Details about the book from the publisher:
In the summer of 1991, the fragile bridge of memory between Turczan’s family and Ukraine was disintegrating. Her grandfather had died, and she had just learnt of her parents dementia. Scrambling to make sense of these losses, she set out with my 8x10 camera to find the place from where they came and the people they left behind. Her first trip to Ukraine coincided with the August coup in Moscow and Ukraine’s new independence. There, a rediscovered family welcomed Turczan: uncles, aunts, cousins, people she had only heard of. For months at a time, year after year, they gave Turczan places to stay, fed her, offered rides to locations, and often assisted her while she built my ongoing collection of portraits.

It's such incredibly beautiful work. By far one of my favorite books this year. I hope to one day see the work on the wall. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful book.

Hi Aaron, thank you for sharing your impressions on this book. As a Ukrainian emigrant myself, I was deeply moved and will definitely put it on my shelf very soon.

It's such a beautiful, tender book. It gave me a view of Ukraine that I'd never seen. I'm thankful to have experienced just a small part of the country through the photos.

Do you know of The Last Hurrah by Dafydd Jones? I’m just wondering what you think if you have flipped through it or happen to own it by some coincidence. I bought it after seeing his work in an article and really like it, hah! I was assuming it would only be around for a limited time and I wanted to snag a copy.
