We are reminded of how many amazing melodies we have forgotten.. to quote Homer Simpson " Every time I learn something new, it pushes out something old I knew"
@@simonmaskell365 Tracey Ullman doing ''Breakaway'' on TOTP was a classic example of that. Apparently US TV stations wouldn't show that - they didn't like the ''obviously miming'' thing.
I was 11 years old when it was released and I remember having a kind of melancholy feeling while listening to this song, although I didn't have the life experience of sad things yet. After spending some time abroad a couple of years later, away from the girl I was in love with at that time, the word "airport" gained a profound meaning for me.
totally agree with you, grew up with similar thoughts. Losing my grandad (& best friend) at 12 introduced me to the ‘real world’😢 experiences with girls also made me relate to certain words/songs.
These guys were already pro's as punk hit........and rode that coattails all the way, such talent, musically diverse and they do it with ease, great songs from solid musicians.
Partir, c'est mourir un peu ... i was 13 at that time and bought the 45. Always loved this song since then. Felt this melancholy when taking off so many times. Too often, sometimes, I should have stayed
They appeared several times on TOTP in 1978. It's worth checking out the other appearance here on TH-cam. The guitarist, Bram Tchaikovsky is wearing a Luftwaffe uniform!!!
Have that one too but I just upload the shows that have not been repeated as most of them are on YT but that's a great performance as well, glad you enjoyed my upload.
Cute comment! Actually, listening to it it’s not THAT evident what the exact words were/are! I’m sure your friend knows by now😊. Wishing you both well😊!
Big guy at the front. Gets my vote everytime. Just living for the moment and not giving a fk what anybody else thinks. That how you live a perfect life
Wow, I don't think these guys got any exposure in the states. I never heard this when I was 12 anyway. This tune sounds like it was produced by Jeff Lynne.
Ohh, some of us knew ‘Motors quite well in the day… but, yes, they were very obscure in the US. That was part of the attraction! You should check out the whole album, Tenement Steps. Forget About You is another great record… Looked up this song to play on the birthday of the dear departed friend who turned me on to The Motors. RIP Bester 💗
Was their lead singer/keyboard player ill and they got a dep in from another band? He's dressed so different to the other 3. It's like he's clinging on to punk but the others have already moved on to new romantic (3 years early!) Top tune though. 👍
Andy was (is) a Glaswegian from the rufty tufty Calton district near to the Barrowland. I can't imagine him getting away with dressing for the opera round that neighbourhood. 😀
You can be both sad and happy in this song..totally a masterpiece
Get both of those feelings mingled when I listen to this. Taken back to my early teenage days in 1978.

Great song. Still sounds great in 2024.
This song is so under rated ,way ahead of its time , just a beautiful love angst song , with an upbeat.
I absolutely LOVE this song!
Terrific song 🎼👌
C'est surtout un chefs d'œuvre absolu 👍 qui donne envie de faire la valise de foutre le camp loin très loin de cet époque dégueu 👍👍👍
Superb song , brilliant 2 guitarists really enjoying themselves 😄
One of my favorite songs
Das ist ein Geiles Lied ❤❤
This song features the most melancholy bassline of all time. Dare I say, it's beautiful 😭

Back then these guys: lead vocalist plays keyboard/piano and sings

I remember this song, 1978!

Brilliant just brilliant an fantastic memories back in the day. 👏👏👏👏👏👍
Classic 70s tune. Those two on guitars were having their own little party! That's miming for you ...

Guitar and bass

I was in a heavy rock band in 78 and didn't tell the band I bought this track. 😎

Gotta love those magic guitars without cables...
Great song, but cuts my heart out every time.

Great years.
6 years old it was a song that you had too wait for on the wilas and feel the emotional sound of a Bloke that lost his first love

A friend of mine took a LOT of persuading that the band were singing "Airport" and not "eff off"!

It was produced by "Mutt" Lange. He also produced AC/DC's Back in Black.
@@damianmcdonagh7908 No, Mutt only produced their debut album. This one was self-produced.

My mum used to think they were singing f..off lol. Great song though.
Is the guitar the 12 string Vox ?

Bram is cute ❤
une ambiance a la Enolagay de OMD
Bram was taking the piss wasn't he....
BLT
No one took it serious. Butit helped most sell Records.
BBC yes just look at that dirty DJ squeezing that girl against him
He paid the price ....he's square with the house.
The bass player and that tall guitarist were probably half pissed or stoned - loved their performance - great song by the way😁😁😁😁😁😁 way!!
