      Serious question. I currently line up to my pivot point. Lift to the estimated height needed. Then turn to square up with the bay. Untilt and extend to drop off. Is that wrong? I genuinely don’t know and would like to learn. Should I square up and then raise?

    • @KevinHollisWI
      @KevinHollisWI 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kaine1715 it depends on the width of the aisle you are in. If it is not wide enough to square up straight, then raising up and turning in mid air would be correct if done safely. At my job, some aisles are tight so I have to enter pallet at an angle and push pallet in so pallet goes in both forward and right at same time.

      @@hakeemsd70m turning the forklift shifts your center of mass. And having raised cargo raises your center of mass. If you have a decent load. And you rip it around a turn to be "fast" you very well might end up with a forklift on its side, a load crashed into the ground. Or more likely, and much more dangerous a load/forks hitting the shelfing and the entire row collapsing quite likely burying you if not outright killing you. It's the job with the most fatalities apart from farming, and it's because people like this either don't listen to the safety rules based on physics, or were never thought them. Sure, with a reach truck, on a flat surface it's not that likely to tip even with raised load. But you're tempting fate, and most importantly building bad habits.

    Turning with forks or a pallet in the air isn't the world best forklift operator. Its dangerous and can tip the truck over. I'm a forklift operator of 9 years experience on the counterbalance, 2 years combilift and now 5 months on the reach truck and I'm not that stupid at doing that dangerous manoeuvre. If that was seen by my managers in my work place you will get taken off the truck immediately and banned for at least a month and have to take a retest. Cutting corners like that isn't amusing at all, speed isn't everything. Safely matters in a workplace.

      Its worrying how many people are commenting that this is fine to do! This exact act is the leading cause of fatal forklift accidents in the uk! I move metal stillages filled with tyres weighting up to 1.4ton to heights up to 10m, id rather save my life than save 5seconds turning while raising

    I totally get that in the real world we don't drive to test conditions, but as a job resume the driving standards displayed here are shocking. Anyone seen driving like that would be instantly dismissed at my work place, and if you were on a test you would fail. Most dangerous point is turning in the air with a raised load. But numerous other points use of hydraulics whilst driving, lack of hand brake, lack of proper observations, the first pallet put i the racking is not in square, traveling with the forks extended when moving the double stacked pallets, putting a pallet into the racking before squaring up risking damage to racking. As I say this would lead to instant dismissal where I work and to top it of the pace at which you was operating was only average. This could easily be used in training as how not to drive and is unlikely to get you a job with any company that cares about health and safety, truely shocking.

    Good job man. Don't let any of these big mouth alpha male keyboard warriors talk you down about their small pen.. I mean small aisle. And their 60+ an hour. They don't even turn with load.. Literally everyone at my work turns and lifts same time with load. It's hella faster. And if your employee doesn't care about speed, even better for you. You do you 👌

    • @hakeemsd70m
      @hakeemsd70m 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One hundred percent correct! I've been a reach truck operator for seven months, and like y'all, everyone at my job turns with their load in the air. It's all about efficiency, and even more so since we got 39 dock doors. My bosses don't care at all. Hell, a couple of the senior guys will fly through the warehouse at top speed on the sit downs. Once again, bosses don't care. We always get our work done.

    i have respect for any stand-up operator (as long as they are not idiots) but this dude wouldn't work for caterpillar (where i work) first he is slow and you never lift and turn at the same time, his license would be pulled, people think it is faster to do it but it only adds time
