I was curious about this phenomenon a couple years back and I also came to the same conclusion that as long as you feel joy in connecting to the music that is what's important. 440 is just convenient really. Your hilarious man 😂, I love these videos I feel like we're all just hanging out. Ordered a couple flutes this morning my lungs are excited!
Love the silliness!! I've always thought, "If it sounds good, great. If it doesn't work, chances are the player has done something incorrectly." Same with computers, actually. None of my flutes are "tuned", but my dogs don't howl while I play, and the neighbors haven't complained, so it must not be too bad.
Well put Charlie! Sometimes I accidentally make flutes that are tuned to themselves, that end up “432”. I appreciate the thought put into this dispelling some of those beliefs. I think if people connect with it, great, but the feeling elicited is just our ears perception of a slightly lower pitch. Also hilarious ending 🎶🔑
Hey Charlie, your video is hilarious! Really, I enjoyed speaking with you this past Friday about my flute order and am both excited for it to get here, and, excited to be able to share a past memory with you and Chief Charles, "Grey Wolf", Ellis from Pensacola, Fl.
Hi Charlie. Thanks for doing this video. I am always seeing this debate being bandied about online. I can appreciate some music done in that tuning, but I don't see how it can be objectively viewed as better. just different. Apparently there will be world peace, man, when everyone just embraces 432. dig it!
It is no problem my friend, I usually tell people to do what it is that keeps them inspired. Look at it this way, you're one of the last lucky people to get in 432!😃
I, too, have never understood the recent Cult of A=432 Hz. The note to which A is tuned is arbitrary: it could be tuned to any note. Furthermore, if A=432 Hz, then by definition every note other than the A below middle-C is NOT at 432 Hz. Mr. Mato-Toyela said that in the video and is completely correct. (The Beatles' "Ticket to Ride", The Lovin' Spoonful's "Do You Believe in Magic", and The Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work", are all tuned to A=432 Hz. To play along with my guitar, I have to tune down to 432. It doesn't sound any better and no special magic happens. It's just a pain for me to tune down my guitar.)
I believe it is simply mankind's experimentation with "trying to find their maker" and unfortunately a vast many people believe it has already written in stone.
Right, that was the first thing I thought. The only problem with that is none of the other frequencies of those notes fall in line with any other Schumann frequencies. The worst thing is the math is completely off. 432hz is based on 7.8 hz (loosely). The problem with that is that if you go six octaves north of 7.8hz, it's actually 422hz and the way that people come up with 432hz was based on rounding 7.8 up to 8. To us giants on this human realm, .2hz may not seem like a big distance but you can see the difference when you go six octaves north. Before the internet erased it, I had discovered that 432hz was an old Venetian tuning that no one agreed on. It was at a time that tuning frequencies were grabbed out of hats and eventually we wound up with the one we got now.
actually speakin of buying a flute, im interested in getting my first one and i kinda wanna buy a historically authentic one, so would that be a "traditionally tuned" F# flute?
@@ItsAllGoodGames no, actually traditionally tuned is not to a specific scale in historically native american flutes were never in as low a key as F sharp. I do have videos on this if you're interested.
@@BlueBearFlutes Oh i just realized i contradicted myself, i did watch your traditional tuning video lol but in your video testing out the different keys you did say that F# was more historically correct versus say the Bass Flutes.
Great (and sillyAF) video my friend - not judging anyone on the many ways we maintain our sanity, but very good information about resonant frequency. Reminds me of the solid body guitar tonewood argument. Self-correcting science#1 !
Well brother, it seems that people got the 432 hz have been a pain in the ass to you. Sorry for that, I feel your frustration and got your humor. I actually got a 432 tuned flute, little backpack flute from you. I don't really care if it is in 432, never checked, but I absolutely love it. Sounds great and practice all the time. One day brother I will be slaying this here flute:)! Peace and compassion. And don't worry about the people acting to be all spiritual as a fad, but really have no idea about spirit; shine your light homie. Thanks for the flute and love to your nation!
Hahhaha, loved the skit 😂😂 Your viewpoints about the history of music, Native American culture and flutes are very realistic and makes *complete* sense. Unfortunately, it seems that in peoples’ endeavors to improve music & music theory, sometimes someone comes up with a misguided concept that they have decided to be the “correct” way (aka what sounds good to THEM) and then they hold fast to it, preaching it as Truth. Then follow all the hoards of self-righteous folk who take heed to it without question... Lol. Anyway thanks, you’ve helped me to understand this 432Hz obsession going around.
Wonderful video. Thank you. I bumped into the 432 Hz thing and wooden flutes for that matter while researching implications of 528 Hz, the oft touted Love vibration. I'm a civil engineer by profession, so tend to get caught up in numbers, though am not into numerology, gematria, and so forth - though also don't dispute possible relevance or significance . Clearly our universe(s) are mathematical and geometric in nature so there's that but quantum mechanics suggests the material world (body), thought/emotion/ego world, and spirit (soul) world are all spiritual in nature, likely existing in phased resonance - harmonious or not. I seriously doubt our Creator designed an unimaginably complex and wonderful world in which His creations could only be healthy vibrating at a single frequency. This would deny free will among other things. I love your philosophy of enjoying music and life. Because the Dark Side twists things does not mean we are obligated to twist with it. I'm going to select a flute I think I'll like, then enjoy it. Thanks again for your thoughts, Sir.
I am new to native american flutes. Like a typical newbie, I bought a beautiful piece of furniture tuned to 432. It sounds flat to my ear. Can a 432 mhz flute be tuned to 440 mhz?
Yeah, Charlie has many good videos on flute making you can use to make the instrument sharper. Basically you'll have to either shorten the flute length by taking material off the end you don't put your mouth on OR if it has a hole near that end that is not a finger hole you need to widen that hole. This will change the note that is played when you cover all the finger holes. From there you can sharpen each finger hole by widening the hole bit by bit. When I got my first locally made flute I accidentally broke it, and learned how to make a whole new flute using the videos on this channel then was able to fix it easily.
Similar to the 432 hz mythology, I've had people tell me that producing and mastering compositions at 36 khz is 'vastly superior' to 44.1 and above. It's not. The music-related superstitions seem to be motivated by a desire to find a way around learning and perfecting fundamentals. Instead, they have stumbled upon a secret formula that allows them to shortcut years of effort.
Originally, when native people had a piercing it was considered to be a sacrifice. My sacrifice is for the same reason that my grandmother and her mother and her grandfather and grandmother all had their noses pierced as well. I probably should do a video about this since so many people do not understand.

One can clearly see via cymatics that 432Hz takes a very natural and organic form vs. 440Hz. This can be done using water via cymatics and are body is made up of quite a bit of water. I know personally listening to and playing instruments in 432Hz and other specific frequencies I can notice a positive difference vs. 440Hz in how the vibrations effect my body mentally and physically. Those old world Tartarian Empire structures the Jesuits took over and now call "churches" didn't have those awesome acoustics and huge organs for nothing.
Thank you for posting this. 🙂 I was hoping to get more people sharing their wholehearted beliefs about the 432 idea as well as those of us who do not believe in it. One thing I would like to mention is that only half of the minor pentatonic scales actually contain the note A (the 432 note). It's rather unfortunate however most people believe that receiving an instrument tuned to 432 is going to make any difference, when in reality they would have to choose one of six different scales to play it in and then they would only be able to play that one note in 432! Thanks again for posting, I appreciate your Insight.
