  • Climbing inside one of the world's most dangerous volcanoes! 🌋
    Nyiragongo is one of the world’s most dangerous volcanoes. When it erupted in May its lava ran like water. To understand what’s going on, Prof Chris Jackson descends into the crater...

    Silly me, I thought there’d be actual video of flowing lava based on the title of the video.

      While there is no footage of the get flowing lava, this shows the science that allows for predictions of Lava speeds in future eruptions. So it wasn't shown but studying it was.

    I lived in Goma for 8 years, it was so eerie to see the mountain glowing red in the evenings

      Because there wouldn't be anything interesting to watch if they didn't....

    please use drones to carry out these dangerous experiments...lets build a thermocouple power generating station in one these flaming ponds for free energy

      Was going to reply the same thing, a big heavy lift multi rotor dropping measurement modules.

    • @Avellar3000
      @Avellar3000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right? I would think that with our current tech with drones, cameras, and other measuring tools we could do this far safer with a number of drones than risking peoples lives. I understand if they simply WANT to be there and see this with their own eyes, and have that story. But from a purely scientific stand point it would make far more sense to risk a drone than a life.

      The issue with drones is that flying and hovering over hot air is pretty hard in general, even more so when you want to drop something with centi- or millimetre precision. And autonomous walkers will have a hard time getting down into the volcano.

    Miles per hour? What's that? some ancient measuring unit traditionally used in the Democratic Republic of Congo? You should have thought about translating that to standard units...

    • @susannap.8834
      @susannap.8834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In England and USA you measure the speed in miles per hour (mph). 1 mile is 1,6 kilometers (km).

    Try giving a widely used form of measurement instead.
