My mare is the same from trot to walk she does not like to walk. I put her into shoulder fore in the transition and keep her in it in the walk. It has helped a lot. I have also discovered if I start in canter she’s so much happier

Just came across your videos and they are so helpful! Especially for sensitive horses like your mare, she does not look easy at all and my youngster is showing some hotness tendencies.. so this is very helpful!
Thank you so much, your tutorials are extremely useful and helpful. I am grateful for your information on patience and focus and the fact that not everything has to be perfect. In our case our mare is extremely dominant and is challenging for her to remain focused, now after watching your warm up video, we are learning to be more patient and calm, hopefully this will result in a better experience for both rider and horse. I was also pleased to see how important it is for the rider to stay focused and not worry about what is going on outside of the riding moment. Once again thank you and your team.

Deze tips zijn zeker fijn. Zeker ook omdat het visueel is en ik de video's een paar keer kan bekijken om alles echt goed te laten beklijven. Deze tips in combinatie met mijn eigen trainingen zorgen ervoor dat ik mijn communicatie met mijn paard sneller en beter voor elkaar heb. Ik kan nu de aanwijzingen van mijn eigen trainer nog beter plaatsen. Goed voorbeeld doet goed volgen. Mijn merrie heeft dezelfde aanwijzingen als jouw merrie nodig. Zij anticipeert ook heel snel op wat komen gaat en wachten is daarmee voor haar heel lastig. Dat extra stukje kennis vanuit deze video is een enorme hulp om met Himalaya beter te werken.
Wat een fijn paard zeg! En mooi om te zien dat ruiter en paard goed op elkaar ingespeeld zijn en elkaar goed aanvoelen. Goede kwaliteit van de video ook!

ja dit is een geweldige toevoeging van jullie kanaal hoor Tommie, ik vind het gewoon heel interessant om te zien hoe jij en je paard dat allemaal doen en dan mag het misschien in jou ogen niet perfect zijn,het is toch heel erg knap om een paard dit uberhaupt te leren, en om te zien wat een tijd er in gaat zitten om het helemaal goed te krijchen, en dan bessef ik toch dat er wel jaren overheen gaan, en juist toch ook intersant om te zien als het niet goed gaat en hoe je dat verbeterd, daar gaat het toch allemaal om. ja ik kan hier echt van gennieten om te zien, dank je wel, voor weer een hele goeie uitleg en video.

I have a lazy friesian, it is good to see that “hot” horses can get behind the leg and the transition work is so beneficial for both.
Ze doet haar naam eer aan: wat een (fijne) fanatieke dame. Zeer fijn gereden/getraind. Tommie, je bent een fijngevoelige symphatieke ruiter. Heel leerzaam 👌👍

Zeer interessant :) Ik vind het meer interessant als het niet perfect is, en zelf als het moeilijk is, dan leer je veel meer en zie je echt hoe je de dingen kan verbeteren. In een training video waar het paard alles al proper doet, leer je eigenlijk niet veel... bedankt ! Fanatique verdient echt haar naam denk ik ;-)
Goed om te horen daarom probeer ik ook juist een paard te pakken waarbij het idd nog niet helemaal goed gaat 😊 graag gedaan ☺️

Yes, I usually say that the horse “is made” in the transitions. Why? Because that is where you program the buttons of the horse. Think of it, every transition is an instruction and education is made of programming instructions. Great video, thank you.

You are amazing on how u definite and describe the movements and actions of both the horse and the rider and brake it down were it is actually understandable and relatable in young and gp horses
I ride young horses at low levels and also rode move advanced horses through the movements and u make the connection easy to understand from young horse to piaffe and passage !
And Iv traveled from Uk , Australia , to America and even Portugal and trained on advanced horses but the connection from young to advanced and understanding is missed.., ( I believe it’s feel ) and u help so much just how u explain with certain things that help to understand the next expectation or movements/ felling from ether horses or rider

Do you ever work your upper level horses in a snaffle as opposed to the double bridle? And if so, what type of snaffle do you prefer?

This question is not connected ro the Video but it is an equestrian question:
I have moved from Vancouver to Germany to work as a trainer. 30 years ago I had a German trainer in Vancouver and he would never have allowed draw reigns. My realization since the past three years here in Germany is that draw reigns are used all tbe time. I find this so shocking. So many horses backs hollow and horses ridden tightly without give behind the vertical. I was wondering if you noticed this trend also in.your travels if you have spent some time in Germany? I wondered if you have any idea why there is a trend to leave the classical training and use such devices. I love watching both of you ride and you explain everything so well I have learned so much. I am so glad you never do any roll kur. My best teacher in Canada was from Holland Mr. Glign. I hope to find a place as a working student in a stable that does not believe that it is okay to use draw reigns. Thank you for your videos. I have sent a link.to all my equestrian friends.

Using draw reigns can be horrific when used incorrectly and Yes you see this a lot, but on the other hand it can also be helpful to use for a short period of time. When you use it correctly the horses are not hollow in the back.
Heb je misschien tips voor het oefenen van overgangen en het actief houden van het achterbeen? Mijn 4-jarige Appaloosa kruising vind het moeilijk actief te blijven, dus ik stop er heel veel energie in en krijg maar een klein beetje terug 😅 Voor de rest is ze best goed aan het been, maar ze valt snel terug in het tempo, heb je daar ook misschien een tip voor? 😊 Het zijn trouwens echt super leuke en leerzame video’s om naar te kijken!! 🤩
Wat ik altijd probeer dan juist veel voorwaarts te rijden! En dan totdat je paard het voorwaarts ‘overneemt ‘ zodat je geen been meer nodig hebt voordat je dan weer een overgang terug maakt 🤪
When doyou start them in double bridles? I watched another video with a 4 yo mare and I think she had one too.
What would happen if you would completely let go of the reins? Would she speed up or stay at the same tempo you asked from her?
If you watch the previous how to you can see that my goal is to not let her run away when I let go of the reins 🙃
Is it a requirement to use a double bridle in the higher levels of dressage?
On international level in the GP, its obligated. On Small Tour level, most of the riders do it because your aid can be smaller / more refined
If the prep for transitions is the foundation in which the horse builds towards GP, why then does the horse know how to execute the upper levels when it has not mastered the lower levels?
When I do transitions canter walk or walk canter my horse has been nervous and he doesn't do correct walk...how can I learn him to be more relaxed in walk?
Difficult to tell here when not seeing your horse. All situations are different but most of the time the horses need to understand to relax in being relly active. Good luck 🍀
Nu heb je een paard dat erg voorwaarts is maar wat als je paard niet zo voorwaarts denkt wat is dan het beste om te doen .
Wij proberen dan toch eerst het paard te leren goed voorwaarts te denken. Vergeet de aanleuning en rijd bijv lekker voorwaarts in galop net als op de renbaan haha tot je paard ‘vanzelf’ voorwaarts blijft gaan
