The GMB Algo is continuing to evolve and soon we will see big changes with businesses stuffing keywords into their business title. In our opinion, the ranking weight will move towards domain authority rather than mere keyword and CTR manipulation!
GREAT Video.... While I agree that it is only a matter of time before Google tanks businesses using keyword stuffing in their listings, Luc brings up an interesting (and to me, actionable) point to ponder for a 'local' business. Consider adding the keyword and city within the business name. Maybe generic, but I can see it definitely working for the business serving the area. We all know this is used in practice today by by others.

You can surely add it at your own risks, listings can be suspended unless your registered company name includes both keyword and location. I've been testing similar methods including the addition of a keyword specific subdomain GMB listing at the same postal address location as the TLD domain GMB listing. Google merged the two GMB listings and I simply changed the main GMB title to suit the subdomain exact match keywords. This seems to be in line with GMB Terms of use.

I wonder how many legitimate businesses that have a keyword-rich trading name or DBA will get (temporarily) suspended by people following your advice and reporting businesses ranking above them because they didn't do enough due diligence before hitting the 'report' button?
It's so frustrating when you see large scale businesses employing these tactics to gain an edge. I've tried countless times to remove their spammed insertions but they simply replace them when they become aware, and as for Google, they do diddly-squat about it.

What is the difference between doing this and adding keywords to the name? Because in this last example when your business jumped to #1, the business name is not even there so there's still the same risk. Not trying to play devil's advocate here, I truly love your content, I'm just trying to understand the strategy.
I did this only to illustrate how powerful adding keywords to the business name field on your listing is. Google's guidelines are very clear. If your business is called "X" in real life you should put X in the business name field of your listing and not "X web designer Dallas" for example
I seriously doubt that Google will fix this problem because there are a lot of money in certain industries. The big businesses will benefit a great deal. The little guys will get hurt the most out of this business name problem on GMB.
Sorry Mark, but i'll have to disagree with you on this one. As a matter of fact, small businesses can play with their business name very easily. Not so easy for companies like Mc Donald or Walmart, to temper with their names.

I found this hack contradictory. First of all we are complaining for businesses who are using this technique and then we are using it for ourselves. Secondly, I do not believe in idea of changing business name for one specific keyword. It's an expensive tactic not a long term strategy.
Hi Shailendra. Not sure why you think there is a contradiction here. Some businesses are spamming the results by adding keywords to their names, which is against the guidelines. You can legitimately add those keywords if your business has the correct name as long as you are willing to rebrand yourself. Whether it's short-sighted or not is a different story. Bearing in mind, keywords in business names have been a major ranking factor for over 10 years

Thanks Franck. I agree, it's to easy to rank a business based on the Google algorithm and Google is not efficient enough to punish the spammers. I've seen listings that dominates the maps for months on end and nothing is done about it. Will definitely let you know about a brainstorming session when I have some spare time 😅
it has not to be fixed, Google should just do their work and suspend reported violators. That is the real problem for me. I have reported dozens and dozens. It seems they just dont care :-(

Hi David. I think you got the message wrong here. I encourage you to watch the video one more time. All I am doing is saying business titles have a major influence on rankings. I don't advocate keyword stuffing at all. I used this as a case study to show the results and provide solution on how to use it to your advantage which don't include keyword stuffing and are totally within Google's Guidelines.

The snitching idea could backfire if there's an exact match keyword subdomain sat on the respective GMB listing.....report it, however some people are being really greasy and leaving negative reviews to attack people who might legitimately be using an exact match GMB keyword title....these people are extremely greasy
Sorry Luc this is the first video where I feel you have been misleading to get more views, and I can't give it a thumb up this time. The way you've titled your video gives an impression of the video's content, but actually it's a practice that should not be used. And you have already covered reporting this bad practice by other businesses in a couple of your other videos. I think the content of this video is useful, but the title is giving people the impression you are sharing a tactic that can be legitimately used.
Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to read you're disappointed. The point I am trying to make here is that you can use Google's algorithm to your advantage in a legitimate way if you are willing to make drastic changes to your business. The tactic works very well and is being used more and more in highly profitable verticals such as lawyers. While I get your point this is a topic I've already covered, not everyone would have seen it and it is a very important topic. It also shows a couple of powerful tools that can be used to track your performance if you were not familiar with them.
I can't believe what i'm hearing... Man you you're telling us to put the keyword in our name's listing and then you tell us to report businesses that do just that. Am I missing out on something?
You clearly need to watch the video again. I’m saying that adding a keyword in your business name makes a huge difference, however it is against google’s guidelines. The way around it is for your business to legitimately include keywords in its name. So if you’re called “New York second hand cars” then all the keywords you are targeting would be in the name.

Are you buying them? if so I would suggest you be careful with doing that. 5k sounds very suspicious to me and is likely to be very suspicious to google too.

So alternate question, I remember someone saying there a way to report this right from the listing page. I done remember where. I know exactly what you mean. Unless google changes the way they do things, local search results on maps are likely to look very samey. Whoever has a different name may benefit from it. The trick will be to work on increasing authority for the business in question

Hi Haus. thanks for your comment. I think you misunderstood. I never suggested you should add keywords to your business name. Watch the video again and you'll find that I recommend that a) you report spammers and b) if you want to take advantage of the Google Algorithm legitimately you would need to change the name of your business all together.

Yes it does. It's all about how you represent your business. All I'd need to do is check your storefront using google maps to see that the business name is "Hair Studio" and not "hair studio London". Also, trying to use "London" as a keyword to rank higher in Google wouldn't be very beneficial. People searching for a hair salon will do so using hyperlocal keywords such as "hair salon Clapham" or "hair salon Richmond" Try focusing on what's appropriate for your area.

Your GMB is not set up properly: Your a service area business but you have put an address on your listing, the website option redirects to an instagram page which goes against the google guidelines If i search for your business on google maps your cover image is TikTok picture with your tiktok handle on it....

Good question. The business name you are using for your GMB profile should be the legitimate name of the business, so It shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Franck. I agree, it's to easy to rank a business based on the Google algorithm and Google is not efficient enough to punish the spammers. I've seen listings that dominates the maps for months on end and nothing is done about it.

it has not to be fixed, Google should just do their work and suspend reported violators. That is the real problem for me. I have reported dozens and dozens. It seems they just dont care :-(
Those who thinks just adding titles make is it rank higher, should know that it doesn't always work, from what I think it only works if you have very well optimised profile

Hi David. I think you got the message wrong here. I encourage you to watch the video one more time. All I am doing is saying business titles have a major influence on rankings. I don't advocate keyword stuffing at all. I used this as a case study to show the results and provide solution on how to use it to your advantage which don't include keyword stuffing and are totally within Google's Guidelines.

Very confused as to why you would show that example and the resulting rankings when it’s against Google‘s policies? That makes no sense to me.

The snitching idea could backfire if there's an exact match keyword subdomain sat on the respective GMB listing.....report it, however some people are being really greasy and leaving negative reviews to attack people who might legitimately be using an exact match GMB keyword title....these people are extremely greasy

The logo message is a bug Even if you upload a logo that message will still show. The cover photo however shouldn't be an issue.

Sorry Luc this is the first video where I feel you have been misleading to get more views, and I can't give it a thumb up this time.
The way you've titled your video gives an impression of the video's content, but actually it's a practice that should not be used. And you have already covered reporting this bad practice by other businesses in a couple of your other videos.
I think the content of this video is useful, but the title is giving people the impression you are sharing a tactic that can be legitimately used.
Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to read you're disappointed. The point I am trying to make here is that you can use Google's algorithm to your advantage in a legitimate way if you are willing to make drastic changes to your business. The tactic works very well and is being used more and more in highly profitable verticals such as lawyers. While I get your point this is a topic I've already covered, not everyone would have seen it and it is a very important topic. It also shows a couple of powerful tools that can be used to track your performance if you were not familiar with them.

You clearly need to watch the video again. I’m saying that adding a keyword in your business name makes a huge difference, however it is against google’s guidelines. The way around it is for your business to legitimately include keywords in its name. So if you’re called “New York second hand cars” then all the keywords you are targeting would be in the name.

2)I am not sure what you mean by 5k backlink not working properly. Are you buying them? if so I would suggest you be careful with doing that. 5k sounds very suspicious to me and is likely to be very suspicious to google too.

1. How did you come up with the keyword you needed?

So alternate question, I remember someone saying there a way to report this right from the listing page. I done remember where. But if so, it would be easier then searching for the business on the page you reported them from.

1: Do some keyword research using something like keyword planner from Google
2:There is a button on every listing that says "suggest an edit" that's the one you need to use

I know exactly what you mean. Unless google changes the way they do things, local search results on maps are likely to look very samey. Whoever has a different name may benefit from it. The trick will be to work on increasing authority for the business in question

Hi Haus. thanks for your comment. I think you misunderstood. I never suggested you should add keywords to your business name. Watch the video again and you'll find that I recommend that a) you report spammers and b) if you want to take advantage of the Google Algorithm legitimately you would need to change the name of your business all together.

Are the conferences taking place at an address where you rune the business from? Are you the only business based there? If not it's highly unlikely you would be legible for a listing

Yes it does. It's all about how you represent your business. All I'd need to do is check your storefront using google maps to see that the business name is "Hair Studio" and not "hair studio London". Also, trying to use "London" as a keyword to rank higher in Google wouldn't be very beneficial. People searching for a hair salon will do so using hyperlocal keywords such as "hair salon Clapham" or "hair salon Richmond" Try focusing on what's appropriate for your area.

Your GMB is not set up properly: Your a service area business but you have put an address on your listing, the website option redirects to an instagram page which goes against the google guidelines If i search for your business on google maps your cover image is TikTok picture with your tiktok handle on it....

Awsome video, greetings from Poland! I have a question about visibility of business pin? When it shows up or why it is unvisible? Ofcourse when somebody wrote in specyfic phrase then it showing up, but many people looking for businesses on maps without wroating any phares and I am unvisible for this people. How can I fix this?
Hi Adrian. The pin only shows if you have specified an address on your GMB listing. It is not linked with the keywords people are searching for.
