Nice Test, reminds me of Capp00 doing testing in 7D2D. I would note you had reforged eden running based on the weapons you had access to (which might be important to some since some things are changed and tweaked by the RE crew), also that the values of various weapons vary between their fixed and turrent styles since they use different ammo (particularly in the case of artillery this would be a factor I think.) Aside from that the only recommendations I would have would be to do double layer tests and if you're going to be running RE test their unique weapons as well since I'm sure folks would love to see how those perform/behave compared to the base game weapons.
For the splash damage you need to take the average of the damage of all the surrounding blocks because they aren't all the same, as it is impossible to hit it exactly in the center, and it can vary a lot from one side to the other. I could in various cases in your video see that some blocks looked more damaged than others, but you pointed at the less damaged ones with the multitool. In addition you need to build a wall 3 or 4 blocks deep and considder the weight. Then try to hit it over and over until you are through. Lastly you did not test heavy glass which has excellent damage handling for its weight.
In 1.8 now, the other reason a test target with multiple blocks of depth is important is the damage penetration factor, a number like 1 or 2 on some heavy-hitting weapons.
It has much less weight. So you get a material that’s stronger than hardened steel, but not quite as strong as combat. But the weight is about the same as hardened.
You gotta reload from the cockpit? Now picturing you having to get out in combat to manually load huge shells by hand like in Patlabor ;) Also, don't lasers do bonus damage to xeno? I could have sworn they claimed to.
I can’t recall if it does bonus damage, or if combat steel simply mitigates some to make xeno seem more squishy. That also may have changed since I made this video.
@@mov4do Ah OK, not sure when it came in, just something I noticed in the description a few weeks back. Probably to stop us all feeling like we should switch off laser turrets once shields are down to conserve ammo.
You were comparing the wrong sides on the splash damage. Even in the video you said that it was different on each side. And you continued to compare opposite sides. Your data is scudded a little bit. And you were shooting some of them on an angle so that probably effects your splash damage also.
The test was actually quite definitive. It clearly showed the order in which each block performed against various weapons. It was never about counting every damaged block & adding that up. But even without doing that, the result was clear as day on how blocks resist damage.
I,m an RE addict and that was very informative thank you.
You’re welcome! Glad you found it helpful! 😊
The only advantage of xeno is the weight. For main layer I go combat steel then xeno for extra layers
Sweet tests. Gunna use this info for my next pvp ship build. Ty!

i would love to know about flak turrets? are they any good? in what situation are they vaiable
Flak is good for drones. I would not recommend them for anything but drones.
what's the point of zenosteel then?
It has much less weight. So you get a material that’s stronger than hardened steel, but not quite as strong as combat. But the weight is about the same as hardened.
What to use for SV though, since Combat Steel is only HV/CV/BA ?
It is SV in Reforged Eden.
