I know a antique store owner in Vancouver who uses a 1949 one just like yours to play music on 78s in the store for atmosphere

You should get even better sound from the speaker if you cover the back of the unit again like it was when new.

That was fascinating. Always love to see vintage equipment. I own my late parents' very first radio, a FADA model 790. My research indicates it was manufactured in 1949, but I think they bought their model around 1951 or 1952. The last time I used it was several years ago when it functioned well, except for oxidation on the switches. It has a beautiful warm tone. I would love to use it but feel I ought to get it checked out in case any capacitors or tubes should be replaced. However, I have no idea who could do the work for me. My mom has a couple of cousins who used to do radio and TV repair, but that was long ago, and they have sold all their tools and equipment. I have done Internet searches without success. Does anyone know how I could find someone reasonably in my neck of the woods (southeastern Illinois) who could repair vintage radios?

I need one of those. I shared this with my pal George; it's right up his alley. BTW, we know Nauck (he has a regular 78 special on the great Internet channel Radio Dismuke, run by a pal of mine from Fort Worth.) If you ever get to Texas in the DFW area, let me know. I'll arrange for you to visit the Hollywood Hi-Fi record vault, i.e., George's house. It had to be built with a steel frame to hold the weight of all the records.

I want to get the same original RCA stereo console my mom had. There is one on marketplace, but between the distance and price, I may pass for now.

Wooooow, what a cool unit! I think it sounds great! Your friend did a great job in restoring this unit; was he finally able to loosen up that volume control a bit? I love audio carriers (different tape and record formats, cylinders, ...) and until now, I never had a cylinder phonograph. So, as cool as your unit is, I'd prefer a cylinder phonograph.

It's really cool! But I have a question, doesn't sliding the record in, like, scratch it up?

Very nice indeed. Wait a minute! "Botanic Panic - Theme from Cuphead?" Is that a brand-new 78 record? That is really cool! Pretty impressive just how good those old radio/record players actually sound. To bad about the tuning knob getting broken. Hopefully you can come up with a suitable replacement. As to what would be my "holy grail" vintage? I might already have it in the form of my Technics SL-QL15 linear tracker turntable. Would not mind finding an original SL-10, though.
