Actually makes sense since the townsfolk that you battle aren’t relatively good people (A cult, bandit, a Mafia, a army which means war crimes and greedy gnomes). It would make genuine sense if this was the case for his betrayal.
Why is your immediate reaction to an airforce being "WAR CRIMES"? It's probably to tie in some way to the OTHER militaristic baddie you end up fighting, Werner Werman, and not the fact they're committing war crimes. It's not even implied they've committed a war crime in the song, just that they are all rude to Saltbaker, and the game itself suggests that Esther Winchester may not actually be a bandit but is rather just having fun with the role, seeing as they literally run the very place their wanted sign is plastered to.
My favorite part of this lyrical adaptation is how RecD gives Saltbaker a reason for why he tries to create the wondertart which was just left ambiguous in the actual game.

It's already implied though that he originally wanted to create it to help, but went mad trying to prove himself the greatest baker ever by baking the tart that was impossible to make.
He probably had a soul alternative in mind. That or he only discovered the need after a recalculation, and at that point, he was too deep into proving himself. Keep in mind that community service doesn't just make you a better person, especially if you've been pushed around like RecD's version of Saltbaker.
2:50 “It’s all you pepper shakers fault, Stop hitting me, this is A-salt” is the best pun I’ve ever heard. I love how canonically Salt Baker consumed the wondertart in order for the 3rd and 4th Phase of his fight to take place, and yet the soul of whichever one gets eaten is revived regardless.
@@avacadotoast5571 The 3rd phase (Salt Tango) and the 4th phase (heart + salt spires) take place somewhere completely different then the first 2 phases of the fight. It's not inside the bakery, nor is it on island 4, or the rest of inkwell. So in my mind it must be taking place in the Astral Plain, and to get their, he would need to have consumed the Wondertart, as it's very purpose was to give whoever ate it "complete control over the Astral Plain"
The part where he says "THE FLAVOR OF THE SUFFERING THE ANGUISH AND THE TEARS WILL BE MY PAY FOR THE AWFUL WAY I TREATED ALL THESE YEARS" left me stunned 4:12
@@kylestubbs8867 Completely unrelated to Disney, but he also incorperated the old "Patty cake" nursery rhyme into his backstory as a mock to how the residents of DLC island abused his bakery job making him do hard labor. If memory serves me correctly, a lot of old cartoons from the 1930's incortrated a lot of fairy tale stories and nursery rhymes to appeal to younger audiences at the time.
I’m so glad that there’s finally a reason why Saltbaker is evil. He’s just an old man running a bakery all by himself, and the whole town is building up demand for his pastries, not caring about his stress enough to help him, or at least realize that he’s a person too, who has to take a break. Years of that can drive people to do some crazy stuff. Not to mention that this is just an amazing song overall!
I love how near the end we get both intermissions with Mugman & Saltbaker, as well as an actual motivation for why he wants to gain control of the Astral Plane (unless it was actually said in the games & I don't remember)

Ok, listen, I know this isn't his canon backstory, but it would make a lot of sense. I personally don't think Chef Saltbaker's niceness was ever a façade. The "I'LL USE YOUR HEADS AS SERVING DISHES!!" was legitimately terrifying. Not to mention the all of the emotion and power in every single line as well as the incredible lyrics! This is a phenomenal cover, RecD!
First off, I wanna say that the backstory Saltbaker was given honestly made me think of the backstory parts of fnf the musical (notably whitty and garcello). Secondly, the part with the wondertart flies was very unexpected and as soon as Saltbaker started describing them, I KNEW WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT (I can't get the voice acted one out of my head, please help). Thirdly I like how the subscribe song is more old timey, nice touch
Amazing job, what I love about your version of Saltbaker 1. His plan of controlling the Astral Plane is explored more and that he wants to create a baking world to rule and drown everything and everyone in Isle 4 2. He has a tragic backstory of being overworked and pushed around by the residents of Isle 4 and treated as an object than a living object 3. He has a sense of honor as he was willing to give Mugman and Chalice the wondertart after they beat him fair and square
Amazing cartoon villain song. It's got it all, a threatening bad guy, clever references to the inspirations, silly puns, oh and an actually relatable motive rant!
4:49 this part really got me, with its presentation. It doesn't seem like Saltbaker chose this path for himself as much as he was pushed towards it, by a community that treated him like a machine with no regards for what he wanted for himself. Well, they sure don't get to act all surprised pikachu when that doesn't turn out well.

I never thought when I discovered Chef Saltbaker in that Cuphead comic all those years ago, that I'd wind up hearing him sing this spectacular villain song
This will totally be nostalgic in a couple of years, and the I like how the song just explains why saltbaker was Furious in the first place. And the fact that you made a song while the battle was happening. And finally the voice actors you selected for Saltbaker, chalice,mugman and Cuphead fits them so well 👏

Not only giving him a tangible backstory that would legitimately make sense in what little Cuphead canon there is, but the way they're sung both fast and slow is fantastic, especially the delivery of "They'll know how it feels, to be treated like a meal when they DROWN!!!" and the absolute power behind it. Well done man, though I still have no idea how the hell you manage to sing that fast without breathing.
This man is probably one of the more badass villains out there, cuz he made you grab ingredients just to cut them around and attack you with them, not to mention cuphead in the background screaming for help

As an englishman, you completely nailed the dark nursery rhyme vibe of the verse about Saltbaker's backstory (I mean, it's across the whole song really, but that one bit was especially brilliant)

Idk if anyone else noticed this m, but at 5:22 saltbaker says that after he kills chalice and mugman, he’ll reform them, which might be a bit of sign that he holds no ill will towards them, because they actually helped him make the wondertart, instead of forcing him to do all the work like everyone else did to him

3. He has a sense of honor as he was willing to give Mugman and Chalice the wondertart after they beat him fair and square

4:49 this part really got me, with its presentation. It doesn't seem like Saltbaker chose this path for himself as much as he was pushed towards it, by a community that treated him like a machine with no regards for what he wanted for himself. Well, they sure don't get to act all surprised pikachu when that doesn't turn out well.
