    It was amazing to see a pet bird flying outdoors! It must take a lot of training and trust to get him to return to you. I thought they would just fly away outside. How long did it take to train him to do that? Were you scared to take him outside the first time? He’s so pretty!

      Nvr really tried it myself hut apparently (from what ik) it's not that hard u just teach em to come back to u when called then u risk it and let em out in a open place. Where i live ppl let there pigeons out and they always come back so i think parrots would do the same too coz they love us too

    I got two really neglected Indian ringnecks yesterday and I would just love to free flight them one day! After the hell there bin through it would be the least I could do... I really love the way you interact with your birds. I know how much time and passions it takes to win the trust of an animal ❤️

    Absolutely lovely and gorgeous !! IRNs always win a permanent place in one’s heart! I look forward to seeing Berrie’s progress! I see he is quite young ( dark eyes/light ring). He is so precious!! I am still heartbroken as it has been 4 months since I have seen my love- my “grand-birdie” IRN, due to my daughter’s marital separation. 😓😓Much Love to Berrie and the flock💙💙💙(psst...keep him🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼)😉

    Its amazing how well you trained this bird.I am getting an Indian ring neck and the pet store recommends its wings to be clipped ,but in the back of my mind that seem unfair to the bird. It probably is rare to train a bird as well as you did that you can trust it to come back to you.

    • @AdventuresofRoku
      @AdventuresofRoku  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      its not based on trust, but brain development. I highly advise against wing clipping as the detrimental affects are long and extensive. If you go to www.adventuresofroku.com/Educational.php you will find all the science based information directly relating to the affects of clipping. I cannot stress the importance of reading them, 95% of people tend to just say they will and not take the time to read, as a result the bird is the one who suffers which is not fair.
      Unfortunately majority of pet shop workers and alarmingly even vets are not up to date with the most recent science based information in regards to clipping. :(

    • @cecy9229
      @cecy9229 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not been able to take mine as far as free flight outside. But he was clipped by the previous owner and it made him really hate her. She gave him to me when he bonded with me. Thats 6 months ago he now has grown out hes wings again and has gotten a new friend in a lovebird i took in after she was abused. He flies well but he cannot stand my friend at all if he hears her voice just me on the phone he shows aggression he also does not want to be near anyone for hours if she has stopped by the Apartment. I dont know if it was only the clipping that did this. Or more. Since he has such a severe reaction to her. But i would never clip hes wings again. And i dont advice you to do so either. Ringnecks can be a lovely tamed bird like any other. But they do ask for alot more patience and time. In the 6 months Ive had Charlie I went from not beeing able to come near him other then feeding threw the cage. To now having a shower buddy and no problem moving him in and out of the cage. I spent 3 hours a day spread out with good amount of breaks reading for him and just holding a hand om the cage for 2 weeks before i could even take my hand in the cage with out it making hun stressed. Patience and love is key with ringnecks. But once you get the my god what lovely companions they are.

    What is the difference between asian birds and the rest in relation to free flight? Would it be different with an African ring neck, do you think? And next time you get a chance to train a bird from the beginning could you show what location you use for level 1 (first time)?

    • @AdventuresofRoku
      @AdventuresofRoku  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      when it comes to training I never ever include any actual "training" aspects or processes in the videos. I find there is an alarming amount of irresponsible people who are very much "monkey see, monkey do" and take things completely out of context resulting in the loss of their birds.
      Last year a total of 18 people contacted me to let me know their birds had died or been lost due to watching my videos and then randomly going outside to let their birds "free fly"... thinking they would return because they had a great relationship.... or because they were good at indoor recall or best one yet.... because my personal birds always came back... *face palm*
      It's this select group of people, not everyone) who have ruined it for the majority.
      I now have to add disclaimers, answer and redirect any potential individual who may be going down this path, provide relevant sources etc etc.
      You might find most of your answers at www.adventuresofroku.com/Educational.php :)
      As for behaviours it's always important to look at the lifestyle of the birds in the wild, in their natural habitat. Doing this will help to explain many traits, training quirks and or behaviours.
      For example some species are suborial (not sure if thats spelt correctly) meaning they live in and amongst the canopies never going to the ground, this may explain an aversion to foraging down low.

    I have 2 ringnecks they are 3 months old and i bought them when they were 7 weeks, i handfed them until they were fully weaned(12 weeks). But they are constantly biting me and they won't listen. They will fly away when i try to teach them something with a clicker. The only thing they Can do is step up and eat out of my hand and in the cage they let me pet them. But when they are out of the cage they won't let me pet them or they won't listen. What do i do please help.

    • @AdventuresofRoku
      @AdventuresofRoku  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly recommend reading through the info on the website, link in video description and pinned post. Understanding how to read a parrots body language is crucial and something so many owners fall short in.
      Clicker training is redundant if your forcing engagement with a bird not wanting to be near you, so knowing what the clear comfort boundaries are is the first step. :)

    • @fortnitedashhyz6678
      @fortnitedashhyz6678 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sara duff I recommend you to take them out twice a day and letting them do whatever they want until they come to you and once they come to you , you should give them treats and always talk to them in a gentle and calm voice and try to not give a reaction when they bite just lift your hand away from them until the let you pet them.
      I also recommend you to visit your local vetitarian if none of my tips work because maybe theres something wrong with them, also take them out and PLAY with them daily because Indian ringneck parrots tend to be very energetic and playful also don’t pet them too often therefore that can lead to biting you if you don’t pet them as much petting you did yesterday or the day before.😊
      Hope this helped and good luck buddy.
