with every cultur and every individuum, but thats also kinda the reason why i wanna see people of my culture group or similar cultural progress in games and movies, or so exotic (culture and population wise) for me that i dont feal botherd (or maybe even thretend?)
Also, i whant to identify with the protagonist, or antagonist.

Woke and Gay= Bad
Blame the people on the left for doing that
“Woke” does not even have real meaning.

Can’t we just play games and enjoy them?, why does everything have to be political?.
Veilguard looks fun to me, and so does Shadows. As long as they focus on good storytelling and gameplay I don’t really care too much.
You still can but now the Twitter tumbler brainrot people are more prevalent in the gaming now.😅
My problem with Veilguard is exactly how the game looks, art style and its art direction. Gameplay also looks just way to simplified even compared to Inquisition
Have you never played a Bioware game if you think veilguard looks good?
@@battlefuta9953 How's the gameplay simplified? It literally has more depth than Inquisition because you aren't just standing around like an idjit and waiting for cooldowns. lmao
@@battlefuta9953 The thing about veilguard is that I actually see where your coming from, being a long time Dragon Age fan myself.
For one the artstyle threw me off at first because it looked more cartoonish compared to previous entries, which took a more serious tone. The gameplay is also much more different from the previous games, removing the more tactical squad based gameplay that were a staple of the previous games.
So I'm definitely not against the choice of gameplay either,
if there was one thing I'd have to criticize them for, it would be getting rid of squads, I feel like that was a mistake on their part, it gives you a certain amount of appreciation for each playable class and companion.
I can't wait for those guys to get so mad when Ghost of Yotei sells a bajillion copies.
Hold up young blood we still need to see gameplay and the story trailer.
@@ToxicVex267 If there is a game studio I still trust after all these years, it's Sucker Punch.
These guys would actually be really happy about it if the game was as well written and well done as Ghost of Tsushima.
look at AC Shadows vs Ghost of Yotei likes and dislikes ratio for the trailer and I don't even think people are saying yotei is dei its more the girl in twitter/X is the dei herself it reminds me of the genshin impact natlan issue where the VA hops on the train for genshin boycott
@@tominator048 if it's the same quality as Ghost of Tsushima with an interesting story character and gameplay you bet your butt I hope it succeeds.
Bridman talentedly exposed The Critical Drinker. That video is a must watch.
