The vocal improvement of Einar on the present live performances is unbelievable. Back to these days it was hard to keep the high notes etc but at the last tour he was incredible! Anyway musically he is always a genius!
He kinda lacked a lot of energy in Hannover at least. Still a great vocalist.
And also the armony in the voice with the others members, I've seen them live the last Saturday, and that armony between them is beautiful

i think he had some sort of vocal problem specifically around 2013.. you can look for versions of Restless for example from 2011 and it's absolutely badass, then more recently they played it again, it was awesome
They've always put on an incredible show! However, this isn't really representative of their current live sound anymore. I saw them live twice in the past year and they are damn near perfect. They've tightened up a bunch, and Einar's vocals are much more controlled and natural.
Indeed. It is amazing how tight they sound now. One of the best live bands in the scene right now, saw them 4 times last year, and every show was mindblowing.

Einar improved his control but helped himself by staying away from harsher vocals saving his range cause he uses so much falsetto. And not to mention 3/5ths of the band is different now since they switched with ihshans band..they tightened their playing a bunch. But i will say 100% einar should never do ihsahns vocal parts..

Danke an Wacken fürs Hochladen dieses (damals) Rohdiamanten (heute geschliffener Diamant). Die Herren waren ja damals (und im selben Jahr) die Live-Band von Ihsahn... daher wage ich mal die Hoffnung zu äußern, dass ihr vielleicht auch noch den Ihsahn-Gig von 2013 hochladet (gerne auch den von 2010). Es wäre traumhaft.

Oh my goodness Einar sounds so rough, I wonder whether he had a cold at the time. I saw them in 2017 and he was fucking amazing, although his growls were kinda buried in the mix then.
I think he had vocal lessons because he sings soo good now live and different
So if you didn't know, his voice was fucked up around this time. Ya know in the studio versions of Restless, Forced Entry, and Mb. Indifferentia where he did those distorted high notes? They ended up fucking up his voice and he doesn't do them anymore due to that.
@@vesuvius115 it's curious to note he's never learned something like fry for his distorted high notes, I wonder why he wants to avoid such a popular technique
@@SammyMakepeace Who knows, maybe he tried at one point and couldn't figure it out? I know some people have techniques they're better at using than others. I mean his newer screams sound a lot better too, ever since they recorded the congregation.

Leprous is absolutely one of my favourites at this moment! The singer´s voice is totally amazing and very unique! I was so blown away when I heard Leprous for the first time a couple of weeks ago! Such a shame how crowd reacts after the first song. Singer shouts "WACKEN!!!!" Feedback from the crowd: totally silence... Maybe Leprous is too artsy for this kind of festival I think. Totally amazing band in my opinion! Extra points goes to guitarist for the Telecaster!

Einar sang so good, especially in Foe and Forced Entry, but that Contaminate Me was painful to watch/hear.

His vocals have definitely come FAR. The Rockefeller show is a prime example of that
Einar cannot do the black metal shrieks in Contaminate me like Ihsahn. that screaming part is really hard.
I saw them live 2 weeks ago and he absolutely nailed the whole song. As some other comments here say, the improvement is unbelievable and he sounds amazing throughout the entire concert nowadays
@@dariepetcu2840 Oh wow ok, I guess he practiced his black metal vocals, and got better at it, that's great to hear! I'd love to see Leprous if they ever go near my place in Europe. I saw Leprous in 2017, however they did not play this song on that show.
@@lopolikapparently the distorted highs he was doing at this time destroyed his voice, which is why it sounded so rough here.
@@lopolikapparently his voice was just messed up as previously mentionned. If you take a look at later songs like The Architect (By haken), Rewind and Slave on the congregration, and a live of Celestial violence as some examples, you'll see his screams are genuinely mental
@nathminerhaven2097 oh yeah totally agreed, his screams on the architect from Haken are one of my favorites from Einar other than the early Leprous stuff of course. He's great, and the high note falsetto he does is pretty impressive as well.

Went to see a half-assed preformance from Motörhead instead of this, few things I regret more.
Leprous have developed quantum leaps! The band pr 2021 can almost be described at Tool with an even better drummer!

I love Leprous, but this mix and audio quality makes the performance mediocre at best. I'm sure it was awesome live, but whoever mixed this from Wacken needs to be shot
All Wacken mixes of live bands I've heard so far were shit. I think they just don't bother lol

I was skeptical then i saw the thumb ring on the guitarist and knew this wasn't my band.
this is the old shitty guitarist they got rid of, check out their more recent performances they are much better now and their guitarist is quite good!

Love the "early" Leprous & Haken stuff as much as hate the direction they have "evolved" in their later albums.
I agreed with this until Haken released Virus last year. Phenomenonal album. New Leprous though, the less said the better...

Leprous is my favourite band, but I've got to be honest: This was not a good night for Einar, in my opinion, so I kind of have to agree with you. I absolutely love his singing voice, but his harsh vocals have never worked for me at the best of times. I'm glad he's phased out the harsh vocals; it's made for much better live performances.
The set wasn't all bad though. Foe, Valley, and Chronic stood out as being quite good.
@@MoonJellyGames To be fair, these were his old harshes not to add around this time he was having vocal problems due to the distorted high notes that you hear at the end of the studio version of Forced Entry, the vocal rush in Restless, and the climax to Mb. Indifferentia. He changed his screaming style with The Congregation and it sounds much better. It's also why you don't hear those distorted notes in any of the newer live tracks with the three mentioned songs. Any other live shows you see from that year and he sounds a ton better ngl. Tbh, even his cleans didn't hold up too well with this show and I wonder if he was sick as well because he didn't look like he felt too good. Either way, any other leprous show and he does a ton better live, old or new.

I never heard that Einar had vocal problems during the Bilateral recordings. That's nuts! Those songs (and moments you mentioned) are some of my absolute favourites from any band ever.
