it's not a labor shortage, its kids who don't get punished for acting up and parents who go after the bus drivers when they try to keep the kids from treating the bus like a playground.... No one wants to work in an enviroment when they aren't being listened to and they are the ones getting punished for trying to do their job
You are absolutely right.Drove School Bus for 15 years.Kids are out of control and the driver has no voice. They side with the students. No wonder why they can’t get drivers..
It’s hard to keep school bus drivers because there’s plenty of jobs that require I class B CDL that pay much more, more hours to work, and benefits that school bus driving alone just can’t compete with. Sucks because I loved driving school buses, but it just doesn’t pay 🤷🏽♂️.
When has there been no shortage of bus drivers?! There is a shortage of drivers all over the country, even over the world at least in first world countries. CDL costs are rising and demands too, while the pay isn't adequate. Not a dream job and most people driving buses are in their 50-60-ties and no younger person ever wants to drive because of low prestige and daily abuse from authorities
Being threatened with arrest by police, simply for not enforcing 'Assigned Seating' on the bus, is what's getting a lot of drivers to quit their jobs here in Southern Ontario, Canada. $16/hr is not enough to get arrested simply because you were too busy driving to notice little Jimmy got out of his seat for a few minutes.
The two things that keep most people from considering being a school bus driver are the same as they have always been: 1. They don't think they can drive anything that huge. 2. They don't think they can deal with unruly students. I thought the same thing. I am now in my 18th year as a school bus driver. I love it.
I drive big trucks pretty often, and I know how to deal with unruly children. The problem is the police in this country will point a gun at me and lock me in a cage for dealing with unruly children properly. I'm not subjecting myself to that. The schools, parents & children can fork themselves as far as I'm concerned.
i went to first student and told them i can do mornings for now till i get to do full they refuse me already have my cdl license so i went to guardian bus hire me right away so im with them today this company with hire if its mornings or afternoons and help pay the rent
This is the best video on the school bus driver shortage. MVC in nj complicate the process leaving applicants frustrated looking for other employment. In fairness Covid didn’t help.
You have to go through a ton of stuff to do it. Barely a week goes by without having to do something to keep your job. Training, videos, surveys, meetings, DOT requirements. The list goes on. City bus is much better.
It’s not a labor shortage, it’s a pay shortage. Supply and demand applies to labor too.

Say it louder
Well said. And true.

WELL SAID 👏🏽
As a former school bus driver, what made me quit: entitled parents and children showing no respect to anyone

That Vice President guy ain’t gonna be driving the bus himself ya know
Not completely accurate there’s Uber also low pay plus responsibility is huge and disrespectful drivers parents etc
As a CDL Driver. Why would I stop driving semi's when I'm making $914 a week to where I would make $450 - $550 a week? Does not make sense.

NJMVC sucks! Took 6 months with all the BS!
I'm laughing. You get what you give

A heads up. Glaring reason more and more CITIZENS are smoking cannabis busdrivers need CDL. GET IT GOT IT GOOD
Video shows same false narrative… bus drivers are at the very bottom of the sh&@ pile and it’s a dangerous job.
I really love the picture in the thumbnail. That’s my favorite corbeil school bus design.🥰❤️
All Covid related. This is just another guy refusing to own accountability for the school districts' part in the driver shortage.
Pay and retirement benefits
There are better job opportunities
That banner is in a bad place that would never happen in SC
