Sad to see this much hate towards Barnes despite the few comments. I love having him ref a game as at least he does seem unbiased towards french teams unlike a lot of blokes I need not to name! Thankfully a few of the newer refs seem quite decent too!
I think people forget how young Barnes was when he started out. My opinion of him has changed over time and I think that he is now a much better ref than we was 5-7 years ago.
International rugby isn’t the type of place to start improving. Unsurprisingly, if a ref decides a game, teams don’t think that “the referee needs time to improve” is a valid excuse.
@@stevenmcalister826 any sort of level is a good place to improve. most high-level umpires/referees can think of at least 1 thing to improve on after the game. even if it is something small.
@@rhyangriffiths5398 If you’re refereeing internationally, players and fans should expect that you’re the best of the best officials, and that’s perfectly reasonable. If you’re still improving, do that somewhere else, because your short comings as a referee will affect people’s livelihoods at that level.
He's English Not afraid to bin captains or popular players Gets accused of being bias by people who don't understand 50/50 decisions will go against the team giving the ref the hardest time.
As a Welshman .. I have at times , despised Barnes ... but with the wisdom of age I have come to realise hes ok ..I dont think any top ref ever takes the field with the intention of being anything other than totally impartial and professional ! And considering almost every rugby match is decided ... in fact ..every try ..will be the result of a players "mistake" to expect perfection from the man in the middle is unrealistic !
Best referee in the world for me. I'd love to see him in his 'day' job as a barrister (not from the dock I may add), I bet he's just as calm and collected as he is on the field
The respect between refs and players and between both sets of players is what sets rugby apart from lots of other team sports. Football could do well by learning from rugby when it comes to the respect the players have towards the refs. You never see a rugby ref being jostled and shouted at by players, they’d get sent off immediately.
If Barnes's aim was not to be mentioned after games he should've admitted from the outset that he was and is biased in Wales's favour and refused to referee any games involving them.
You and the linesman were the reason why All Blacks had to wait for 4 more years for a title when neither of you failed to spot the forward pass to Michalak in the 2007 quarters. Didn't even bother checking with the TMO. What a legend
The worst international ref, biased against a number of teams, tells captains he will only speak to them yet always seems to be telling the captain that he doesn't want to talk to them and has taken countless wins from the deserving teams with his favouritism Absolutely hate the sight of him
What you on about? Only talks to captains. I''ve seen Owen Franks get to have a chat with him on numerous times about scrum calls he didn't agree with.
Nice character off the pitch, abrasive on the pitch, not afraid of making big calls, iconic ref of our era
Well said and a top bloke
WAYNE BARNES, NIGEAL OWENS, BOTH Legends of rugby

I've got a match used ball signed by this world class ref! It's a real treasure to me!
“That’s probably the only one you’ve got right.” While getting some binned😂😂😂
Top reply for that fella🤣
It's the referring that makes rugby. Thanks for reffing Wayne.
Fantastic referee, honest, fair and takes no flak
And I'm Irish!!
Wayne the man.
Cool to see he is such a fan.

He's the same shit ref he was when he began refereeing.

Why do people dislike this guy so much?
Because he generally makes right, but unpopular, calls.

He's made some howlers - but now the Nige has retired he's the best in the world
@@taffy3350 Says another Welsh fan. All this Welsh love for Barnes..why could that be??
2007 quarter final
Watching videos of rugby referees really makes me think I could make an impact as a potentially respected football referee if I was ever to try

Top referee
Hello Kiwis
He actualy turned out to be a pretty good ref, but yes - most Kiwis still haven't forgiven him for the 2007 QF.

Not a word about 07. Typical.
A lot was about 2007
What a load of dribble

Yeah don’t worry Barnes, you never were.
Completely inconsistent Ref
Seriously this kid wasn’t a good ref
Most games were all about him...loves the sound of his own voice
The video is about barnes not owens
Wayne Barnes the worst referee in history of rugby
What a stupid comment.
Wouldn’t exactly say the worst in history and I’m welsh 😂
Absolutely. There is no contest.
Joubert was worse but, this twonk is pushing hard to overtake him.
@@MattyHowells2010 Of course you wouldn't. Barnes has tilted games in your favour on several occasions.
worst ref ever....
Is he forgetting Scotland vs Australia? Terrible ref
That was Joubert, not Barnes.
Wrong ref 😂😂😂
