- I want to share all my top backpacking Sri Lanka travel tips with the world so I sat down and talked my way through 17 of my top tips and pieces of travel advice. Sri Lanka is one of my favourite countries in the world, which is why I've travelled back there 4 times in 3 years.
In this video I wanted to talk through the more practical side of travel in Sri Lanka, stuff like what to pack, when to go, things to beware of, budget issues, taking local buses and trains, how to hire a driver in Sri Lanka and....what to do when attacked by blood-sucking leeches!

An overnight stay at Mount Lavinia Hotel in Colombo is definately worth it. It is an old colonial style hotel like Raffles in Singapore and overlooks a beautiful beach.

Hi Janet, thank you for posting this video. I love the way you have put all things together and my fav tip is no 12 lol. “Get out from Colombo” :). Definitely it is worth to travel to rural area where not may people visit in Sri Lanka as those areas are very authentic and clean if you really need to get that experience . But better to go with someone who really know the area :). Thank you for visiting Sri Lanka that many times. x

Thanks for the info going this may...as for the leeches, we get them here at our place on the mid north coasts of Australia and they are no big deal, all you have to do to get them of is to scrape them of gently with you finger nail, you will bleed a little for awhile because of the anticoagulant they produce but a little piece of tissue/toilet paper applied just like shaving cut works fine...or you can just let them have a drink and drop off...you can’t feel them and they are harmless.
I guess they just freak me out a little haha

You are actually wrong about your last tip. When you go up in the mountains you need to check for leaches it doesn't matter what you wear. They will get you, those leeches. But you can put a bit of salt water on them once they are on you, and they will slip right out. Without any wound to your body..
yea they're harmless but ahhhh omg I hate them so much!!
