    I would have absolutely panicked at 0:30 if I was performing this since he accidentally dropped a card from the deck but he kept his cool incredibly well and casually put the card back in the correct place right in front of everyone's face yet no one noticed. THAT takes incredible performance skill. Props to him!

      @alaskanjackal 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ClubsHeartsSpades Yep, he even says on his site that "it almost went horribly wrong on Ellen"--I came to this clip to see if I could spot it and it was instantly recognizable. But he recovered masterfully and you'd never know if you weren't looking for it. That's great showmanship!

      @liammahon2740 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the 6 of spades.. you can notice the card bent and that has to be the bottom card lucky enough. You can notice him trying to work it out with his hands the way he paused for a split second 😂

    Very impressive to let her cut the deck right in the middle of the story, and keep going flawlessly!

  • @LegandsandLabyrinths
    @LegandsandLabyrinths 11 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The recovery is impressive. He screws up the initial lead-in (leaving a card behind at 0:33) and then shows her the cards to cover the fact he's got to get that card back into the deck.
    After that, the cuts don't change the order of the cards. He's got a card marked in some way that indicates the beginning of this story. After Ellen cuts the cards, he performs a final, controlled cut to the marked card at 0:50. Once he's done that, it's just storytelling.

    • @BaloneyLlama
      @BaloneyLlama 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The way I learnt it, the final 6 is slightly bent, so you can easily cut it back into place. Most the time, when you get the other person to cut, since it's bent, it often falls into place by itself.

    • @maxhamlin38
      @maxhamlin38 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a fold on the edge of one of the cards. The deck is obviously set up. I don't know the mechanics of this trick, otherwise I would offer more information

    • @DaveyPitch
      @DaveyPitch 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxhamlin38 The mechanics are actually fairly straight forward, it's false cuts and shuffles to give the appearance of a mixed up deck. From the start of the trick the deck never changes order except when the deck is cut in half, and then the marked card allows him to cut them back into place. This trick is all about the delivery of the story itself and the showmanship

    This trick is prime example about the importance of good story at magic tricks. Yeah it's really obvious how the trick is done but it's all about the how he performs it. Absolutely stunning trick, I recommend this video to all my friends when I want to show what magic tricks are really about :)

    Pause the video at 0:13. All of the cards are already in sequence with the story. If you want to see for yourself... open a second tab and play the video on it. While the video is playing, refer back to the first tab where you paused the video at 0:13. You can see the story progress as he works his way down the line of cards.

      I think it's the amount of false cuts and the ability to keep up with them while doing as convincing a narrative as he did that makes the trick amazing.

    This trick is really easy actually but it was amazing. If you pause at 0:13 you can see that all of the cards are setup in order, like the 4 aces and all the cards when he pulls his little '' story '' And basicly hes been practising this '' story '' for months and knows it like an open book, and he simply just makes false cuts and begins his story.

  • @twobyoneentertainment

    I hate to rat out a fellow magician, but the whole trick depends on the bottom card in the deck, the six of spades. If you look at 2:13, you can see the top left corner of the card is bent in. That way, he can know where the bottom of the deck is every time just by using his fingers. When ellen made the final cut at 1:49, her fingers naturally gripped the space under the six of spades, and he glanced afterwards to make sure she went there. Yeah, just thought everyone would want to know.

  • @mestresombra
    @mestresombra 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    pretty cool the effect that he managed to get with all of that. Only noticed the "shuffling" the second time around. He always seams to shuffle, but actually never does. When he presents the cards we can see that the last card will be the 6 of spades, and it actually is. Pretty cool the effect.

  • @TheBradboy2010
    @TheBradboy2010 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The way to do the trick is to have the bottom card slightly bent so when someone cuts the deck you can easily find the last card & put the deck back in order. The reason he pulls the illusion off so well is because he says the story so fluidly & confidently, I've known how to do the trick for months & i still can't master it properlly. Notice the 6 at the end, you can clearly see its slightly bent. By the way i am not trying to discredit James, even though i know how it's done his performance is incredible & pulls the trick off almost perfectly

  • @Sanchothesaxplayer
    @Sanchothesaxplayer 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great trick presentation:
    He actually does not shuffle the cards at all!
    He pulls them apart again.
    Then:
    Cutting the deck does not change the line-up of the cards. He just has to look into the cards and cut them back.
    He then pretends to cut the deck all the time in his hands. But he actually only turns them around.
    So:
    The suit of cards is well prepared and stays the same from start to end.
    The trick is to pretend the shuffling and cutting.
    His talking to the trick is superb.

    Warning: if you don't wanna know how he does it, don't read any further cause I don't wanna ruin it for people that don't wanna know
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    for those of you who do wanna know, this is a great trick, i love it and have tried to do it. It's actually pretty simple, the secret is that the order of the deck never changes. If you look closely in the beginning when he spreads the deck, all the cards are in story order, and he does a lot of hand tricks but never actually changes the order of the deck. Even when Ellen cuts it, if you look very closely, he breaks it in half and puts the bottom on top, but slightly hanging off, knowing that she'll just grab the spot where it's hanging off because it's easy, putting the bottom back on the bottom and the top back on the top. And watch throughout the whole story, he keeps breaking the deck up to look like he's shuffling, but he sets in down in the order it started in. It was a great performance though.

  • @MuzgontarAco

    The last card (the one that he forgot at 0:30) is bent.. so every cut was then recut by him because he could cut the deck with the bent card

    If you look really close you see that the cards were in the right order at the beginning ( 00:14 ) and that he isnt really shuffeling the cards. e.g. between 00:20 and 00:24 ( he doesnt put the two stacks together ). He is also undoing every single shuffle ellen did e.g. at 00:30 . He searches for the break point in the cards and moves them in the right order again.
    Still really impressive stuff.

    The 6 of spades has a little fold at the end, which you can see at 2:14. Anytime Ellen cuts the cards, as long as the 6 of spades has that fold, James knows to cut it back to the bottom and not disturb the order.

    If you look closely at 15 seconds you can see the cards layed out across the table and theyre in the order of the "story". You can see the 4 queens at the bottom and the 6 of spades at the top. So yeah its just a memorized story and making sure the cards remain in the same order even after the "cuts" and "shuffles".

    It's a very simple trick. At 2:14 you see that the six of spades is curved in the corner. So if Ellen 'shuffle' the cards he can simply get the cards in the right order by picking the six of spades.

    This guy is a great performer. Just look at 0.14 (All are arranged in that way to the story) then look at the way he fake shuffles in 0.20 (Look closely) as he puts in back to normal at 0.24. Finally look when ellen cuts in 0.30, he takes the card in his hands put the cards back into place.
    What he does after that when he ask Ellen to cut 3 times is a real cut and my only guess is that he practiced so much to make sure he pulls of the trick so hats of to him and the way he performed it as well..
