It's not top tier, but planting a lot of rarer flowers makes peacock butterflies spawn like crazy. 2.5k each. It's not as much but it's free, and you do it on your own island so you can multitask while you do it
I planted orange pink and black tulips I found on tour island and they started showing up like crazy. Although new April butterflies have lowered their spawning.
New leaf was so much easier when u could just go to the tropical island and catch all the good bugs and get way more for 300,000k. And you didn’t have to go through all this shit
PLEASE NOTE: With the addition of 'Giant Water Bugs' to the spawn table, this has got a little trickier... Tarantulas will still spawn, but slower. Best bet now is to hope for a Bamboo Island (not inland water). Happy Hunting!

Walk up to them and swing your net when the Tarantula notices you, you will always catch them in mid air as they jump. No need for the trap nonsense which is just time consuming.
For anyone trying this in April be warned that giant water bugs spawn in water and mess this up. I recommend if you want to do this setting your system clock back to March so the water bugs don’t spawn

Got lucky tonight. 2 bamboo islands! Took about an hour each but yielded 78 tarantulas! well worth the 6000 nook miles I lost. (2nd island was the stupid no bug life island) Make sure you fly after 7pm. Make sure you cut down the coconut trees too cause Atlas moths will spawn (unless you want them, they're only 3k bells) Make sure you shoo away the beetles and wharf roaches if you aren't getting the tarantulas to spawn.
A better trap is to make a L in the bottom corner of the map and the opposite top corner if you have bamboo island. If you do a 5 by 5, the tarantula will be caught on the inside of the L since it’s circling program is too small to escape . If it ends up on the same side as you, you can easily walk around the trap until it is on the inside. GL.

As soon as the fireflies came out I saw no more scorpions. Fireflies were spawning like mad. Still made 150k though. I got animal crossing just this week so i didn't know about turnips yet, wish i bought 100k of them 😐

It might be because you already three or more villagers, if you buy a house from Tom and find a spot for it in your island and then fly after all that, villagers appear :)
Could you not place one of the tarantulas in the little bug box thing on the beach then catch another one, dump the axe and pick that tarantula back up if you were that desparate? Or can you not place bugs on mystery islands like you can on your home island?
Only at night, because tarantulas spawn between 7 PM and 4 AM. Also make sure you arrive at the island after 7 pm. I read another comment that tarantulas don't spawn if you arrive too early.

I've been trying this every day and I don't think my Nintendo switch likes me cause it won't let tarantulas spawn.
If it's raining you don't even need to pick anything up. Just destroy the rocks and chase away the bugs on the sea rocks and spiders normally appear.

You're gonna have to cut up and dig up the palm trees in April. I just saw bugs on them and on the stumps. I also found water bugs in the river.

Tried this on the Spiral island and it works. Atlas Moths seemed to spawn significantly faster as well (granted you leave the palm trees in tact).
Actually I thought the bamboo island was the best for spawning tarantulas... It is flat and pretty easy to clear out. Great video though!
Agreed! I've done it on the bamboo island 2 times already and it was easy - the preparation took like 25 minutes.
Just make sure you bring wood in case your ax breaks.

I swam 4 full laps around my island 🏝️ going diving and made over 200k. After each round I would dump my stuff off and go around again. Much easier

Bruh, I did this on a flat island. All that spawned was the sea crickets and tiger beetles

Take the trees out on the beach due to moths spawning on them.
I was able to sneak up on one. Just play the stop/go or freeze when tarantula has some legs up. Didn’t need a trap
