Civet synthetic is used, so no harm to any animals- It's commonly used bellow human detection, as an enhancer to other notes.. so I don't think it's a prominent note here personally, there's no funky rotting cheese and poo. So don't worry.. I think it works in the background.. But I do think I recognise the base material, it's a specific note with a combination of ambery sweet tones and incense with animalic notes, and a beeswax feeling. The animalic note people smell as the main scent, I think is that very specific base material, which is easiest to smell in it's pure form after 7 hours, after the rest of the notes have evaporated.. but I don't find it personally dirty, it's a very smooth base material. - Worth checking out if you enjoy vintage smelling warm ambery scents, and enjoy sweet florals and oakmoss. One of the best performing in longevity from Zoologist. Possibly more appealing to the ladies, but I still consider this unisex.
You have hands down one of the best fragrance and perfume making channels. You are humble, calm, generous with useful information and you rarely if ever have music in the background. Most importantly you focus on the craft and not on hype and the brand status aspects of perfumery. Keep it up!
Thank you, Peter, for clear up things for me. I'm not a fan of Zoologist perfumes, but lately I've experienced a lot of animalic scents and I was curious about Civet.
The bottles are just darling! they make me smile. Been debating about sampling, probably will now that I know the civet they use is synthetic. Figured as much but glad to have you confirm it. Really haven't read much about the perfumer; however, from the design of their bottles, it certainly appears they love & appreciate their whimsical, beautiful muses. ~ thanks, Peter. :)
That's exactly what I thought, floral , but which one. It was somewhat hard to pick them out individually . I knew they were there, but they were all blended together. Yes, resinous sweet floral mixed basket. I'll go back and re sample it to get a better understanding of the oakmoss. It's one of the more approachable from Zoologists. It wasn't bad. Yes, it was more feminine .I have a couple that are slightly feminine floral already that I like better, so I am good with them. MDCI's Chypre Palatin is nice. Thanks for the review Peter.
I have not smelled anything by Zoologist, but would like to get my nose on them, including this one, Bat, and Rhinoceros. Thanks for the review, Peter!
I like your videos very much, the way you describe things, I think you are very articulate. My only advice, for the videos you make outside, get yourself a SmartLav microphone. It's very easy to use with your mobile and will bring your audio to a new level.
I've tried all their fragrances including Civet and most of them turn really tropical fruity on me / or have noticeable fruity nuances for some reason (except Beaver). Did anybody experience the same? Damn skin chemistry!
Animalis doend't smell like civet really at all, it's used in another niche fragrance by Amouage called Figment Man.. you should be able to smell the similarity if you tune in to the note, it's quite distinct
That's interesting. I was hoping that I'd get a very slight civet note. Thank you for your perfume making videos; I started making my own 5 months ago. I use PellWall's civet in some of my stuff and it works wonders. But I see how it can ruin a fragrance if not used in tiny quantities.
Hello again Peter.Do you know how to give a watery effect to a perfume formula? Or tea effect? I have no clue, I was thinking that maybe an oceanic compound would do the trick. I have Serge Luten's Five o' Clock au Gingembre and it has a distinct watery ginger tea smell.
I bought my Tea notes from Hermitage Oils... but they closed up and moved to Italy, the new site isn't up and running yet.. they're having problems with the local council - I'd imagine you can find it else where though
I can get rooibos and chamomile from my country (South Africa). Yeah I was checking out Hermitage Oils. The Australian branch is working. They have a lot of stuff I can't get from other websites, like Blue Hemlock for example. Impressive.
Oh my goodness I just Finished making my first fragrance doesn't even have a name yet my ingredients that I used were very similar I even added cevit in mine like one drop so I guess I'm not doing to bad with my formula lol Thanks for sharing
I smelled this a couple days ago. It feels very confusing. There is way too much going on in my opinion. It's very busy, sort of like you went to a department store and sprayed a bunch of frags on your skin.
Nice review Peter!! Rediculously well described. all i get with this one is feces feces feces, seriously, 100% shit. Only Joe King, no i still need to try all of these, they're on my list anyway.

Thank you! the perfumer is Shelly Waddington, she also made Hummingbird

I accidentally set this live... It's meant to be hidden for another couple of days ;) so you're early!
XD, those things happen.

They're certainly a bit different!
Elegant review. Thanks. M
Thank you!
Yeah I agree on it having little to no civet. To me it's just powdery and leans very feminine with kinda of a vintage 80's vibe. Great breakdown man!
Yeah it's not for everyone

It's filmed on a Canon 70D DSLR camera, plugged in with a powererd Rodes external microphone on a Rycote lyre shock mount. With an added deadcat.
Never mind, perhaps it was too windy then. Great videos!
I love dark and animalic fragrances. Thanks for the review. Already requested one of my relative in Canada to buy FB of Civet for me.
I don't find this animalic or dark much...
Speaking of civet, could you make a review of 50 ml d'ambiguité? Ok, it's not civet, but castoreum. But I'd love to hear your opinion on this.
I've tried all their fragrances including Civet and most of them turn really tropical fruity on me / or have noticeable fruity nuances for some reason (except Beaver). Did anybody experience the same? Damn skin chemistry!
Strange..
I got a sample of this today. I don't smell any civet whatsoever.
me neither, it's a synthetic pre blend base called 'Animalis'
Ah ok. Sythetic civet a 1% would have worked too I think.
Animalis doend't smell like civet really at all, it's used in another niche fragrance by Amouage called Figment Man.. you should be able to smell the similarity if you tune in to the note, it's quite distinct

you get a dose of civet when you smell Dusita Oud Infini, good example of it being used
Great review ! I’m a new subscriber :)
Cheers!

well you can buy Tea notes... I have 3 different Teas notes... Rooibos Tea, Lapshang souchong... I forget the third, but you can get them
Jasmine Tea! That's my other one..
Kcool. Thank you. I think Rooibos and chamomile might do the trick.

It 's your choice. May be your should say about it loud) Nature components are good choice to a certain limit

I know exactly what you mean.. I think that's my " Soup " analogy!

I do not like animal ingredients in perfumes. I have respect for the animals, I'm a vegan. I do not know if it's good animal smell perfume. I say no!
Ok... but this is synthetic, it's not real... it's equivalent of buying a Vegan Sausage
OK
