Qawali is a traditional form of devotional singing that originated among South Asian muslims, particularly Sufis. I, for one, LOVED this song. I often avoid qawali-based fusion songs cos so many of them sound awkward to me, especially when done with electronic music, but I love what these guys did with the instrumentation here. I agree with Jodi about the BTS video. It was blander than some of the others.
Hi Nick & Jodi, Please listen to - Rang - Coke Studio Season 9 - by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Amjad Sabri. That's the best a "Qawwali" can get :) Qawwali is a form of sufi music genre where the singers mostly use metaphors to describe the real meaning behind the poetry, particularly sang with the lead singers sitting along with the choir sitting & clapping. Thank you & love your videos.
Qawwali is a the music genre, a type of islamic devotional singing or Sufism as most of us call it. where usually it surrounds an accordion, harmonium and tabla with a group of men repeating what the lead singer sings (as an echo of sorts). and they sit cross legged on the floor (this is it's hallmark, you know it is a qawwali when you see a group of men sitting on the floor). You should refer to Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, to see what REAL Qawwali looks like :) Chaap Tilak from CS is a great starting place :) As always, lovee your reaction!!
Qawalli is bascially a spiritual and devotional type of singing genra, originated from indian subcontinent. But as of now, it is mostly practised in Islamic prayers/poetry. Moreover, song/prayer is sung by a group of people like in this video (sitting in the center) and the verses keeps on repeating. You can check chaap tilak coke studio as well, it is a qawali even taj dare haram by atif aslam included qawali too. But i really want you guys to react on shikwa and jawab e shikwa from coke studio.
Cokestudio gracefully ended Thank you nick and jodi, and entire "boring review family" Would keep recommending pakistani music 💚💚💚💚 Love , care and peace
Qawaali Music is a devotional music sometimes described as the Gospal Music of Islam popular with all faiths. There's an American Qawaali band called Finna Fi-Allah, who have done a documentary on Qawaali. The TH-cam version is a 14m trailer but tells you enough. A suggestion would be to have a zoom call with them. Jeff Buckley credits Qawaali and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (NFAK) for saving his life. NFAK is Rehat's uncle and teacher, and often given the title "Kings of Kings", The legends of Qawaali are NFAK, Sabri Brothers, Aziz Mian, Rehat Fateh Ali Khan and Abidah Praveen are to name but a few. My favourite song is "Daikh Le Shakl Meri Kis ka Aayina Hun Mein by Maulvi Haider Hassan Vehranwale" done before he died with his 10 year old son. Its a song about searching for God and finding yourself, its for me, really inspirational. I am not saying you should react to it, and make a TH-cam video on it, but the people who have listened to it some have cried because of the lyrics - my suggestion is watch it. It isn't Coke Studio but it is rustic, raw and honest. The cinematography is awesome
I have the same taste of music as you, Nick. There were a couple of songs which seems a bit flat, but they grew on me. Thagya grew on me, specially when the gentlemen were freestyling. It brought me to their other song, Haiderium.. it's really, really 👍🏼😊
Qawali is devotional style of singing. With lead singer and backup singers and clap. Mostly qawali was used to sing spiritual songs but as the time passes love songs songs also introduce in the qawali. Bsc in spiritual songs ( Sufi song) music was not used that's why backup singers sings with claps. Than harmonium and tabla uses with qawali.
8:00 to 8:15 you guys started talking to each other and I could not hear what they were talking about in the video. Now I need to go to the coke studio channel to watch this video again. I think you are doing good, you can keep discussing but after discussion just rewind that part of the video and listen to it again. Some people like me watch Coke studio videos with you guys but talking in b/t causes disturbance.
If you want to explore Qawali which suits your listening style. You can React to Nobel Peace Prize Peformance 2014 - Raag- By Rahat Fateh Ali Khan , who's from legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (King of Qawali).
