Everyone is taking about how happy this song is. For me it has a deeper meaning rather than just being a happy song. When I was in seventh grade I was taken out of my mothers care and placed in a foster house. The first lyrics remind me of how it was so hard, and sleeping was the only time I could escape or when I listened to music and zoned out. I would always zone out, and it felt like reality was to hard to grasp or “reach” for because for me reality was super hard. I would cry myself to sleep and it wasn’t always as easy as it is now. I know little me would be amazed of the young women I have become and she would be so excited, but part of me still aches for the past even though it was never as good as I thought it was..

Those memories man, before my grandma died, before my mom almost died, before my mom left my dad, before I knew about death, before my mom turned cold, before I knew what depression and anxiety were, before I was insecure, before I was bullied, before I came out, before I hated my life, before I knew what adhd was, before my mom got with someone who broke her heart and messed up our family 4 years after, before she physically abused me, before she verbally abused me, before she mentally abused me, before I had anger issues, before I cried every night, before I knew about PTSD, before I harmed myself, before I tried to commit suicide, before covid, before Kobe Bryant’s death, before George Floyd’s death, before I was on a hit list for a school shooting, before it was a ‘phase’, before I starved myself for 2 months, before a family friend sexually abused me while my friend was with. Before, before, before. And like I said, I’m 13. I turned 3 years old 1 1/2 months before this song came out. Those days were the best days. I’m young, and I know I have so much to live for. We both wish we could go back in time to when it wasn't only pain and suffering but when it was joy and laughter. Personally I want to go back to a time where my mom was still alive or when my dad didn't abandone me mentally at the age of 8-9 and we still have so long to live and I just want you to know that I will be here for you always.
