holy hell, this is honestly the cleanest and most beautiful mettaton chestplate i've seen to date. definitely going to be referring to this tutorial in the future when cosplaying him!
Wow, that's awesome! I've been frantically looking around for something to use for my Mettaton Halloween costume... It's incredibly hard to find anything to use as a chest plate. This is a life saver.
Harley Thomas wait, what? how would an AMAB person cosplaying a male character not work out well? if anything, mettaton presents extremely androgynously, and anyone can cosplay as him effectively
Wow, this looks really good! I'm gonna cosplay Mettaton at a party and freak out my friends, and this video will really help me with the cosplay, Thanks!
Your mettaton is so awesome, giving me serious inspiration seeing as he’s a cosplay I’ve been dwelling on doing for a while. This tutorial should come in handy :))
Thank you! I currently don't have a dedicated website, but I am on Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. I will probably make a site soon though as I'm currently starting to take on commissions! :) I'll be sure to make a video about it as soon as I have a site and can take on more commissions! :D
Thank yu so much for listing the materials. Me and a bunch of friends are cosplaying for a massive con next year as a group and seeing your tutorial makes me a lot less nervous in my position as being voted for Mett. First time being super ambitious and making a costume of this proportions. (Mable Pines cosplay was child's play in comparison. I'm going to end up using your method for the chest plate for sure. So thanks again for the list of material and very detailed instruction video on how to craft it.
+Jessy J No problem! It always makes me happy to hear my tutorials are helpful 😁 Best of luck with your Mettaton cosplay, I'm sure you'll have a great time!
:D I'm glad to help! Unfortunately I didn't record the making process for the rest of the costume :( but there are progress photos over on my Facebook and Instagram which might help, and I'll happily answer questions about how I did it! (I might even record a tutorial video for the other parts if there's enough people who want it and I have the time 😅)
Thank you so much, I will use this precious tutoriel to do my chestplate :) on the front it will be pink (fortunatly I found this EXACTLY same shade of metallic pink for the fabric so I was so happy) but the backside will be black but it is my personnal touch :) It is a good idea to put the black fabric on the EVA foam for shoulders, I think that I will do the same...Thank you again darling ! (Sorry for my English, I am french !)
+Ringo [Fire Dawn] I'm glad I could help! And that sounds really cool - I love how each cosplayer will put their own spin on a character 😁 best of luck with your cosplay! (And your English is great!)
oh my, I am so glad you answered To me ! Honnestly I began to follow the tutoriel of IhasCupquake but for me your tutoriel for the chestplate is better, because the form is really thin and so, It fits To Mettaton. And thank you for the compliments ! I will try to show you when I finish !
I know you're planning to do more tutorials in the future, but could you briefly explain how you did your boots and the neck portion of your MTT cosplay (is the neck paint or more lycra)? I haven't been been able to find metallic pink boots, which is what led me to your channel in the first place.
+↬♣ Elys 【・ヘ・?】 I'll try my best! My neck is painted black. For the boots: first I used the same pink fabric I used for the chestpiece to make shoe covers. I didn't have an overlocker/serger at the time, so you can do it with a regular sewing machine if you have the patience! Then I used EVA foam and the fabric to make a front and back panel for the upper portion of the boot, using the same technique as in this video. I'd suggest shaping them with a heat gun so they're molded to your leg. I then added elastic straps with Velcro fastenings, at the top and bottom of each side, so they can be removed and put on easily. I hope that makes sense! :)
Thank you for the tutorial! :3 I'm going to make this too so this is really helpful. Btw Jackpot is one of my favorite Block-B Songs ^^ It's great to find cosplayers who like KPop too haha :D
Two questions. One, what is that material you used to cover the EVA foam? And two, how did you get the sizing right? Did you do some measuring or did it by eye? Also thank you for this tutorial, the whole thing looks absolutely fabulous!!
Thank you so much! :) I have a full list of materials in the description, but I used metallic four-way stretch fabric to cover the EVA. It's the sort of fabric used for dance wear - if it's four-way stretch you can stretch it in all directions, which makes it better suited for covering a shape like this! :) And I did cut the fabric by eye, I gave myself a lot of excess (I still used less than a metre of each fabric over my whole cosplay) so there was plenty to mess around with as it was my first go. Hope that helps, and thanks again! :)
Hey! Love the tutorial. I'm even trying to follow along as best I can cuz I'm working on my Mettaton cosplay as well and I wanted to ask you something. How did you do the gluing down of the fabric for the shoulder pieces? Did you do that whilst bent while trying to glue the fabric down or did you flatten them out then glued down the fabric? I'd love to know.
Hi there! :) I shaped the shoulder pads with heat, then covered them with the fabric and finally attached them to the rest of the chest plate! I hope that helps; I would have shown the whole process but my footage wasn't any good 😅
Perfect video, I've been trying to look for some good videos to reference when I go to Comic Con in a couple of months and you have made my life so much more simple by making this look so easy! Thank you so much and I will be referring to this video soon enough. Just one question, however, what are the list of tools and items you used to make this?
Thank you! It was one of my first tutorials so I'm glad it holds up :) I did make the boots, in a similar fashion to the chest plate so they'd look robotic. Two lycra-covered EVA foam plates with Velcro fastenings, and then standard Lycra boot covers for the high heels x there should be pictures somewhere on my Instagram if you want to take a look!
Hey, i wanted to ask where did you find the materials. Also can you put the links if you can (i cant find some of the materials)? Btw thanks for the tutorial, its the one i like the most :)
Thanks for the awesome tutorial!! I had two quick questions. What was the thickness of the EVA foam that you used? and also what was the measurement on the base of the triangle for the shoulder piece?
Thank you! ☺️ I think the foam was about 1cm thick, but you could use a thinner foam! I’d say anything in the 0.5cm-1cm range would work fine. Good luck with your cosplay! 💜
That fine ? Incredible ! I would have taken 2-3 cm for the soulders and 5 cm for the chest ! But I'm not good with estimations. ^^ The result is resistant enough with 1 cm ?
I'm sorry to ask because it's probably a very stupid question, but how did you get the wrinkles out at the bottom where the little edges are on the front chest plate
Everything But Normal Not a stupid question at all! :) That was the hardest part of covering the pieces - I find when I'm doing it that I might have to unstick the first side I stuck down, and redo it in smaller sections. By stretching it farther and at different angles, you can more or less eliminate any wrinkles from the front of each piece. I hope that makes sense!!
Everything But Normal Also, I am actually planning to remake my chestplate without those little corners on the front piece - if you're finding those especially difficult, I'd suggest just making it round like the back piece because it still looks great that way!
+Mettaton neo Thanks ☺️ I spent less than £40 on my chest piece, and those materials crossed over to be used on the boots and stuff as well, so you should be able to make it within your budget!
How did you manage to cool melt glue the darts/notches in stiff, thick EVA foam without heating the pieces to bend them first? It didn't work when I tried that.
MarissaOfUnderground I admit, it took a couple of goes to get the second dart to stay in place, but I did manage it! I have since gotten a heat gun which has made it way easier - I'm going to film an updated tutorial to add on to this one, because I have learnt a lot since my first chestplate!
Voyager Costume Thanks! I gotta say, I also learned a lot when working on mine - I experimented with test pieces and figured out how to best make it work. For the final pieces for the chest and back plate, I bent them a little into shape with the heat gun, and then glued the darts. The darts also need to be long enough, otherwise it may not work, which was also part of my problem. Cool melt didn't work for me, either, but I had a hot glue gun that did the job just right! Thank you for your feedback!
+snowysnowwish I'm really starting to get into a few Kpop groups, but I can't seem to find my way into the fandom! 😅 When I do I might consider a Kpop cosplay 😃
Voyager Costume ahh the fandom :( tbh the good ones are hard to find. but if you'd like to you can always scream and yell about them with me! what groups do you like?
yes good choices! Block B is coming to the Netherlands and i was planning on going but unfortunately it;s way too expensive. Apink is one of my favorites! who's your bias?
+snowysnowwish Ahh yeah, they're playing in London too and I'm really debating whether I can afford a ticket cos it's so expensive 😭 Apink are so good! I don't have any biases yet 😰 I need to find out more about the members, mostly I've just been binge-listening on Spotify haha!
Yes! Just unfasten the Velcro at the sides, and then pull it up over your head :) it makes it really quick to change into or out of, especially at a convention.
BackFireGaming I used a metallic black leotard underneath as a base, but you could use a plain one too depending on your preference! And I want to do a tutorial for the boots as well in the future, so watch this space - but you can find more general boot cover tutorials online that might help you :)
Voyager Costume Thank you!! I appreciate it! I was just asking because the whole chest piece in general is turning out to be a bit expensive, and I was trying to lower the cost a bit. Thank you anyways!
Sir L I bought it on eBay! If you get a big roll rather than the small squares you can cut everything out and have a ton to spare for other projects! :)
+Donny's Channel You have a few options! There's tutorials online for making your own mannequin with some cheap materials like cling film and duct tape; however, if you don't want to do that you can cut the pieces and hold them up against yourself in front of a mirror. It might take a little more time, and you obviously can't pin them or cut the mm against yourself, but you'll be able to make the pattern pieces that way no problem!
Help. I am a thirty-six year old mom and I am trying to assist my twelve year old in making a Mettaton cosplay, but I have no idea why you are holding an original Mettaton body with a chainsaw on the end. LOL. Can you tell me about this. Is it in the game?
+Jamiesa Hillman Hi there! :) Mettaton doesn't have that chainsaw in the game - it's a prop I designed and made for one of my short films, and it was just a fun addition to the costume for convention photos. (By the way, I think it's lovely that you're helping your child to make their cosplay! My dad used to help me with my costumes when I was that age :D if there's anything else I can help with, please let me know!)
I can't say off the top of my head, but I am open for small commissions right now so if you're UK based and really interested then email me at voyagercostume@outlook.com or message me on my Facebook page and I can calculate it for you! :)
I'm afraid as the foam and fabrics were all eBay purchases, I couldn't tell you who to buy them from off the top of my head. But they are listed on there in abundance! :)
this was a great tu-toriel!
haha pun
holy hell, this is honestly the cleanest and most beautiful mettaton chestplate i've seen to date. definitely going to be referring to this tutorial in the future when cosplaying him!

Wow, that's awesome! I've been frantically looking around for something to use for my Mettaton Halloween costume... It's incredibly hard to find anything to use as a chest plate. This is a life saver.
It's really impressive, that you do all of this by yourself!!
PencilDrawings Thank you very much! :)

Thank you! I'm being Mettaton for Halloween so this helps!👌
Me too
At least there aren’t any men here cosplaying as him. That would be a disaster
Harley Thomas wait, what? how would an AMAB person cosplaying a male character not work out well? if anything, mettaton presents extremely androgynously, and anyone can cosplay as him effectively

This is cool! You should make a website dedicated to costumes like this, I need a Papyrus one, so I'd recommend that one. ❤👌
Thank you! I currently don't have a dedicated website, but I am on Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. I will probably make a site soon though as I'm currently starting to take on commissions! :) I'll be sure to make a video about it as soon as I have a site and can take on more commissions! :D

I told my mom i wanted to be mettaton for halloween, and she immediately says "are you gay"... mom, no..
SylveonReviews same lol
Now i'm happy of being a girl and don't having those problems lol
WatermelonKellen oh no 😂
It doesn’t matter what gender you are. METTATON LOOKS FABULOUS ON BOTH.
Perfect video, I've been trying to look for some good videos to reference when I go to Comic Con in a couple of months and you have made my life so much more simple by making this look so easy! Thank you so much and I will be referring to this video soon enough. Just one question, however, what are the list of tools and items you used to make this?
Thank you! I'm glad to help. You can find the list of everything I used in the description of this video :) Good luck with your make!
This is a really well put together and detailed tutorial! Quick question, did you also make the boots? Thanks! x
Jackpot! 💖😍🐝
I love this channel and she should make a mae nitw
Hey, i wanted to ask where did you find the materials. Also can you put the links if you can (i cant find some of the materials)? Btw thanks for the tutorial, its the one i like the most :)
mettaton mode.....
yes darling, you have it perfect thats me darling and stay determine
real me mode.......
i amuse myself somtimes lol
Thanks for the awesome tutorial!! I had two quick questions. What was the thickness of the EVA foam that you used? and also what was the measurement on the base of the triangle for the shoulder piece?
The EVA foam is ~6mm thick, and the base of the shoulder pad triangle is 42cm! :)
This is amazing!! What is the material you used for his arms called?
About how long did it take you to make this? It's very well done and I would love to make it myself!
Thank you! The whole process took about 8 hours, including making all the pattern pieces :) good luck with your own! :D
i loveeee this video
Its beautiful😅
Thank you! :D
I remember theese videos
Where did you get your EVA foam from? I'm making a mettaton cosplay as well
Hello ! Your job is wonderful and will inspire me for my cosplay project. :) How thick is the foam you use ?
^^ The result is resistant enough with 1 cm ?
where did you get the fabric :) also i subcribed :)
Thanks for subscribing! I got the fabric from eBay :)
Thanks I'll go look now :) ~
oh yes
Me: *tries it on my own without a tutorial*
Also me: *cuts thumb with a knife* AAAAAA-
Very FABULOUS btw how much did this cost to make this I'm on a budget of 60$
+Mettaton neo Thanks ☺️ I spent less than £40 on my chest piece, and those materials crossed over to be used on the boots and stuff as well, so you should be able to make it within your budget!
Hi! I was wondering where I can get the rest of the costume
I like turtle
I like Voyager Costume
ohhhhhhhh yessssssss
OHHHHHHH YEEEEESSDS
...yeah... just going to wait until they start making Mettaton cosplays/costumes for sale, cause im only 3 minutes in and im gonna nope on out of here
and the boots and the rest of the cosplay except for the bib?
How did you manage to cool melt glue the darts/notches in stiff, thick EVA foam without heating the pieces to bend them first?
It didn't work when I tried that.

ohmygod you like Kpop as well.
you should do a Kpop cosplay!
+snowysnowwish Aw, thank you! The groups I really like right now are Block B and Apink 😃
yes good choices! Block B is coming to the Netherlands and i was planning on going but unfortunately it;s way too expensive. Apink is one of my favorites! who's your bias?

Do you have a pattern for the chest pattern I Could print out D:
Does the chest piece + shoulders just slip up and over your head to take it off?
Yes! Just unfasten the Velcro at the sides, and then pull it up over your head :) it makes it really quick to change into or out of, especially at a convention.
is the shirt under just straight up black?
also, how do you do the boots?
BackFireGaming I used a metallic black leotard underneath as a base, but you could use a plain one too depending on your preference! And I want to do a tutorial for the boots as well in the future, so watch this space - but you can find more general boot cover tutorials online that might help you :)
How did you do the arms?
this is so wonderful darling, thank-you! I was wondering if u wetter a girl or boy though...
Glad the video could help!
I'm agender, so I'm not a boy or a girl :)
Oh, cool! Mad respect bro! 💖 U r my hero, u r like the only TH-camr that truly brings me joy and makes me happy! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Oh gosh, that's very sweet of you! I'll try my best to keep making good videos! ☺️
Yay!!!!!!! 😻🙌
Could you use craft foam instead of EVA foam or will just EVA foam work??
+Shae The Bean Craft foam is very thin normally, so I would say only use foam that's 5mm or thicker. Otherwise I don't think it'll be solid enough!
Voyager Costume Thank you!! I appreciate it! I was just asking because the whole chest piece in general is turning out to be a bit expensive, and I was trying to lower the cost a bit. Thank you anyways!
+Shae The Bean No worries! You can find rolls of EVA foam relatively cheap on eBay, and you'll have plenty left for future projects :)
Were did you buy the Eva foam ? And I can use a yoga Eva mat to make it?
I bought it on eBay :) and I think an EVA yoga mat would be fine, as long as it isn't too thin!
Okay! Thank you
How thick is the EVA Foam??
Lauren Ctrain About 6mm!
Where did you buy you EVA foam from?
Sir L I bought it on eBay! If you get a big roll rather than the small squares you can cut everything out and have a ton to spare for other projects! :)
Voyager Costume thank you so much!
Where can you find EVA foam?
MariBerry I bought mine on eBay! :)
Okay, thank you!
I don't have a manaqin to do it what can I do
+Donny's Channel You have a few options!
