    The way I see it…. You’ll be upgrading your computer or the sound grid server at some point anyway. Not to mention that interface are now coming with their on dsp. Now if the sound grid server comes with lifetime updates… then it would be totally worth it.

    We’ve come a long way since 4 years when this video was posted, the new m1 silicon macs are strong af and if you have a higher end apollo interface you can offload the UAD plugins off to that. But this def looks very nice 4 years ago. And I’ve learned that stock plugins can be his as strong as third party plugins, and I’ve gotten into some analog gear that digital plug ins cannot. Good review tho v

      yeah it can take a massive load off. think the most ive had is about 30-40 instances running. My biggest need is to move it into the cabinet though as it does get pretty loud. But because it ethernet it can be run up to 100meters away.

      The waves mobile - waves.alzt.net/EaJOx2
      is probably the best at home solution as its noiseless (wasn't a thing when i made this video)
      However if you have space the proton is a little cheaper but generates quite some noise when under a load. as it supports ethernet though you can offset it to a cupboard elsewhere if layout allows.

    So you still need a computer for the daw, so if you have a powerful cpu like a i7, i9 quad core or a Xeon cpu with 6 cores or more you don’t need this. Plus plugins get updated all the time so if your don’t buy a new computer then eventually get left behind. Also you can also use a second computer to host studio rack and use the second computers cpu for more processing instead of this, then the daw your using on the first computer can use it’s own cpu. I like the concept of this sound grid but if you have a desktop and a laptop you can do the same thing and get more processing than this sound grid server.

    • @Unders
      @Unders  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "you can also use a second computer to host studio rack and use the second computers cpu for more processing instead of this"
      There is no system I know of that can do this bar Linux.
      There plenty of people who max out i7 also. I personally just freeze channels, Look at the likes of Jacob Collier though with his 500+ channel mix's

    • @shockwavestudios2958
      @shockwavestudios2958 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that the waves sound dsp server is a great product too, just that nowadays with more multi-core processing than ever before and also faster ssd storage and faster ram, cpu overloads are far less common. And the other reason was that eventually waves, just like every other company ends up updating the plugin versions for new operating systems and then eventually older computers get left behind due to not being supported anymore. So you are forced to eventually upgrade your computer anyway. Trust me I have been through this myself and at one point was considering the sound dsp server myself.
      But you can technically offload processing to another Mac, not sure about windows but I have heard that windows have server networking also, just not sure if they allow it to be used in the same way as Mac do with midi network sharing which carries midi data and can do audio also. “I route audio over adat anyway”
      .
      Also third option is a audio interface which has onboard dsp for plugin processing also but only thing is that these big brand companies need to give more third party support for each other then audio customers and businesses will reap the benefits but they keep you locked into their own plugin collections. Maybe this is slowly changing but I want a device that can do it all across the board then I would say that it is a worthy investment for those types of prices.
      By all means, I would say someone who has already built up a massive waves collection,or has platinum or mercury bundle and needs more plugin dsp offload and they are happy to not upgrade computer then they should definitely go for this option. It is a great option. I couldn’t go this option simply due to being a business and need to keep up with current industry trends and support.

Can you chain boxes together? What's the most powerful box available will my previous wave licences work ? How loud is the sound from the server , I.e. can you mix with it running while in the same room ?

    • @Unders
      @Unders  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Noise is like a PC running at full all the time. You can use a 100 meter Ethernet cable with it an have it elsewhere. Licenses need to be v9 to work on most recent systems.
      Yes it’s possible to run multiple servers but not something I’ve been able to test out
