Thank you!!! Excellent instruction. I followed along with Access open, and it worked perfectly. You did a good deed for the day and didn't even realize it!
Long time ago I learned Access 2000. And THAT had a lot of stuff in it. Took me a few years to learn about 3/4 of the things it could do (self-taught), so I imagine 2016 has a ton more. I actually loved learning how to create a database. It also showed me all about forms and how to design them, and how to create drop-down menus, dialog boxes, links, shape and move objects around, hover tips, create parameters in form fields....amazing stuff.
Thanks for making this. I especially appreciate your concern for consistency and use of precise language, critical for technical instruction. Well done and thanks again.
To re-size all field names at once, first select the entire table by clicking the very top left cell. Then double click in between any of the field name cells and the table will re-size all fields to fit the names. No need to manually drag the cells.
Thank you so much! I am learning Access to help make sense out of my chaos and the books I have don't seem to get down to basics! I was so frustrated thinking, "HOW DO I ADD ACTUAL INFORMATION to the database???!!!" You gave me just what I needed. I've taken notes (because I know I'll forget) on my ipad as you're instructing and getting ready to head to your second video. Again, thank you!!!!!!!

Quick question. When linking a another table to another. And then you change the values example delete an associate, would a ticket which you made before delete the associate’s name that created the ticket?
this is the first time I have used and seen it explained this and its great I am splitting a 200.000 row database in to separated tables and this method suits best (thankyou)
I am trying to make a Database for partnumbers. And right now I have a form for each table. And I was wondering if I could use one form for all tables? The part numbers have a format of 88-XXXX to 106-XXXX and I want to have the first two-three digit number assign where the part number goes in the tables.
In access the formulas or the computations refers to the enter columns, not specific cells(fields). You can only use Col A plus Col B. In excel you can input formula in a single cell in which the components are located in a different row. ex: in cell A1=B1 + B2 or A1 = C2 + B3. If you copy cell A1 and paste it on cell range A1 to A10, this will paste the formula to each cell from A1 to A10 with each cell's related components in the formula. Is this possible in access?

If you have a database object open such as a query that is linked to the table you will get that error. Although I don't think I had covered those yet in this video. Some object might just need to be closed. In the words of Roy "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"
Thank you so much for these videos. I am in the Air Force and though they supply us with the whole Office Professional with all of these shiny tools, we are never trained and stuck using excel for everything we do. I have three queries to give me 3 values. The 3 values are the count of basically 3 count-ifs statements. What I need to be able to do is to use these 3 values at the same time so that i can do math with them. ie % of tasks completed, etc... Do you know a way? Right now, I use these queries to get the data, then use excel to manipulate it, but I feel like I should be able to automate it. This is important because I am the only one in my shop that understands what is going on with the database right now and I need to dumb it down to press and button and it gives you the answer for the rest of my shop. Thanks again.
kindly need v important issue it is ok to pay for it my problem is i need to calculate the cost of one item by making a relation between the master item table & the Bell of material table (product tree) till now there is no problem but the problem arise when the tree contain one or two intermediate items ( other item have its separate component which should be calculated separately at first then add the result to the main item which include that item For example we calculate the rice cost which has sauce added on the recipe her we cannot make the calculation unless we make the calculations to have the sauce cost ) if you have a way to solve this programming issue i will be v grateful to you - need a way to run the sub item calculations to be added in the same time. Am i clarify what i need ???
Yes, it is considered a best practice to not use spaces. Spaces could potentially cause problems if you start using VB code and add other more complex functionality that has to refer to the field or table names.
Sorry, not sure what you mean by "random". All entries are intentional. If you mean how to populate a database with data for testing purposes, there really isn't a great way.
@@designanddeploy5991 am asking d random numbers.. Like just for practice d database entry.. Like age number fields, salary fields, sold item fields.. Thanks for the videos, do you have one that would help with a vendor database? I want to make a vendor database that is searchable by my staff, but there are so many search options it would be impossible to make a query for every option. For example, I want people to be able to find florists in Los Angeles, CA or search for the whole state of California for florists or search the whole country for florists. We have dozens of vendor types (florists, rental companies, AV companies, etc..) all across the country that I would like to make searchable. I also want the same people that are searching the database to be able to enter new vendors as well. And since these people are not power users, this needs to be an easy process for people to use. Thanks for your time.
You would use a form that would set the criteria for the query. So, in the query, for the state field, for example, you would use a combo box on the form that lists the names of states. In the same query, for business type, for example, another combo box on the form would have a listing of vendor types. This would allow you to mix and match. So, to make this all work you need to have a master table of all vendors that the query is checking. th-cam.com/video/Vg5f4HbNMAU/w-d-xo.html
You buy a better headset/microphone, which I did and I mention in the description. Starting in part 3 the audio is much better. Also, I started a whole new series with better audio. Search for Lessons for Students on my channel, I start from scratch.
Basically, I am trying to revolve my IA around making a database on Access. The database has to contain 10 students let's say and the database has to contain slots where they can put in the classes they have taken, the credits they've earned, and the database has to somehow let them know if they are on track to graduate and if they have the right amount of credits in the right classes. Let me know how I could execute this plan.
Bunch of ways this can be done. One way would be to have a table that contains those requirements the students need and you would run a query that compares what they have taken (those values would be in a student table)versus the values in that requirement table. The query results could be displayed in a report. One column shows the requirements, the other table shows what the student has taken.

Glad the vids are helping. Since I work full time I typically don't offer tech support as it tends to be an open ended commitment. However, if there is something in particular you would like to see I certainly can make a custom video. So if there is some function you would like to see I can make a video that demonstrates that.

Can I copy this to my hard disk and use it? I took a peek at it and it tells about a Welcome misspelling and messing up macros. I'm a volunteer at a Veterans Support Group here in town and wonder if this can be modified to accommodate our vets. Do you offer any technical assistance and for a fee? I might need some help as I go along. Thank you for the great work you do for all of us. Chuck Sotis
Glad the vids are helping. Since I work full time I typically don't offer tech support as it tends to be an open ended commitment. However, if there is something in particular you would like to see I certainly can make a custom video. So if there is some function you would like to see I can make a video that demonstrates that.
Can I Connect The data to a JavaScript client?
