I love how no one in the comments is trying to counter any of her arguments and instead are just saying "she's wrong! Full of hate! something something Russia, something something I did not watch the video, just saw that she's a communist and that's it". I am not even a communist but this isn't making your side look any better.

That is all too common, at least here in the USA. We have a deeply conservative, reactionary anti-intellectualism which abhors analysis, that negates any creative thinking.

Always good to hear a lifetime struggler reaching out to the new strugglers, adding very needed complexity to the simplification of social fights that end up with the same systemic opressions, like european nationalisms merely assimilating the rising interseccionality as yet another way reaching to the dispossessed without delivering.
Let's reach out to others struggling like ourselves people! Let's take care of each other! If crypto-coach-evangelists can do it, so can we!
Reformism is dead, all new fancy social laws are born with half the needed budget and it only decreases through time. Long live the Revolution, whenever it comes!

In an attempt to bring a little nuance to the comments section... I wish to enlighten those who may have a bias perception. One can read Marx as one of the foremost modern economic scholars and commentators on capitalism without automatically being a communist. In fact reading Marx is a must for anyone who really wants to understand capitalism and its deeper functionality. Marx in practice, under the power of unconscious individuals, can create an enormously centralized state infrastructure that is prime for authoritarianist regimes to take advantage of as we saw with Lenin and Stalin. So if you are a young Marxist watching this video, be cautioned and tread consciously. Capitalism on the other hand is, without argument, a byproduct of slavery. The first economic bonds were traded for flesh, that's a fact. Trading of these bonds created the foundations of Wall St. So I believe its high time we drop these archaic forms of social construction and build new models.

In tsarist Russia, until the end of the 19th century, peasants died from merciless exploitation and abuse of them. Women went crazy from hard work.
20% of Russian nobles exploited 80% of Russian peasants (white slaves, Russia had no colonies). Peasants (white slaves) were treated worse than slaves.
Peasants - slaves were exchanged for puppies of borzoi thoroughbred dogs, and peasant girls were forced to feed the puppies of these dogs with their breasts. The peasants (they are white slaves of tsarist Russia) had so much hard work and so little food that some of them were less than 160 centimeters tall, while their natural height was from 175 to 190 centimeters. But these peasants made a socialist revolution. . The development of history moves from: PRIMARY - COMMUNAL ORDER - (Revolution) - SLAVE ORDER - (revolution) - FEUDAL ORDER - (Revolution) - COMMUNIST ORDER.
"The essence of history is the movement towards the full well-being and free all-round development of all members of society." V. I. Lenin.

The very root of systemic racism in this county is rooted in the judicial system. This goes back to the incarcerations of black men in the south after the civil war. It was used to help them rebuild the torn south and subjugate black men into submission even after they were suppose to be free. This system of incarceration of people of color has grown into a deeply rooted conglomerate with some of the largest cooperations in America benefiting; such as Walmart, State Farm, Sears, etc. Until we systematically exam and dismantle and expose this system it will continue to recreate and morph itself. The Black Panthers were way ahead of their game and understood the political can private workings of the policing injustice in this country. As well as the hidden and coded dialect of white politicians to expand and empower it. Now 1 in 25 proletariat in the free world are incarcerated mostly people of color. Look at the track record of politicians since Regans and even exam the contribution of the Clintons

Building a wall by Trumps point of view was to enforce immigration laws that have always been in place that forces individuals to "Get in Line" and not cut. Imagine everyone that takes the time to study American History or what ever may be required to get in to our country legally and are suddenly told "You have to wait because we just had 1000 people cross the border illegally.
The wall is not a bad thing and suddenly when the capital puts up a wall around it is not a bad thing? I question anyone that would suddenly have an issue with a wall or fence to keep unwanted people or criminals out just because the name Trump is attached to it.

Civilization... like white supremacy? The peoples (nations in the Americas and around the globe) they genocided WERE civilized and lived in civilizations-- many of them for thousands of years with their own customs, traditions, economies, infrastructure, languages, etc. And now the descendents of the slavers and murderers work to maintain the system that keeps the descendants of the few who were not massacred years at the bottom of society. Does this bring "creativity and innovation?" Do oppressed people really have a chance to in a system that was built on treating them as sub-human? The governments fueled by capital from the nation's wealthiest framed multi-generational trauma and poverty as an individual's moral failure and everyone's personal responsibility. The individual with privilege might not believe that their ancestors were correct, but they many don't try to fundamentally change the harm they caused and make life better for those affected. No amount of legislation can fix the problems in capitalism when this is the way it's SUPPOSED to work. A country that built its wealth with the blood of others and continues to do it to this day internationally cannot say that it has a "few bad apples but it's still the best we have." That's the only way it can operate: if someone else is worse off from your success. A country with the capitalist model is not inspired by vague notions of "freedom" and "liberty," it is driven by profit. You can't make a system not do what it's made to do-- what it needs to do in order to survive. Reform it as you may, but you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

or how corporations could make money after paying and adding shifts if needed through something called volume . make a living wage that u can at least afford a new car every year & not be stuck with a used farted in old car & have to call it a new one. u have to speak the language of working class, to lower class, to college class to wall street class & work with the commodities class to make deflation on the american dollar while raising wages and providing a universal health care system. it can really be done economically but u got to grease the pockets of the voter to make it worth their time. not just leave um hanging with a dope head trying to explain a revolution & not know the economics of its country ...
that my friends is the power of the people. when u have them they can make the opposition an offer they can't refuse.
U don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows kid o..

No you're not. There are countless others like you who don't understand her sentiment. Western ideology is based on hate and division, just look at colonialization, and capitalism. The U.S even has one of their strongest weapons with "Divide and Conquer". People like Angela Davis, Chairman Fred Hampton, and Malcolm X, have always spoken about unity (given Malcolm spoke about unity for everybody later in his life) and it's a capitalistic and individualistic mindset that keep you from understanding what she's truly saying.

17:00 What she says is nonsense. For example, right now in Russia there are no different races, but whites exploit whites. Throughout the history of the Russian Empire, whites exploited whites. There have been no black slaves here. There were white slaves and serfs. What does racism have to do with capitalism? Capital doesn't care about your orientation, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, etc. All it cares about is extracting surplus value from you. And it will extract it from any member of society. And if she then says that blacks can't exploit blacks, then let her take a good look at Africa, where that is exactly what is happening.

    • @aaronthomas2292
      @aaronthomas2292 ปีที่แล้ว +3

To understand what she is talking about specifically it is in the book “capitalism and slavery” by Eric Williams (“How Europe underdeveloped Africa” by Walter Rodney also talks about this). While capitalism can of course exist while same race of people exploit each other, the emergence of capitalism as a system on a global scale only came about because of the ability (of Western Europe) to extract vast amounts of wealth from Africa and later the rest through capitalist imperialism. That core of racism that came from the pre capitalist accumulation of wealth, now is at the core of capital. Even if certain groups get accepted, capitalism will always seek to divide. To move forward we must continue to extend our science rather than being dogmatic.

So this is just a white woman who doesnt want to really explore or even give validation to the very real tools that in order to have capitalism, global capitalism at that, there must be winners and losers and in homogenous countries this can be done via classism, but on a global turf, there is racism, xenophobia, school to prison pipelines, slavery, sex slavery, etc. Just because one slavic region had exploitation via its classism/prejudice toward differing religions or regions etc, doesnt negate that most of the MOST PROFITABLE empires, British/Spanish/Portugese did not use slaves to not only make its fortune in brown and black countries using them as slaves adn destabilising their political regimes and exploiting their labour and exports....for centuries from colonies to "allies" you seem to not really know alot about the after effects of imperialism and its brute to power methods. How when those countries no longer have occupations of the imperialist oligarchs present, the same people will use those methods to continue to subjugate while it still continues to honor its evil predecessor. Its all in its image. A wonderful American Harvard professor Caroline Elkins actually discusses this. And if you get this far in message to you/ I suggest you listen to her NPR interview before you come on here and start discussing things you dont have an inkling over.

Except for her physical appearance (she was young and beautiful back in the day) some things never change. She was wrong about Capitalism then and she is still wrong about it in this era. Her speeches have always been a mix of anti-Capitalism, racism and revolution. She didn't realize it back in the day and she apparently still doesn't realize that Capitalism is by far the superior socio-economic system. And that racism is not a by-product of Capitalism but of a hatefulness in the human heart. Given that, it would make no difference which socio-economic order prevails (Capitalism, Socialism or Communism) people will still hate each other for one reason or another. And as for the revolution, she now admits that she was wrong about it as a young woman. The only thing that she has left is to continue to speak out against Capitalism. It's the only thing that works for her. It's the only thing that can keep her relevant. It's the only thing that she can "sell". It's the only thing that some people will "buy". She gets paid for her speeches and her books on the subject. This basically makes her a Capitalist.

Oh @Barry I enjoyed reading your piece. I can understand your position on capitalism as the only fair systems of wealth redistribution but I disagree with your assertion that it's the only one there is. When you say so, it then limits future generation's imagination. May be limiting ourselves and fixing eyes on only the C words we clog our imagination of reality beyond our current comprehension. The universe is wider and vast and so much of it isn't known. Let's keep thinking, critiquing and imagining a better system esp for the most marginalized.
Because capitalism isn't fair too as we've seen in the recent past. We also know it can be corrupted by the flaws of humanity esp those with power or those that have benefited from old historical injustices like racism, colonialism etc. Even with capitalism the world isn't fair, or less corrupt.
      Let's keep talking.

@@dang9313 Greetings from New York City. I appreciate your reply. However, your reply is way off the mark. I DID NOT assert NOR did I say that Capitalism is the "only fair system of wealth distribution" as you say. I DID NOT say that Capitalism is the only system there is. I stated very plainly and very clearly that "Capitalism is by far the superior socio-economic system." And so far, human history has proven my statement to be more or less correct. But to be very clear, I say Capitalism is superior. I DO NOT say that it is perfect. I DO NOT say that it is fair. Therefore, how could I "limit future generation's imagination" as you put it? As I have stated, your reply is appreciated... but it is not entirely relevant to my comment. The point of my comment is simple and clear. And if it wasn't clear, I'll explain again in another way: Angela Davis has spent her adult life speaking out against the Capitalist system. Which of course she has a right to do. On the other hand, she has also profited from the very Capitalist system that she has been complaining about for so long. I've heard many people over the years complain and whine about Capitalism. But they don't seem to have a problem with making and spending "Capitalism's money."
And as for her old revolutionary ideals and her old desire to topple or overthrow Capitalism; Ms. Davis admits in her speech that she was wrong about the "revolution". She used to say in the 1960's and 70's that she was a revolutionary... as did many others. So what happened over the years? I'll tell you what happened! These folks got older. They got wiser. They got with the program. And they started making some money in the process. Boy oh boy! Don't you just love Capitalism!? Now, either Ms. Davis doesn't realize that Capitalism is indeed superior to the other socio-economic systems of the world (at this moment in human history... not in future generations) or she's been running a nice little racket. Either way, she has been profiting from the Capitalist system. God Bless America.

@@barryharry2575 thank you for your respectful response. Even in disagreement you remained civil, I really appreciate.
I have followed Ms. Davis for some years esp her struggle for BIPOC emancipation and of course the challenges she encountered over the years with the counter forces. However, I take it from you that since she's now benefiting from the ideology she critiqued, she shouldn't say a word against it. I find that unfair. In your country many abolishonists fought the a system which had made them so rich and powerful when majority were indifferent. We celebrate them till today that's the complexity of human consciousness.
But surely, must we all only accept a system that give so much to mostly the top 1% and and the rest like me have to struggle at margins of existence to craft a living!! Surely we have to reimagine something better. We don't have to get there now, but am confident we shall one day. Of course am not for a radical revolutionary approach looking at dismantling everything we enjoyed but an evolutionary process that enables perfection a step at a time is possible and this can only be achieved with dialogue with all without the exclusion of anyone.
      Enjoy your evening.
