Talk about character. Despite the danger, he swims towards his friend regardless of the potential consequences. His emotional response here is an honest reflection of how helpless he must felt in that moment. Not having the ability to help someone in need is a difficult reality to accept especially when its a matter of life and death. To me, this interview tells you everything you need to know about this man's true character and bravery. Good shit bro..
Bronagnos So true. Surfers are bad ass, AND good people! Saw a video on here about a surfer in Australia that was taken by a shark, with another one trying to save him and couldn't, but the kid actually tried to recover what was left of the body for the family to bury. He couldn't and was really broken up about it.
When the adrenaline wears off the reality of the situation kicks in. That kid will remember that for the rest of his life and for the rest of his career. It just rammed home how dangerous what they do is. I'm sure it will be in the back of his mind every time he hits the water from now on.
wow! I just came across this incident. Just incredible....adrenaline can make a person brave or crazy....Julian is amazing, totally brave. what an awesome guy...so glad both of them are safe! this is a real man...compassion, empathy, love, self sacrificing. ...Id be happy he was at my back if I got into trouble! Bravo!!!!!
When this first came out on the news last year I was like Julian I was so scared and shocked that Mick had actually gone under and that the shark had attacked him and killed him right then and there and when Mick came out okay I was like 'Thank you God' like that would have been so traumatizing not only for Mick but for Julian as well as he saw it happen
When he disappeared in the water for a brief moment I thought he was gone like I thought the shark just pulled him underneath by the jaws of death. To combat a massive predator and come out alive unscratched is like getting a second life. But i don't think he's gonna be surfing anymore or not for atleast long time. He is in a state what we call in science post traumatic stress disorder. He will eventually need medications or therapy to cope with it. Good Luck.
For the love of God give him a minute! He needs a hug and a stiff drink! I know this was ages ago but they were both clearly in the first stages of PTSD! They needed time not a blow by blow account on live TV! Yes, they are athletes but they are human too!
