Had they not encountered the Black Death the whole of Eurasia would've been taken.

mongolian archery and its tactics where much more sophisticated than the longbow tradition of England. As the man said, the thumb ring allowed for a ton of flexibility. And the shorter bows were great for riding on horseback. This was the bread and butter of the mongolian military. Horse and bow all day. And of course, their children could sometimes ride a horse before they could walk, and practiced with the bow all day every day. Very scary warriors
You say they were more sophisticated when the English longbowman were literally the best bowmen in europe, oh sure the Mongols had a empire twice the size of the Romans, but it all collpased after Genghis died, whereas the Roman empire survived many many more decades
Rome didn't have longbows back then lol. that's almost a 1000 year gap between those two eras you're talking about.

@@gamerin123d6 The "lifespan" of an empire doesn't depend of which bow is used. As you said, English longbow was the best longbow of Europe but you forgot that Mongolian/Turkic bows are asian. They're by far more sophisticated (not only a long stick with a rope) because they're composed of different part of woods glued and assembled to horns from a side and tendons on the other side, not talking about the bow ring and the resistant rope. When you undo this kind of bow (basic position) you'll see that it would curve on the other direction. This shows that a great force is implied and that's why those little and composite bows are better than long and simple bows. There's a great gap between the distance and speed records for the teo kinds of bow. Btw Western Roman Empire collapsed because Huns invaded Europe and Eastern Roman Empire because Ottomans conquered Europe
@@abdusselamzahma7474 thats what bow is pretty much a stick and a rope and the roman empire collapsed because of multiply reasons and both bows were used for different types of combat neither is better or worse and the mongol empire would have struggled against the proffesional armies of either france of england and the welsh bowman were some of the best archer to very exist and its so easy to make a english war bow go and make one

I have shot a lot with a bow in my life, but never seen the straight-down-shot. Impressive. I could not do it would my compound bow, but with one of the others I have I will have a go, see if it works. Thanks
H Frendal oh dude I bet you could totally do it with your compound, I imagine it would only be really hard with a long bow just because it gets in the way.
Some archers do Jarmakee by being to full draw first and then rotating their arms into position.

@TaleWorlds Entertainment must put that Sharmaki in bow skills. Level 180, this should allow the archer to shoot at places that are otherwise in the blind spot.
By the way, that Whisling Arrows were conveniently named ''Çavuş Oku(Sargeant Arrow)'' in Turkish.

you can buy from "Alibow", a chinese producer who is the maker of Turkish, mongol, chinese, japanese traditional bows. You can buy fiberglass models for 70 dollars (30 dollar shipping). Laminated versions are 300 dollar with shipping free. I'm using Turkish fiberglass version of them, it really catches the shape of a tulip which is about being historically accurate. Or you can check website from Turkey named "naveksport.com.tr" they have some Turkish and Crimean Tatar models. I also have Crimean Tatar "Attila" bow which is 71 euro, combined with wood and fiberglass. you can check their website.

Alexander Fagan he’s using a thumb ring specifically designed to shoot from the thumb. Without one you’d be far worse off than with your standard three archers fingers and you’ll actually damage your thumb in the long run.

I know this comment is from two years ago, but I feel like it still needs an answer.
If you pay attention to his hands, you can see that he's wearing the thumb rings on both sides. My assumption, just based on that, is that training to do the jarmaki involves learning how to aim with both left hand and right hand grips on the bow.
What is the draw weight on those bows? I’m assuming it can’t be too much if you can pull it back with your thumb
Mongols got their 1st bow & arrows aged 3 & used them daily. By the time they were adult they could shoot 120-180lb bows. The thumb draw is not an issue as the thumb grows in strength too.
Sadly I learned European Flemish draw(2 fingers rather than3-slightly sharper loose), so I was rubbish when I tried to learn the thumb draw & it felt like my thumb would pull out. I probably should've started with a very light bow & persisted. If you'd like to shoot heavy bows, you should always start by learning the basics on very light bows & only slowly increase power as your strength grows so you're always in control & not risking yourself or others.
arab archery talks about bows that were 200lb and i remember reading about chinese archers shooting bows up to 220lb so the thumb can definitely be used to draw heavy bows. i pretty much only shoot thumb or slavic release with the arrow on the right nowadays i find the thumb draw to be a lot more accurate than med release when used with a good consistent khatra and you don't need to worry so much about spine too. as with everything consistent practice makes perfect.
There is a technique used in modern strong man/Olympic lifting called "Hook Grip", it looks extremely similar you how he draws the bow; because of you notice, he is not pulling with *just* the thumb, his index finger supports the thumb. In some schools of thumb draw, the thumb ring they use has a large protrusion which could be grasped with multiple fingers to support the thumb. I'm still learning, so the only one I know if is the Korean "male" thumb ring - "Sugakji". Gakji is just the generic term for thumb ring. And no, it is NOT called the male thumb ring because it is used by men, just fyi.
Keeping all that in mind, using the thumb and 1-2 additional fingers to support the thumb, it can be quickly understood that a lot of draw weight can be pulled like this. Seeing how English Longbow archers only used three fingers.
It was all about slow gradual training to build up muscle strength AS WELL AS tendon strength. Same concept behind gaining muscle mass too quickly but some people who are muscle bound, even if their muscles *can* handle the weight, the tendons are much slower to change.
Chuck- I would have to say these bows he is shooting most likely are pulling between 40-55# pounds. It’s hard to judge the draw weight of a bow by looking at it’s back tp belly thickness, bit in one clip they showed the two hosts pulling back the bow rather easily and holding.
I have one of the Huns Turkish bows, like the ones you can see in the video, they're 40.

typical today horsebow only has the power of 30-60 lbs draw weight. , while the true war bow exceeds 100 lbs, some even reach 140 lbs . i have seen Mr Ali (bowyer from china) hit target more than 100 meters away.

A skilled, well practised archer will always make it LOOK like it's easier than it is, so you can't tell much at all about the power of the bow by how easy it looks. More telling is how in the earlier video the 2 other guys managed to draw & shoot the bows, so probably under 50lb-though I don't know if they already have some archery experience.
His Grozer had got to be at least 40#, but 45# sounds more accurate. The other guys are using his own Turkish bows that he made, the one I bought from him was 40#'

I wantto see if he is "Consistent" standing further from the target like 40 yards instead of 10 feet. Notice how you do not see the distance in the video but judge from the sound of the whistle arrow I am guessing 10 feet if that. Just Sayin!

Also the bows he uses are generally on the lighter side as far a draw weight goes id like to see him do half of what he normally does with a 100+ pound bow.
He actually does know Lars, but sadly any archer who knows their stuff will tell you Lars is using a lot of truck photography, along with very light bows, even the sources he cites for his technique calls it a "trick".
Now yeah sure, that could be a miss translation, but there's no way lars could shoot as fast as he could of he were asked to perform in public, where people could examine his course and target. Poke into it a little bit and you'll find a lot of archers who have very logical critique of Lars.
If your really want a archery idol to look up to, so a search for Mihai Cozmei, he is really really amazing.
Lars can trick kiddos with his movies. Huns, Turks, Mongols were real deal and we living in a world which is partly shaped by their bows and arrows.

@@gamerin123d6 Uh, I myself wouldn't say that. Compounds are almost nothing like other bows. I would say as far as shooting, a long bow and a recurve/horse/composite are more closely related than either is to a compound.
Gamerin123 d I would suggest branching off and trying new. Recurve is not as similar to recurve as you may think and they are harder to shoot though you are correct in saying they are an advancement in technology they are easier than say a longbow but still hard unlike compound
