The moves look good only because they're in unison, but anything can look good in that manner. Real hip hop dancers can be seen at competitions like World of Dance and Hip Hop International.

The ICU does not represent todays modern hip hop world accurately, but you cannot really blame them. It's the TEAMS that bring these routines to the competition. If you look at some of the dances in HHI and WOD, you could not even COMPARE them to these dances.

Rah L. Did you happen to see America's Got Talent 7/21/15 and the DM Nation (WOD 2014 Winners)? Take a look at their costume style and see if think "it's not hip hop". You seem to have a very narrow view of what music and costuming you think defines Hip Hop. What makes many performances unique and creative is when groups DO go outside the box and use unexpected costuming and cross genres with music choice. Teams at WOD and HHI do this all the time performing to rock, country, 60's music, Broadway...unexpected choices for variety and effect. Every event/competition has a different score sheet, different requirements and different expectations from the judges. Smart groups work to succeed at their particular event, which clearly this group did. You would probably never hear of the University of Cincinnati placing at WOD or HHI because they are not a COLLEGE dance team and most college programs do not compete at those events. Also to note, most of these sets at the ICU (and college nationals) event are choreographed by hip hop professionals that work with Monsters Of HH, choreograph for crews that compete at WOD/HHI/Body Rock and are highly regarded in the industry so you might want to consider this when making statements that their work is not "real hip hop". Everyone has there own opinion but dance should be about encouragement, praise, sharing a love of the craft and supporting each other as artists and athletes.
