Always great to see 1385 pop back up again, make sure others don’t forget about her. I’ve volunteered on working on both the tender and engine and slowly but surely it’s coming together. If all goes well in a few years 1385 will be home and steaming again 🤞
My Dad worked for the C&NW for 39 years retiring in 1966. When I was six years old I met him to have lunch at his job as a ticket seller at tge company's Milwaukee depot. He took my hand, guided me thru the bowels of that great station, and we wound up trackside next to a towering steam engine. He told me this was the last operating steam locomotive the RR would operate and he wanted to give me a ride. With help from a conductor I was hoisted up the engine into the cab and with a pull on the whistle we were off! The ride only lasted a few minutes as we stopped on a turntable and swung around to head back north to the station. I still remember that ride so many years ago. Thanks Dad...❤
Cool video with their Chicago & Northwestern 1385. I hope one day to see this little 4-6-0 “Ten-Wheeler” in operation soon when the restoration is completed there.

Probably in a decade at the rate they're going. They need to take it back from SPEC machine, there's nothing left they couldn't accomplish with volunteers in North Freedom, as apposed to letting SPEC's very few people dedicate only a few hours a month to it
@@seand7894They’re actually aiming to get it back from SPEC Machine and proceed with the work at North Freedom sometime this year or early next year, I’ve asked a couple volunteers recently and that’s what they’ve told me
@@seand7894actually it is nearing completion. The running boards recently have been installed. Mostly All the repairs are completed and need reinstallation.
@seand7894 it'll be back within 3 years at the most (keyword) they're already installing a lot of the appliances back onto the boiler, and the tender was recently painted.
1385 wore a variety of 5 chimes during her operations at north freedom. Her whistle from 97 and 98 are completely different however. One has a low pitch and the other one is a “cough up smoke” sound. 5:33 and 7:53

Miss this beautiful gal. Saw her many times. On tours and at the museum. Hope to see her run again
Awesome locomotive, train and wonderful footage indeed! I love this so much!
Glad you enjoyed
Enjoyed watching the footage of 1385 from 1998!
Thanks

Totally agreed
@@bensipiorski6645and when 1385 is done, the Montreal would be next followed by D&R 9 hopefully

I hope this R-1’s rebuild won’t last for much longer. Once she’s up and running again, the MCRM’s low visitor rate will definitely rise up again.
1385 is still being restored to operation, but I don't know when it's going to be completed...

Fun fact about the locomotive: it once cosplayed as a DL&W steam locomotive
1053. That was back in 91-92. She also was disguised as # 43 in 1995.
any idea what the whistle is?
Sounds like a 5 chime

As the description states, restoration is ongoing.
