I just grind to insanity and back to get early weapons as high as possible. Usually like 9 or more levels before I move on, and usually commit to synthesizing the weapon itself to go into one of my main ones once it has gone through its 5th evolution. Using all that abs and just dumping them in the stats I want for my main

I'm in Sindain just before the fish level, but I just learned about this leveling method. I have foolishly been spending my synth points on my main weapon. Should I start anew with a new wrench? Should I start a new game?

I did the same thing but don't worry for now, you can push on in the game fine, later on you can always synthesise the weapon and slap it on a new one. Also later on it becomes a lot easier to level up and build up new weapons

In my opinion, it's better to focus on using your synthesis points on your main weapon itself rather than spectrumizing a weapon and using that to increase your stats early on. The reason is because you don't need as many stats to build up a weapon early on, nor do you need to get them as high. As a result, generally speaking, I won't start concentrating on spectrumizing weapons until chapter 3, since in the first 2 chapters, you literally only need a few levels gained to evolve your weapons (assuming you have the right items to use on them). As an example: in my current playthrough, when I built up to the drill wrench in chapter 1, I was able to evolve the battle wrench into the "true" battle wrench, then since I already had the right stats for everything else but attack, I was able to immediately turn it into a drill wrench afterwards.
...........With that in mind, I have seen it suggested that until you reach chapter 5, the best weapon to spectrumize is a true battle wrench that you got to +5, which I honestly think is dumb. Sure, it's efficient, but only in that it takes very little effort to get it that far (you only need to increase attack for that build up to occur, which you get every level), and as a result, you can have a wrench ready to go within minutes easily, and all you need is to increase it's stats using the accumulated points. However, this quickly falls apart when you recall that a spectrumized weapon gives 60% of it's total stats, and a true battle wrench maxs out at 20 attack and 19 on everything else, so you're only gaining about 10 (maybe 11) points to each stat you increase, and when you get 4 synthesis points each level (only the weapons you can build up to from chapter 6 onwards get more), this means that, provided you're using crystals to increase stats, you can get 12 in a single stat. The reason why I don't like this method is because ideally, if you're spectrumizing a weapon, you should be doing it for one of two main reasons:
      1) To increase your stats more than you would be able to by spending the SP on crystals. This means that if you're only focusing on one or two stats, if you don't need to get them as high, you're better off not using a weapon to do so, which the true battle wrench does not do any better at.
      2) If you want a particular ability on your weapon, using one that has it is generally easier than trying to find those rare and elusive coins to use instead, while also offering the benefits of raising your weapon's stats as well.
      I hope this helps!

So only one question. Is there anything wrong with "leveling up a weapon to 10" before doing "build up?" I only ask because I was playing DC1 and absolutely, positively couldn't beat Goro at the duel so I flat up gave up! 😡🤬
But in DC1 I leveled up a crystal sword to 10, synthed it and was holding the "synth sphere" and trading it between weapons. So anyways, wouldn't leveling up your weapon further make give it more SP and make it easier AFTER you build it up?
I JUST started playing DC2, as in I'm only on the third "sewer floor" soooooo yeeeeeah.....I'm still at the VERY beginning! 😆

As a new Dark Cloud player, this "guide" was not very helpful. Still working through the Waterway and having a blast. To me, this looked like mainly gameplay with some commentary. Trying to re-watch, I don't see anything "how-to" related. I don't see any "why" explained.
I understand the basics as explained in-game (up to my point of progression), but maybe I am moving at the wrong pace. I've spent a majority of my time playing around with the camera and invention mechanic (after learning I missed a picture of the elephant) and found it very taxing.
I haven't beaten the spider-clown-boss-thing (I let it kill me because I was afraid beating it would lock me out of the earlier floors, earning medals, etc.), but did upgrade to a True Battle Wrench. It's possible I may have done so prematurely? I'm trying to avoid spoilers and meta-gaming, I just want to ensure I have accurate information as I progress in the game.
Anyways, this video was the first thing that popped up while searching "dark cloud 2 beginner guide". If anyone has other reference videos with more explanation and less gameplay so I can listen during work breaks please comment below!
I'll be coming this channel's videos for more information in the meantime.
