Highlights include revised exterior and interior styling, a new powertrain option, and new tech features inside the cabin. The end result is still an oddly shaped SUV that will have wide appeal to those looking for a premium sub-compact SUV.

I agree that while i enjoy his channel, he has a tendency to not do unbiased reviews. Obviously he’s going to have his own personal taste, but his reviews should be given from the professional perspective and from a person who’s considering purchasing these cars. Like he literally started the video saying “I don’t like subcompact cars” well fine, but people who do, watch reviews because they wanna make informed purchases. That’s something he needa to work on.

Agreed, his videos are always very negative regardless of the car. I avoid watching but will sometimes accidentally view these and they are definitely not objective.
I'm not a fan of GM cars, but this Buick Encore's exterior was very well executed.
Now the grill looks a lot more classy

Great review - unbiased! I test drove the highly rated Honda HR-V and I was not impress - weak 4 cylinder engine (non turbo) and the interior is not that quiet. No automatic headlights or Apple CarPlay unless you move into the $27K trim level. Moreover, the Honda ride is quite choppy and subcompact ride feel. The Honda roofline is lower so it feels more like a wagon. I'm buying a subcompact SUV, because I want a SUV - not a wagon. I brought a 2019 Buick Encore Preferred. This lower trim level comes with automatic headlamps and Apple Carplay. Moreover, it comes with an upgraded stereo system with 6 speakers. The stereo system in the Buick Encore sounds really good - and I didn't have to go to the top trim. The high Buick Encore roofline provides plenty of driver and passenger room to stretch. The cargo area is also larger because of the higher roofline. The driving dynamic and ride is so much better than the Toyota HR-V. The Buick Encore is quite close to the ride quality of my BMW SUV but at less than 1/2 the price. Buick gives you many optional accessories at the lower trim level that you have go into the highest Honda HR-V trim to get. I really like my 2019 Buick Encore - it so much better than the other subcompact SUV offerings.

This car is actually popular with small families in Toronto. It's small size makes it good to park in tight city, good fuel economy even with AWD optioned, comes well loaded and significantly cheaper than Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA250, BMW X1 etc.
Also this Buick is also great...for old people. It's pretty high so its easy to get in & out, lots of headroom and lots of safety features built in so fender-bender incidents can be reduced. Buick still can't get rid of its roots XD
Had a Juke. Now I drive an Encore. I guess you could say I'm a classic crossover fan. I like the odd shapes of them.

It's not a bad car, it's sold here in the UK as the Vauxhall (Opel) Mokka...and whilst it sells well (cheap to lease) it's outclassed my most of the competition in the class. granted we have other makes here that you don't but overall it's pretty similar.

We have one too and love it! Fun little vehicle. Nobody's drag racing in it though. I think he likes beefier vehicles.

Thanks for post. Great commentary. Your is currently one of the few actual test drives of the 2017 Encore right now, so it's really appreciated. One thing worth noting is that you say that the new direct-injected 1.4L engine is "only available on the Sport Touring," but in fact that was true in 2016 but that engine is now an available option on all trim levels for the 2017 Encore. That being said, I wonder if you were actually driving the new engine. I ask that because it looks like your tachometer has the Auto Stop marking on it between "1" and "Off". Auto start-stop is a feature the base engine does not have, so if it had that, then it was in fact the direct-injected engine. You wouldn't happen to remember or have photos/higher-res video to verify whether I'm seeing things or not, would you? :) Thanks again for the review.
The higher horsepower 1.4t was standard in the 2016 Sport Touring exclusively. For 2017, it is optional in the Sport Touring and other trim levels.
I rented one of these and took my friend to New Orleans for her birthday. It was really nice.

Slow is relative though Sofyan. If you usually drive something fast, anything with less power will feel slower. But for what it is it is more than quick enough. If someone is used to driving a naturally aspirated 1.3, a 1.4 turbo will feel like a rocket. I think you should think of this because saying it is slow may give the wrong impression.
Yeah, looking forward to the new turbo engine review. Hopefully it makes the car peppier.

Onstar isn't that great and I've had it. It does have a built in NAV system if he had that Essence trim.

Actually the Suzuki SX4 started the mini CUV trend in the states. I bought one because it was the only one of its kind and in budget. Now there are so many options to choose from.
Within the last 4 years they had updated the Lacrosse before launching the new one. They updated the interior of the Regal also with the exterior, They launched the Cascada also within that time. Not to mention 4 years ago they had one of the newest line ups.

Question would it be pointless to get a Tesla model 3 for a daily driver if you don't have a garage to charge it overnight? The Tesla super stations are scarce in NY and they fully charge in 30minutes. Random city garages you have to pay hundreds to reserve your spot for them to charge it in half a day.

I drive a 2014 Encore and I have found that using middle grade fuel rather than regular really peps up the acceleration. I saw a complete difference. I was ready to take the car back and trade it until I fired the better fuel.
100%!!! Sometimes I put premium in too and I think it's even quicker. I also notice it's quieter with mid-grade and premium...

What is the difference in the base 1.4 and the sport 1.4?
Both 1.4t engines are available in the 2017 Encore. The newer version has more horsepower and torque. It also comes with start/stop, where it shuts itself off at stoplights and restarts when you let off the brake, leading to a little better fuel economy than the older version.
ocnblu I guess I should have been a little more specific. What are the torque/hp differences between the two?
138 hp/148 tq in normal version, 153 hp/177 tq in newer version.
Thanks ! Still a little underpowered for encore compared to some other small suvs. But the bump in torque should help some. I bet it's a good mill in the cruze
Uh that engine is normal in the newer version as well the 155hp has to be specially ordered and can be on any trim except the base model. It's called the SIDI stop start engine.
This vehicle is designed for economy first! Lot of them have 0-60 between 10 to 13 seconds!
The one in the 150 ish hp with awd does 7.8

It was designed and developed by "GM Korea", bro. GM purchased the Korean carmaker, Daewoo, a few years back.
Kia has NOTHING to do with GM, as it is owned by Hyundai.

Depends what trim. You can find them ranging on closeout from $22-$27.5K. I saw a $36,015 highest trim loaded one going for $27,500. That'll come with Nav, sunroof, leather, power seats, heated seats, and MORE.

what really bothers me also about this jerk's videos, is the fact that people who may actually be interested in purchasing those vehicles may turn away from buying them simply because they're taking this guy on his word. People, this guy is not the end-all-be-all of car reviewers and just because he doesn't happen to like the car doesn't mean it's not worth buying. in fact, just looking at this guy tells you almost immediately everything you need to know about him. He is an uptight privileged and entitled,self centered millennial who thinks that his word is solid gold and you must obey his every critique of every vehicle that he reviews. I Like the front end look of it, but the Egg shape of the back end is just Ugly.... A little Skinny College Chick that drives 50mph in the Fast Lane on the freeway is who I envision driving this particular car. Personally I'd prefer the Looks of the Jeep Renegade over this ANY DAY. Not Fast, Faster than this probably. But it's a fun little truck to drive, and It's not Ugly. I drove one as a rental some weeks ago, and I got stares like "Ayyee Cool looking truck." You don't get that with a Buick....
I like the Renegade too until we looked at consumer reports. That FIAT is a basket case. Electrical problems, people getting locked out of their own car, windows that go down but won't go back up, cam problems that lead to engine failure, transmission failures. Went with the Buick instead. People comment all the time about mine, but I didn't buy it for an ego stroke.

Yep. Drove one today. The leather seats and wheel are nice, but everything else feels the same.
I drive a 2014 Encore and it is much much better than the trax! The road noise is minimal to none, the ride quality is on par with much higher end vehicles.
If you have driven both you would know the difference. The encore is much much more luxurious. It is basically a small Cadillac for its quality and road noise. It is super smooth on the road too.
Jhollis24 It's the same car. Exact same engine. Just different design and better insulation. And that premium, this cat does not have leather. It's made of vinyl. Yet they keep calling it leather. This car is not worth what they charge off the lot, in one year they have been known to drop $10k in price. It would be a good used car though.
I bought mine used. I got a hell of deal it only had 8k miles. I have driven the trax and it def didnt have as much power. idk why it felt so different but it did.
