Love this game, my game group made a house rule for Frodo: he can only be targeted from turn 10+. This was a great narrative towards the end of the game for both players.
@@tabletopskirmishgames I'd like a casual game like this but with more then 1 scenario ... is there good 1vs1 skirmish game that you dont have to build 200 minis army to play and is ready out of the box like this one ? thanks
Played this game for the first time after watching this excellent run-through of the rules. I especially love the very pedagogical physical signs! Thanks a lot.
I really like the minis! While the mechanics don't really appeal to me as much as the other GW boxed games (like Blitz Bowl or Space Marine Adventures), it might be cool to use these high quality minis of the Shire for War of the Ring
Fun little game I thought. My mate was laughing that it was the "cursed timeline" as everyone died except Gandalf, Frodo and Legolas. We made some basic AI in that the goblins tried to attack in packs against the most vulnerable targets within sight. We also made the troll attack the last person that attacked him or whoever was closest
Thanks for the video. I love LOTR and this was one of my favorite scenes in both the book and the film. I really want to play it solo so thanks for addressing that. Any more insights on that would be greatly appreciated. I am a little nervous about assembling the models as that is something I have never done and wish they were already assembled
Thanks for watching! The miniatures are very easy to build and some of them come in one piece with no assembly necessary. If you haven't assembled models before, this would be a brilliant set to start with. The Troll has the most parts but as it's quite big, it's a good one to try out snipping and tidying up the mould lines with.
If people complain about Frodo being defeated as a tie remember that is what happened in the book. With the fellowship being delayed to tend to him long enough for the balrog to arrive. A win can be interpreted as the fellowship leaving fast enough to avoid the fight with the Balrog and Gandalf thus not dying in his battle with the Balrog.
Are the miniatures push fit or do I need polystyrene cement? The Trolls arms look like they were separate from the body. I enjoyed your video. You are very good at explaining the rules clearly and concisely. I love your warcry battle reports as well by the way.
Thanks, Nathan! You will need some glue but some of the models are complete. In the unboxing video you can see them on the sprues here … th-cam.com/video/F7pHBRbAElY/w-d-xo.html
I've got a load of awesome Northumbrian Tin Soldier Goblin minis to use for a wave attack mode so some solo rules would be great for them. Coming soon!
I’m sure they are the same just cast in a different colour. I was really happy with them and great job getting it for £35, I think that’s cool for all the minis
i have question on board you have stairs so you can go upstairs on platform where you have trap door etc my question is if any hero/goblin are on platform can some attack them from below if yes it will kill little tactics ? because rules say you can attack any adjencent model right so its little confusing
It doesn't say anything about that in the rules so I'm playing it as regular squares to move on with no special rules. You could house rules it, though.
I'd like a casual game like this but with more then 1 scenario ... is there good 1vs1 skirmish game that you dont have to build 200 minis army to play and is ready out of the box like this one ? thanks
That's a good question. I can't think of anything else I've played that is a quick skirmish with ready built minis and simple rules. Miniature agnostic games are good, though. Grab a book, minis you like and you are good to go.
@@tabletopskirmishgames i play dnd solo and rangers too ... but I was looking like a war cry game with all included in the box that you can play quick like this ... something similar in boardgames you think ?

Blue is used by the Fellowship and red is used by the Goblins. The Red are different because they have 1 blank side, the eye of Sauron, and a different sword and shield. I guess the blank side help to make the stats work.
Hello, do you know where to find the rules for Lord of the Rings: Battle in Balin's Tomb online? I would like to play have the models, but do not have the proper rules. Thank you
That was my first question and you answered immediately, what happens if Frodo gets killed before the end? You’re playing for a draw at that point. I definitely see how the rule fits thematically, but I would come up with a house rule of some kind or just toss that rule out.

That's great to hear, thank you. Have fun playing the game!
Great review, thank you! The visualisation was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent review! I like the thought of using a completed Challenge as an optional tie-breaking condition.
Thank you! That's a really great idea and would be a great motivation to keep playing, nice one!

your pronunciation of Balin and Sauron just hurt my soul. Apart from that this is a very informative video. Thanks for clearing some things up for me.
🤣 I do pronounce a lot of names wrong, especially the 40k characters. Glad it was helpful 👊

Nice one! Great ideas for the AI and that fits the Troll narrative for sure.
Nice and simple! I think I'm going to buy the set

Just bought this set for 35 quid on wayland games, looks a good little set, are the minis the same quality as normal GW ones?

It can be used with old Balin’s Tomb terrain?
The squares are 1 inch so if that fits the dimensions of the pillars then that would look awesome in the board.

Not specifically for this game, but for Weekend Warriors which can be used with this box contents.

Looks very simplistic. How’s the balance?
And adding achievements to a game seems silly and meaningless.
