Thanks for posting this video. It was most helpful. I was taking my laptop apart to replace a broken USB port and I knew that there was at least one screw under the keyboard, but I couldn't work out how to remove the keyboard. Simple when you know how, thanks to your video.
@@ColtonPox Actually, I'm just in the process of rescuing this one, as someone gave it to me as scrap. I'm just replacing the USB port to put it back in, but I have an issue with the optical drive and it's not the drive itself, as I tried several different ones. It just won't boot from the optical drive at all. I fitted a HDD to it and I was able to install Windows 10 by booting from an external optical drive before I dismantled it to replace the broken USB port. If you get the 1909 version of Windows 10, you can install it using the Windows 7 product key and it will be activated with a Digital License. Other than upgrading the RAM and fitting an SSD instead of a mechanical drive, there might not be much more you can do to it. This one came with 2GB of RAM (which it didn't have when I got it) and I've installed 4GB of RAM. I'm not sure if it will take 8GB (it most likely would), as I don't have spare 4GB modules. I haven't researched whether the CPU can be upgraded, but the issue here is that forums indicate that it has an Intel CPU, whereas this one has an AMD CPU. It seems that these G series laptops were quite varied in their specifications.
Would you happen to know the product numbers for the CPU fan and the wireless card? I have a laptop that is pretty much the same as in the video and I'm needing to replace both parts. I've found numerous product numbers online and didn't know if the replacement parts are universal for all laptops in the g series. Thanks.
Those particular parts are usually universal. CPU fan: www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=hp+g6-1a75dx%EF%BB%BF+cpu+fan&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=hp+g6-1a75dx%EF%BB%BF Wireless card: www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=605560-005&_sacat=0
Good video. Clear, concise and easy to follow. Nice one.

The number 1 upgrade I would recommend is installing SSD drive. You will notice drastic improvement in performance.

What is the exact model number of your laptop? It should be somewhere on the black sticker on the bottom.
g6-1a75dx

When I try to unscrew the bottom the screws don't fall out and they make snapping noises
Did you unscrew both screws? Just unscrew them until they make snapping noises. Make sure the battery is removed then try prying the thing open
Exactly, thanks!
