    Snipes being a real martial artist brings so much to this role. He looks so much better than those actors with the "oh we teach you a few punches real quick" bootcamp. Those high kicks are crazy difficult on their own and doing them in this outfit? I'm so impressed by this man.

    Bringing on Guillermo del Toro to direct the sequel was the best decision that could've made in regards to Blade II. His style of Gothic horror mixed in with the sleek and dark visual flare of the Blade universe makes for a very special comic book film, and Wesley Snipes seems like he was having a real blast playing this character.

      This movie is like forgotten gift to fandom - Guillermo Del Toro made a Marvel Superhero movie with not just Blade, but also Ip Man, Hellboy, and Darryl from Walking Dead, and it's every bit as cool as that sounds like it should be.

    • @Gilleban
      @Gilleban 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@JamesVSCinema This had Del Toro all over it...he uses Ron Perlman in damn near everything he does (Hellboy, Pacific Rim, Chronos), and the actor playing Nomak was also the main villain of Hellboy 2. For some of us of the slightly nerdier persuasion, the style coordinator for this film was also the creator of the Vampire: the Masquerade role-playing game of the '90s-early 2000s (which just had a new video game release about two months ago).

    The Blade franchise does not get the credit it truly deserves. They weren't huge blockbusters like the Spider-Man films were, but they truly paved the way. They were good and full of action. Black Panther gets all the credit but Blade did everything that movie did first.

    • @alexman378
      @alexman378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      Blade as a character should also get credit for being such a funny character at times without being a clown. Like this is a masterclass on how to make the strong cool hero be funny without diminishing his coolness factor or sacrificing his character, they should look into it more.

    I think Wesley Snipes is a hugely underrated actor. This man played Blade and did really difficult martial arts choreography. He also played Noxeema Jackson, a drag queen, in To Wong Foo, and the portrayal is so convincing I am sure Noxeema is a real person. Those two characters are portrayed by the same person, which is so wild.

    There are actually multiple styles of martial arts used by Blade in these movies. Wesley Snipes is a black belt in multiple different styles including Karate and Taekwondo. I remember when this came out, Wesley Snipes was prolific in the martial arts community. I've been a martial artist for over 15 years, I remember him being a legit black belt. Blade actually uses multiple martial art styles. Yes, one of Guillermo first films, that's why it feels different. I don't consider this a Marvel movie, kind of is its own thing. So I'm in the UK and a cool fact is that the villain, acted by Luke Goss, was In THE UK's biggest boy band in the 80's with his twin brother Matt. I mean MASSIVE. The UK trash newspapers loves to build heroes up and then shit on them. The boys took a hammering and both moved to the US to escape. I think this is Luke's best roll, tied with his Prince Nuada roll in Hellboy II. Good to see him "up there" after what the UK did to him and his bro. Much love.

    Honestly one of my favorite comicbook films of all time! And its funny that you spoke about the villain in this because he is one of the reasons I like this one better than the first. I mean I still liked the first one but this one and the Reapers were just so much more intimidating as villains. The digital AND practical effects were amazing as well, even for this time. And then to top it all off, the action was even better than it was in the first one. A+ movie for me!

    I'm not sure people realize how much Blade 2 influenced action/comic book movies that were to come after it, up to this day. Today extended shots with CGI doubles and a free camera is the norm (and is not that inventive anymore), but back when Blade 2 released, this kind of stylized action was never seen before.

    Fun fact - the actor Luke Goss who plays Novak in this film, and was also in Hellboy 2, was in a boy band with his twin brother Matt in the late 1980's! Check out the song "When Will I Be Famous" by Bros 😁

    Snipes brought a coolness to the Blade character that will never be duplicated. The new one has big shoes to fill that I do not see how he will fill. I've watched the commentary of this one and the directors comments on the various takes about Damaskinos with or without wigs is hilarious.

    I wasn't able to see Blade 1 in theaters, But when Blade 2 came out. I had to see it in the big screen. Me and my cousins went on opening weekend. We had a blast, Guillermo brought the horror element to the franchise. which was a nice touch.

    Del Torro also use the creatures from this movie in his TV series "The Strain",which plays out like a super long theater film chopped up into 46 episodes. The entire TV series was a masterpiece on par with the likes of GOT, The Sopranos ,OZ and The Wire.

    Del Toro Knowledge of Manga, Anime and Asian Cinema is the key. He is the Ultimate Fan. He truly loves this CULTURE, he understands it. Orgullo Mexicano pero aun mejor: Geek, Nerd, Otaku Grand Master. Guillermo is a Legend. Btw: the cinematographer is Gabriel Beristain, one of the best of our country (Mexico), he's not as famous as the Mexican Holy Trinity of Cinematography (Chivo, Navarro & Prieto) but he's a Master too.

    If you want more Guillermo Del Toro vampire goodness, check out The Strain. It was a collaborative work between Del Toro and author Chuck Hogan. The vampires are every bit as nasty, and it shows a city falling to a vampire epidemic. Pretty good.

    Blade and Punisher did team up in The Comics. They got along at first but ultimately Blade left noting Punisher`s death wish and the impossibility of the completion of his mission as there will always be more criminals to kill whereas for a while,Dr. Strange`s Montessi spell did get rid of all vampires and demons on Earth.
