"Ow!" "Hey watch the paint!" - Lightning McQueen (Cars 2 for DS/3DS 2011)
you're gonna hear these voice clips a lot when playing this game so long as you don't hit a wall when racing in story mode.
I am already sick of them
Honestly, this game strangely fits in well with the other 3 cars games lol. I remember owning the DS version of this game and it’s lots of fun.
I agree, the story just fits so well with the other games. I’m glad you enjoyed the DS version of the game.
awww the nostalgia. I remembered the radiator springs and london tracks and a couple spy tasks, one on the oil rig and another at the party. This video reminded me of other tracks i played and some i was probably too dumb to find.
I’m glad this video could bring back some memories!
I actually play the ds version a lot and I like it but my only complaint is the fact that Lewis Hamilton Miguel Camino Rip Clutchgoneski and Jeff Gorvette are not in it
Yeah, it’s unfortunate that they’re not in the game. I’m glad you enjoy the game though!
I have this game on the wii only
I have Cars: Meter-National for the Playstation 2
I believe there's a reason why Lewis Hamilton and Rip Clutchgoneski aren't in these games. (Considering that neither are in the Xbox game) Rip wasn't even supposed to be in the movie. Not sure about Jeff Gorvette or Miguel Camino though. Jeff at least definitely should've been in the game, he's a pretty noticeable character in the movie.
To be fair, Rip isn't playable in the console versions either.
Cars 2 DS is unquestionably the most slept on racing game I have ever seen. The physics have no right to be a good as they are.
I like how this version actually follows the story of the movie when all the other versions take place after the movie
Lore for Derek daylight: he switched from the allinol sponsor to a fillmore’s organic fuels sponsorship after realizing that allinol is a worse scam then the build a bear pay your age event,
2:42 don't forget, they're responsible for creating NFS Nitro, Undercover, and Hot Wheels Track Attack and NASCAR Unleashed
What a coincidence, I just finished replaying this game on emulator. 🏴☠️
Im so happy im not the only who remembers this game! I used to have this game and the one based on the 1st movie on the DS XL. These games were my childhood i cherish them so much. I couldn't recall the story all too well tysm for this review it made my day!! Oh how i wish to play them again :D
I had no idea Cars 1 McQueen was in the 3DS version, funnily enough, I grew up playing the DS version on my 3DS
Nice review man! This game brings back a lot of fun memories. I have consoles version of cars 2 and had DS version, but sadly my 2DS broke. :(
Thank you! I’m glad that this brought back some memories for you. It’s unfortunate that your 2DS broke, I wish I could fix it for you, but you might not have it anymore. I’m glad you enjoyed the review!
@@shadedcollector Yeah I don’t have my DS anymore, but at least I got to enjoy game while I could!
i played this game when i was younger and i loved it! i still have it.
Ahh yes, I remember playing this game on the DS.. I completely forgot about the game years later and when I found it in some gaming store I decided to revisit it- this game is so unbelievable terrible that it makes it good. First off the races are fine. It’s the best part of the game and it’s really neat to see Japan, Italy, Germany etc as tracks which I really liked! The spy missions had potential to be good but they’re not- usually short basic and repetitive and I felt like they could’ve done more with the spy stuff. The game HAD a balance between the spy missions and the races,, until the end. After Italy it’s like two wgp races back to back and completly gave up on the spy missions in the end. The last two missions taking place in the race tracks.. the cut scenes could be better but for major plot moments I think they could’ve tried harder. The game I feel is lazy with no heart and soul but all that aside, for how terrible this game is I find myself having a good time
Yeah, I though the racing was one of the game’s strong points too. But to say this game is lazy and has no heart is a bit harsh. I think the final spy missions taking place on the race tracks worked well considering you were chasing Professor Z. Also the last few events being race events made sense considering you already caught Axlerod, so there was nothing more to do with the spy stuff. I don’t think they did any of this out of laziness, but to stay within the limited memory of a DS cartridge. Not many DS games have a “Story Mode”, so the fact that they pulled it off is impressive. I respect your opinion, but I hope you would also consider these things.
I Only Played Cars 2 The Video Game On My Old Xbox 360 And Brought It For My Xbox Series X Recently But I Do Remember Playing This On My Cousin's 3DS I Must Say It Was Actual Pretty Decent.
I personally have never played the 360 version of the console game, only the Wii version. I’ve heard it looks a lot better though so I might try it. Glad you thought the 3DS version was decent!
Oh, hey! It's nice to see you uploading again! And wow, I haven't seen much of this game out there.
Hey! It’s good to be back, making the videos that I have wanted to make for a while. I thought this game would be perfect to review since it’s not very well known. Thanks for watching!
Great job man! I love hearing about cars lost media and I want to see you do more stuff like this!
Thank you! I worked hard on this video so I’m glad you enjoyed it. I will definitely try to do some more videos like this in the future.
I remember finishing this game . I still have it and I really like it
This game was my childhood. I really loved the because of the plot. Glad you made a review about this because this game is completely forgettable.
I’m glad this video reminded you of some of the memories you made playing this game, thanks for watching!
Still have the game thankfully, played through it there again
This is the first vid I’d seen on this game
Damn, I still have this game for DS. Even found some QR-Codes on the lost media archive page about this game.
That’s cool that you still have it. I’m glad that there are websites that have recovered the QR codes, otherwise they could have been lost media…
Thanks for watching!
1:21 I just call them lightning since they are just recolors of him, but I still wish they were playable
ngl, this game was way better than the movie, one of the best ds racing games.
I might have to agree with you there. I feel like there are so many things that could have made the movie better, and I feel like most of those things are included in this game. I also agree that this is indeed one of the best DS racing games. Thanks for watching!
@@shadedcollector Yeah, it's life if they wanted to fix a bit the movie on this game.
@@YuukaKazami241Are you saying you don't like Cars 2?
@@blissykoopa of course not, i just said that, for some bizzare reason, the game is quite better than the movie, it's more simple, i know, but some reason i like it more, who knows.
@@YuukaKazami241 I definitely agree.
i like the console version more but i will agree that the paintjobs and story mode could've been added there thus making this the better version
I remember there were some hatchbacks and F1 cars that were unnamed racers like the cup cars
You will agree with me tons of people dislike the movie cars 2 and i only have this game on the wii
This was one of the only games i played on the DS
I remember playing the ds version I completed the ds game twice but is so weird I played the ps3 version aswell and I forgotten all about the ds game until I found it the other day this game is definitely my childhood I might replay it aswell somepoint
I’m happy that this game got some light shed on it since it’s almost always never talked about, in fact, I’d like to try it for myself one day along with the other DS games, but from what I’ve seen, and I’m gonna be brutally honest here, it looks absolutely horrendous, not graphically that is, it’s just that the gameplay looks terrible, as a fan of the original cars game trilogy (and just the cars game series as a whole) I’m not too fond of the console version of Cars 2 and think it’s probably the weakest out of any of the Cars games, despite that I still think it’s a solid little game that’s just way too overhyped, the DS version always looked interesting to me but it’s more out of curiosity than actually wanting to play it, a thing I always liked about the mainline cars games, even the tie-ins, is that they always told their original story, and no matter how barebones some were, they were still original, this game falls into the trap of many movie games that just retell the movie’s plot line in that it uses earlier drafts of the movie so in some cases it’s almost unrecognizable from what it’s tying into, which I think where the curiosity aspect starts and ends, it gives us a better glimpse into what the movie was originally going to be, but that’s all it does in terms of story, Cars 2’s story was already a clunky mess of trying to mix the racing and spy plot lines but this seems to be even worse by having you actually play through it constantly going back and forth from race to spy mission, and it’s guaranteed to be padded-out since it’s a game and you need more content to go through to get the most out of it, some stories just don’t work with a videogame format and I’d rather a barebones story that allows for better gameplay than an in-depth story that isn’t very fun to play through, the controls also look like hell, it’s trying to be more grounded like the original games but it’s definitely not gonna be anywhere near as good, and giving what were basic controls in the console version to specific characters as “special abilities” in this game certainly doesn’t help it, the console version, for as much as I’m not a fan of it, is a well thought-out game with intuitive mechanics and gameplay, but this game honestly doesn’t look like it’d fit that description, just looks clunky and like a product of its time, I don’t wanna ruin the fun of this game for you, if you like it, more power to you, but saying it’s better than the console version is a bold claim, however, if you find more enjoyment in playing it, then again, more power to you, I just wanted to sort of give my first impressions about it here since I rarely see any talk about it online, which is also why this comment is so long lol, again, I haven’t played it so my opinions might change when I finally try it out but I seriously doubt it, and even if I don’t necessarily agree with you, still, thank you for making this video, as this game barely gets any recognition, whether it deserves it or not, and any time this game is brought up is appreciated
Thanks for the comment! First off I’d like to say that the controls may feel better once you actually try them, the racing in my opinion is one of the best aspects of the game (honestly better than the other 3 Cars DS games). I see what you’re saying with how this retells Cars2 instead of an entirely new story, but I would still consider that this is a handheld version of the console game. Many handheld versions from this era were just really watered down ports of the console game (which I’m thankful we didn’t get). I also see what you’re saying with the special abilities normally being basic controls, but you wouldn’t normally need them unless you want to access a specific shortcut. I wouldn’t say the game is clunky, but you’re just going off what you’ve seen, so that may change when you play it. Thank you for leaving this comment! The reason I made the video was because this game is barely ever talked about, so I’m glad many people have seen it and enjoyed it. Don’t worry, what you’ve said hasn’t changed my opinion on the game, I feel like I will always enjoy it no matter what people may say. I really hope you get a chance to play this game for yourself one day, I’d like to hear what else you have to say about it (since again, it’s rarely talked about). I like the game, but you may not like it, and that’s okay. I appreciate that you commented, thank you!
@@shadedcollector I can definitely see where you’re coming from, especially for DS game standards, which for those standards it’s definitely not as horrific as I made it out to be but again, bold claim calling it better than the console version, but that’s just the way I see it, agree to disagree basically, again I would like to actually try it out one day and I actually want to make a video on it when I do, along with the other DS games, but that’s probably not gonna happen until the very far future so yeah, but if I do play it I will inevitably give my thoughts on it so if you’re interested in that then yeah, I hope to do it one day, and again I appreciate you shedding some light on this game as no matter how bad I think it looks, it deserves to at least be brought to the attention of more people, especially DS owners who happen to be Cars fans or just general fans of racing games
I think Daniel turner (the rsn car) is supposed to be a pace car.
Interesting theory, but why would he be racing if he’s the pace car?
@@shadedcollectorthen I guess he’s a camera-car,
Bro I played this version as a kid so much lol
I grew up with this game on my ds lite, which I still own the game and the system 12 years later! And it’s actually a very good game and I prefer it over the ps3/wii versions
I used to get excited over this game even though it felt less represented over the console game
I was just playing this and its not bad it has some moments that were deleted scenes from cars 2
I’m glad you still play it, the deleted scenes are a great part of this game. Thanks for watching!
@@shadedcollector yep anytime bud
Lewis Hamilton was meant to be in the console versions and the PSP port as well. But he was scrapped due to Avalanche not having the rights to Lewis Hamilton.
Claude was only seen in mock-ups of the menus so him being in an early version of Cars 2 console, should be taken with a grain of salt. It did hear a Claude model was meant to be in the DS game though.
Also Cars 2 on Xbox 360 and PS3 had DLC if you didn't know.
Yeah, that seems about right. I suspect that Claude could have been used in the Piston Cup race in the DS game, but was scrapped. They probably couldn’t get the rights to Louis Hamilton in the DS game either so that could have been why he was scrapped.
Also yes, I do know about the console DLC. I always found it interesting that they added Chick Hicks to the game.
@@shadedcollector And the DRH as well. (Boost, Wingo, DJ, and Snot Rod)
I would like to see More
This is the cars 1 game sequel
how did you get the rookie paintjob at the start? anyways good vid!
Thank you! Unfortunately I don’t remember how I unlocked it, I think it was getting a gold trophy in one of the Chrome Circuit Cups. I don’t remember exactly which one though.
Is this the one with Jackson storm
Nope
i loveeeee this game
It's Not Forgotten!? I Still Know This!
What are the names of the formula one and grc racers?
They don’t have names
I actually have this
1:11
1:15
Can you play as those
Unfortunately you can’t play as them, you can only race against them
Is the 2ds and 3ds cars2 game the same quality
The original DS version and the 3DS version of Cars 2 are basically the same game. There are some improvements on the 3DS, like circle pad controls and improved graphics. The 2DS is a version of the 3DS without the 3D, there weren’t any games specifically made for the 2DS, so you can play 3DS games on it. If you’re talking about the original DS version, the game may not look as nice, but it still has everything in the game. I hope this helps out
So if I bought a physical copy of cars 2 for the ds and put it in the 2ds would it work would I be able to play
Oh nvm I understand what h mean now
Yes, you would be able to play a physical copy of the DS version (or 3DS version) of Cars 2 on your 2DS
ong
except the ds version has backwards boost jump which automatically makes it superior to the 3ds
Is that a speed running glitch? I haven’t heard of that before, but I might have to look into it
Btw pls answers I’m not tryna be rude about it and also is cars 2 on 2ds pls reply if u see this I’m getting a 2ds soon
I’ll try to help you make a decision. The 2DS is able to play 3DS games and original DS games. Either version of Cars 2 would work on a 2DS, so it just depends what you would prefer. If you want to be able to play the game, I would get the original DS version. If you want better graphics and gameplay improvements, try to get the 3DS version. I think that each version is very similar, and you would enjoy playing either one. Both versions would work on the 2DS, so think about the differences between both of them. I hope I could help, and enjoy your 2DS (once you get it)
Ty sorry for being inpatient
And I’ll look at 3ds cause there like a flip phone 😎
It’s okay, hopefully you will be able to play the game soon
@@shadedcollector I’ve played it before I just got confused cause I can’t find any footage in it being played on a 2ds
