    What a highly intelligent normal straight talking straight down the line good man and most brilliant musician John Forgery is, John suffered for his brilliant art, and he paid a very high price, his dear brother Tom leaving the band and later losing his life at a young age hurt John deep down in his heart, The actions of Tom Dough & Stu was stupid beyond words, they could not take that John was the man who was born with many God-given gifts that they did not have and yet all 4 boys were very important together. The actions of their manager and record boss were nothing less than daylight robbery. Later in like John found that happiness he and his family deserves

  • @adamzanzie
    @adamzanzie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    At least John gave Doug and Stu the opportunity to write songs of their own and have them occupy two-thirds of the album. It may have been a failed experiment, but it was John's way of saying, "Okay, then let's see what you guys can do." It proved his point.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. As they ALL knew, it was John's way of sabotoging the band because he no longer had dictatorial control - picking up his marbles and stomping home. Stu and Doug knew Mardi Gras was doomed from the start.

    • @muzikdude1188
      @muzikdude1188 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @ But wasn't this what Stu and Doug had been bitching about for so long? Having more input? In music where success is here today and gone tomorrow, you don't mess with a good thing when you're lucky enough to stumble onto it. Instead of just sitting back and enjoying the ride, the other guys in the band had to go and botch everything up by constantly demanding the control they never earned and didn't deserve. John finally gave in and let them have the spotlight...and they melted under it.

      M P - They wanted to write since 1969. It wasn’t until after Pendulum when they (Stu and Doug) realized that they couldn’t write shit, or rather, do what they wanted to do. At least Tom had the ability to write 4 ALBUMS

      Takes your take? John has an ego. That was all ego. Yeah we get it he wrote the songs. But dude, you would only understand if you were ever in a band that wrote originals.

    John's "dictatorship" and incredible drive to succeed created the greatest Rock N Roll band ever. Glen Frey and Don Henley's dictatorship created a pretty good band also lol These men were driven and very talented. They didn't sit down and wait

    Geez, how many of us would love to be in a hit band even if only one guy was writing, creating and singing the music? Most of us will never know what it's like to be in that position.

      Granted, when you are a musician and creating music is your outlet, it's not quite that easy.

    This reminds me of Steppenwolf's "At your Birthday Party" album where John Kay let some of the other band members write and sing some songs as they also thought "me too", while it went gold it also was a patchy album just like "Mardi Gras" was for CCR. Many similarities between Fogerty and Kay if you think about it, both the voices and leaders of their bands who also tried to keep things together and keep successful.

    • @ernestoclaudodip9671
      @ernestoclaudodip9671 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Les Shoenberger Yes there is a difference between those albums AYBP is a great album and Mardi Grass shows that John was right , only his part of the album was good enough for a CCR record.

    • @lesschoenberger3070
      @lesschoenberger3070 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ernestoclaudodip9671 It's a matter of opinion I guess, calling the "Birthday" album great, many think it has some really good stuff on it but then many think some of the tunes are stretching it a bit, but it is a matter of one's opinion. I know Kay likes some of it but not so much songs like "Mango juice" and "God fearing man" and "Sleeping and dreaming", but that's his opinion too!

    John micro-managed all aspects of the band ...he was the band

    • @joet840
      @joet840 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's the problem, micro- managed. If he was boss ,why not fire them and get people he could get along with or contribute if that was the problem. I think it's because he wanted it that way,to dominate,and that's how you get all the credit and royalties.

    John was 1000% right. I've had to deal with the same issues. I finally dumped a longtime friend and drummer because I got sick of carrying his ass. He was never willing or able to step up and do the things necessary to be the leader. He played drums and barely sang harmonies, yet thought he was entitled to be co-leader just because he was a friend. Everything with him was struggle to get him to do because it wasn't his idea. Step up or shut up. You don't just get things handed to you that others work for. The rest of CCR needed to shut up and focus on supporting the one who made them, not demanding to be his equal when they obviously were not.

    Phil and Don Everly.
    Ray and Dave Davies.
    Phil and Dave Alvin.
    Noel and Liam Gallagher.
    John and Tom Fogerty.
    Siblings can take a toll in a rock band.
    But why stop there?
    Why not...John Lennon and Paul McCartney?
    Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel?
    Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend?

    That's a good way to have a good band with a figurehead but a great band gathers input from every band member and every band member has input to give and the lyricist should recognize band members inputs as their additions to the song making it their songs as well as his. Military still has a democracy in certain aspects. If multiple divisions are both involved in something they compromise with each other and when they accomplish something, their country accomplishes something not the leader

  • @JoshTruff
    @JoshTruff 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bands with leaders get in ego crashes and break up look at ccr they broke up because of John being a harsh leader not because they tried democracy. If you had a leader that spoke for everyone that's different and its also democracy. John started to speak for himself not for the band and thats where in my opinion problems arised

    • @davidkirkham6497
      @davidkirkham6497 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Your wrong! John always had the bands best interests in mind. Even after they broke up, John made the Blue Ridge Rangers name up so not to cash in on the Creedence Clearwater Revival name. He(John)was the best thing Tom, Doug, and Stu ever had.

    • @Daniel_Antonio_Arellano782
      @Daniel_Antonio_Arellano782 หลายเดือนก่อน

      John was everything in the band. Songwriter, producer, guitarist everything. He would keep the sound of their music in check. I saw him in concert and he still hardly misses a note of the original hits.

  • @tomthefunky

    I have a theory about all that. I've been in bands and I can tell you that democracy doesn't work in bands. Just because democracy is the best thing for countries, doesn't mean it's best in every endevour of human interaction. It doesn't work in the military. That's why rank was invented. I can give many other examples.
    Clearly defined leaders is the best way to ensure longevity in groups. Count Basie's core bandmembers were with him for almost fifty years!!

  • @Ptrrrrrrrr
    @Ptrrrrrrrr 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know about Bono doing that, as he though he was shit himself (the ad he put up said something like "bad singer, worse guitar player"). I do know The Edge really bases his melodies on whatever Bono wakes up with during the night. Without The Edge, Bono would probably just be some run down artist.

  • @Ptrrrrrrrr
    @Ptrrrrrrrr 12 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A band works how out works... U2 is still together and Bono obviously has a giant ego. They make great music because it simply works...
    Creedence didn't work because the band-mates didn't allow themselves to just be vents of John's brilliance. Maybe he was completely insufferable (which I doubt), but it was his brilliance that made Creedence and if they'd let him, they might still be together.

    John Fogerty is a rock musical genius. Sadly, he is also a self=centred, "ego tripping, power tripper" as we "hippies" said. His every comment on the band's troubles proves it. He MUST be in control -- and that kind of problem destroyed a lot of the great bands back then.
