This video is one of the best on the subject of SU to Renderworks. A lot of 3d people like using SU over VW for quick 3d modeling and texturing (personally I find the interface to be quicker and simpler) but I don't like the way SU displays models and drafting my models in SU is a nightmare. I love using ambient occlusion in RW and drafting in VW. this ties the whole workflow together for me.
How do I get the model that is imported from Sketchup into Vectorworks look like a 2D object in Top/Plan view? I do Interior Design and let's say I import a chair, it looks like a mesh, and I would like it to be integrated in my 2D plans without having to use additional symbols. Is that possible?
thank you very much for the demonstration, i have tried a few times but for some reason exporting Sketchup to vectorworks 2018 comes with errors, do you perhaps knows the reasons why, or am i not doing this correctly? thank you
I've been attempting to import my own models into Vectorworks as well as some other models from the SketchUP warehouse. When I import and turn on "view lines" in Open GL settings, the image quality greatly degrades. It seems like it's trying to show bounding lines around all of the lines making up polygons. The end result is a very grainy, jittery, smudgy, look. Any thoughts on how to remedy that? Tried to attach an image in the comments, but images don't work.
Actually i just figured it out. If you go to sheet layers, and edit the sheet layer in question, you can change the 'render raster' resolution from 72 to 300. Thanks VW! Now i will never use Trimble Layout again.
Hi David, This video was prepared in Vectorworks 2017. The Open GL Line settings work better for this version. Also the SketchUP import works really well in the later versions.

Make a 3D symbol, then edit the 2d part and either draw it in or right click can "Generate 2d from 3d"

Try using Vectorworks 2022!
Hi, when I import a sketchup file like you did, it doesn't show anything in vectorworks... :( Do you have any idea why it won't work?
I have the exact same problem as u too
Yeah still don't have an solution.. Sorry :/
Make sure you have Renderworks and select Options and Create Renderworks Textures for All materials
@@jonathanreevescad como puedo activar el renderworks? y donde puedo concegir las texturas?
I dont know why but mine doesn't work. Btw, I'm using vectorworks 2011

I have the same issues, like i'm looking at a low resolution raster on the sheet layer. looks fine in the design layer

Hey, nice Video !
Could you tell me, where i can download this Sketch Up file?
Hi Its was from the google warehouse. If you email me I can send it for you.
it works for vectorworks 2014???
