    Finally, an actual tutorial that makes sense. Thank you.
    BTW, I have to ask, what kind of Mac do you have that it's struggling to just play back 3 instruments in Cubase?

    Great tutorial, but I’m having trouble getting sound on each track like you were getting at 25:00. The first channel is the only one I’m getting sound from, while the other channels are silent but show the midi data being received via a green light in my vepro server. I followed all your steps but no luck. Anyone have any advice?

    Hello thanks for this video... One thing you didn't explain very well is the remote connection between the mac and the PC. I saw a piece of software called "microsoft remote control" but didn't understood. How you do to see the PC on the Mac display. My goal is to use two Mac in fact...

    Thanks for video. Do you know how I can connect Cubase from Windows PC and Logic Pro x from Mac? I know VE pro only works with one DAW and connects VST and not another DAW. But can you please give some tips how to achieve this?

      Cubase and Logic can not be connected this way. For this you got to use MIDI and an audio interface.

  • @BKinterceptor
    @BKinterceptor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Nick, how are you running audio on the pc machine? Does it have audio interface, or with asio4all?

    • @SOUNTH11composingdesign
      @SOUNTH11composingdesign 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The audio is sent back via the ethernet cable. So one cable sends MIDI to the PC and Audio back.

    I have iMac master and powerfull PC for graphic work. I would like to use its CPU for virtual instruments. Venne Ensemble Pro 6 is dedicated only for Kontakt based VST's?

    Thanks Nick. Im at that place where things are getting 'poppy & clicky' so this was very useful. Is this the best and only option for networking midi and audio as it seems a lot of cash for me at £175. I wish I could buy it with the free orchestra omitted and a lower price. That's me though never really satisfied. Great Vid thank you again

      I think if you're using Cubase there's a build-in equivalent. There's also some old software eg FX teleport (free) but not really up to the job. I think Jack can do it but I found it a pain to set up.

    Nick, Thank you for being so meticulous in your teaching. Great Video.
    One Question: As you say, you can use many tens of tracks in a composition.
    How would you assign the 16 MIDI Tracks to let us suppose 40 MIDI Tracks?
    I am using Nuendo / Kontakt. Thank you for your consideration & Time. James.

      You can assign multiple ports. Every port contains 16 MIDI channels. I use Nuendo and Kontakt, too.

    Hi Nick, few questions please:
    1. as I can see - all routing have to be done between DAW and Vienna Ensemble on slave
    2. structure is fixed and I cant access vienna directly from DAW track to tweak or change sound - like in omnisphere etc. This config is good for fixed instruments with certain articulation only. Omnisphere has its real time controller, Embertone as well and many others. This will be not supported or too complicated through slave machine.
    3. how to create more than 16 tracks - in vienna have to be created more "groups" or how it is called there? thanks

    • @SOUNTH11composingdesign
      @SOUNTH11composingdesign 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Yes. But you can do routings inside of VE Pro.
      2. You can tweak the incoming signal. But you do not have access to Omnisphere. So it is better just to pre-tweak or setup libraries in Kontakt. I use all synths inside my DAW.
      3. VE Pro can use A LOT of MIDI Port. Every Port contains 16 MIDI channels.

    Is there a way to use a cable to the internet router, and still use a cable for the slave? Reason I ask is with regards to subscription instruments like EW ...

    Thanks for this video tutorial! Very hard to find information on the this topic. I have a couple of questions. Maybe someone here can help? I'm running a macbook pro '17 touchbar (front end) and have a custom PC running windows 7 (slave). I've connected them via ethernet cable (no switch). I setup the IP configuration based on a tutorial from another video. On the PC, the network is showing up as however, it's an unidentified network, and therefore I can't receive an internet signal on the machine. My MBP is connected to internet via WiFi but I was told this would be fine - it seemingly is not? I've tried running an ethernet cable directly from the PC machine to my router, but, still can't seem to get an internet connection. I've been at my wits end because without internet access on the slave machine, I don't know how to download software to it (ie VEPro v.6). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Nick first of all thank you for this video it did clarify lots of things for me. My situation is a little different currently I have a iMac fully spec'd up running Cubase 8 with lots of VST's and its getting pretty thin, mainly because I am running Final Cut Pro X as well. So I thought of getting a PC based system, the new Surface Stuido looks good, and run Cubase only on that one and access my VST's from my iMac. This way I am not moving any VST's or anything and with the new PC system I still have room for any VST's to be existing there. What do you think? Great video thank you

    Any recommended internet cables for Mac and pc? Thank you!

    • @QrchackOfficial
      @QrchackOfficial 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's standardized wire certifications across the world and it's a digital signal. There are no better or worse wires, except maybe the looks and physical strength. Inside it's the same thing. Choose the cat rating according to the speed of your network (network card in your computers and router influences this - you will only get the lowest speed of them all) and the length of cabling necessary. Cat5e can do 1Gbit/s up to 100m, is the most popular one and cheap. It's also most likely what your computers and router can do. If you want to upgrade to 10Gbit/s, you need an additional network card (or expensive motherboard in your PC), plus a 10 Gbit/s router which is also a special purchase and not common. Cat5e can only do 45 meters at such speed, so for longer distance you need Cat6 (55m) or Cat6a (100m).
      Unless you spent $300 on your router and added 10Gbit/s network cards to your PC (or bought a iMac Pro with the optional 10Gbit/s network upgrade), you're running at 1Gbit/s and will be fine with the cheap common Cat5e cable. Brand doesn't matter. You can just as well get a 100m spool of bare cat5e, plus a box of connectors, borrow the tool necessary to crimp the connectors onto wire, and make all the cables you need. Or buy any cat5e cable already done, with the length you need. It's a ripoff, but if you don't want to make your own cables, it works.
      Mac or PC doesn't matter, it's the same, Mac is just a computer with an apple drawn on the metal box.

    Hello Nick, thanks for your tutorial, I have a question, I work with Mac and Cubase 9.5
    2 months ago I bought VePro 6 and an iPad with the Lemur software and I have managed to create several instances with VePro 6 and with Lemur control Cubase and VePro 6. Now I have bought a PC that I will have as a slave and I guess the week that it comes that I will have installed all the pieces I will start it and my question is; Everything I created with VePro 6 in the Master with Mac can be copied to the slave? or do we have to do everything again? because I guess I do not know yet, if VePro 6 will have to download it in Windows to work with the slave PC. Let's see if you can help me. Thank you very much!!!

    • @nickess55
      @nickess55  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can copy your VEPro servers and instances from Mac to Windows, yes, but you need to make sure that you have all the VSTi installed on Windows. If an instance references, say, Metropolis Ark, you need to have Metropolis Ark installed on the PC.

      Yes, I have to download all the VSTi in Window format for PC and I suppose that VePro 6 will also have to download it in Window format and not OSX and enter it in the eLicence key.

    Really helpful video Nick! Since I’m gonna have a master/slave setup too, may I ask you some more specific question? That is:
    1. I have a 2013 MacBookPro 16gb ram and I’m planning to get a last generation pc (i8, 64 gb ram) to use as the slave machine. Question is: my MBP could efficiently work as the master one? Is it powerful enough to do the job? Actually which machine should be the most powerful one, master or slave?
    2. All this midi architecture is based in the end on VEP, in other words: without VEP it wouldn’t work, is it right?
    Thx a lot! Best video on this topic!

    • @nickess55
      @nickess55  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would keep the most powerful computer to be the slave as it will be doing the heavy lifting of processing the samples. The master "only" has to drive the DAW. And yes, this whole setup is based on VEPro being at the center.

      (j'aurais dû dire "...pour les francophones svp" ) Merci pour nous ! Attention, je comprends parfaitement l'anglais et je comprends aussi que l'on veuille toucher le plus grand nombre, mais sommes-nous si peu nombreux (en "Francophonie" ) à nous intéresser aux nouvelles technologies musicales pour ne pas avoir envie d'apprendre dans notre langue ? je ne crois pas, et je trouverais bon de donner un peu de la voix dans ce domaine ! Non?
      Merci en tous cas.
