Boy does this bring back memories. My first car was a red and white 59. Bought it with my paper route money when I was 14. I owned a car 2 years before I could legally drive. But drive it I did. I got out of school before dad got off work, and I would sneak out and drive it around the neighborhood. I never did get caught. I'm 64 now, and remember that car like it was yesterday. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
When I was a kid I thought this was one off the most incredable looking cars. This fantastic transformation makes it so cool. Great skill at work here.
This is the dream for me. Grew up with Mets. My grandparents had 3 over the years. I’ve always wanted one that was “modernized” like this. Great work. Beautiful car
I have a yellow and white one that was my granddads, he got it when I was three and he has been gone for over twenty years now and I am now 48 and I will NEVER part with the car, it’s bone stock and has just over 50 thousand miles and makes me smile every time I drive “MITZI” great job with the build!!
Thank you so much for posting this! I've been racking my brain on how to make these cars faster. I'm 21 and I want to daily one of these cars once I leave college but that'll be nearly impossible in Central Texas where everybody is doing at least 60 on the big roads and these Metros seemingly lose steam by that point. Great to see someone out there changed the engine out to make driving these cars more doable!

Just remember these cars are becoming increasingly rare and non-original cars lose most of their value.

An amazing job. My two favourite features are the side-opening hood and the headlamp surrounds. The tail lights are pretty neat too. It would be interesting to have some detailed information on how you achieved these modifications.
That was just fantastic. Finest Met there will ever be. Not only do you have the skills, more importantly, you have the vision. I've taken many an old car and made them reliable and safe to drive for my wife, but this, you have completely transformed. Just wow, from someone who realizes how much work and thought and time went into this.
Thanks so much for sharing this journey! I absolutely love your style. Original design on the surface, and modern mechanics to make it enjoyable. Enjoy the memories you have created for your family!
No DOUBT THE NICEST METRO EVER MADE !!!. I was going to show this to my wife as she has always wanted on and I did promise to someday get her one.. and I will .... but I can't show her what could be done to it..... You are very skilled and did a GREAT JOB ON THE MET !!!
Nicely done! I have a Met I found on a property of a friend's that needs a lot of work, but should be driveable w/ minimal effort, i.e., carb rebuild, brake check/rebuild and the like. Funky little cars. Should be a fun winter project.
Freakin' gorgeous engineering. Around 1962, a Dallas racer named Jack Simon ran a Metro with a Latham blower atop a SBC. I saw the car at Green Valley, where he put on quite a show. The scream of that axial blower really got attention.
People use to joke and laugh about these cars back in the day. After seeing this video nobody will be laughing now. Everyone will want one. Including me! Beautiful job.
I always loved the look of the metropolitan car I remember every time when we drove by one at a used car lot, yellow with white roof. To my aunt's house; from Vermont to upper state New York, past the Sinclair gas station with green dinosaur in my mom's 59 Buick station wagon. Such a unique car. Thought that it was Soo cool looking. What a great restoration and trip down memory lane.😄
Such an amazing labor of love! See, when I was first hearing about the VW Beetle coming back years ago I was so hoping they would have taken the approach of adding the modifications the originals really needed and not change the body design so much! The consolation to me was being able to fit in to and drive my sister's 2001 Beetle and it was enjoyable enough as being 6'7 I was too tall for the originals!
Love themodificstions, which embrace the ethic of Metropolitans but are exclusive to this car! The curvy side trims, inside and of the doors! Also the twin bullet shaped light lenses!
I once bought a conv.metropolitan out of a tobacco barn and sold it to a guy from the metropolitan club.It had mouse carcasses and a snake skin in the floor.! Dew,in conjunction with acidic tobacco left a film of rust, but suprisingly no rust-thru.We had to remove rough horizontal beams?to get it out! Also had to stuff valve stems in from outside with wd-40 and screwdriver, and keep small gas compressor running continously, since it was in the low 20's. ....Good times!hahaha
It helps that it is a short car with little wheels. There is SOME lack of turning ability, but it is only evident in tight parking spots. Nash thought it streamlined the wheel well opening.
I liked the second version the best. I think the third version went too far. I would have gone for a Toyota 22RE. I love the rear tail lights. You could sell those to Met owners if you reproduced them.
My mother had a Nash Metropolitan in the late '50's, early 60's. It was white and mint green. When the ignition switch broke, my father put in a doorbell switch. I don't know how my mother managed to fit four kids in the Metro.
One of the most enjoyable and fun car stories I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for saving this one! Always loved Metropolitans. They have sooo much character!

Yeah, Matt, you get it. Thanks.
A true master mechanic, at work n play, from a mazda uk, technician. Great work mate

So glad you got this one back better than new they are the cutest cars around😁👍👍👍

So did you do it?

I would say exhaust note is just about right. V6s tend to have a not so pleasing sound. Little bit of rumble...but not ratty. Neat car.
People use to joke and laugh about these cars back in the day. After seeing this video nobody will be laughing now. Everyone will want one. Including me!
Beautiful job.
THE V6 NASH WAS THE FIRST VEHICLE I BOUGHT IN 1897, AND I STILL HAVE IT.
Did you ever upgrade to a new Model T? :-)
@@LawrenceRoss1906, Yes I did. The 1898 model.
I truly admire your effort, skill, & finished(?) product. My first car was a '54 Nash Ambassador (ahem) back-in-the-day.

Love it. I believe you are having way too much fun with this car...
Beautiful build. I'd love to come by for a ride.
Fabulous! Thanks for posting!
How Sweet She Is, wonderful build.

It would have to have airbags, crumple zones and side impact beams to meet safety regulations!
Fantastic. I'm speech less. Absolutely love it.
Wonderful mods: cosmetically sympathetic, I think... As for the drivetrain... WOW!
Thanks
This guy is my hero taking the time and giving this old lady new life ps my dad had one
i like how the side hinged hood was constructed....genius!!
My Dad bought a new one in 1960. Red and White.
Black and white interior.
Love themodificstions, which embrace the ethic of Metropolitans but are exclusive to this car! The curvy side trims, inside and of the doors! Also the twin bullet shaped light lenses!
Thanks a lot! Your observations are exactly what I wanted to do - making a "tweeked" classic. She is Fun!
Love it! Always love something a little different.
I think I saw you driving in Benton Park (st. Louis) a couple of weeks ago. A rena nostalgic gem you have there!
What an awesome car! I might have one someday.

cooool.. looks like something you see during Saturday morning cartoons
Fantastic job! And I'll bet it only weighs a couple of pounds more than the stock drivetrain.
So cool, such a great job, well done!
Just caught this what an absolutely brilliant and awesome job.
Thanks for sharing your build(s)!
She’s beautiful 😎👍
❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️
What a build! My hats off to you!
Great story. Great video. Great car. Just like Susie blue coupe.
What a beautiful little car.
I have only one word to describe this car.... COOL.
Beautiful work
Yeah I’ll come by for that ride .
Awesome build!!
Awesome build!!!🤔👍🏽👍🏽
This is how I want to modify my car however I do want to put a GPS tracker on it and alarm system since it will literally be my little baby haha.
That’s my dream car My dad had a few good one wish I could of had one of his
My father had a “Met”...red and white, too.
Gorgeous. You plussed it!
Great idea restomod!😁🛠️
Nicely done you should let me drive it, I'm legally blind but that's alright, it'll add to the outlawed cool version. 🤪
See the Metro Museum in N. Hollywood. You could build the Jetson car.
The car was built tougher than average when cars were built tough.
But they rust like crazy!
Ha ha - talk about a SLEEPER!!! This is totally awesome.
Penelope in Seattle had one of these..wonder what she's doing now...
I would love to see the car. I live right by Branson Mo.!
What's with the fang-toothed grille at 7:47? It only appears in that one scene.
Oh, just a lark. Some people liked it. It did not really fit style wise.
But I LOVED the fangs, D. Dracula.
Awful!
Love, Love, LOVE this car!!!!!
Yes, BUT are you able to get it out of second gear??
Is a V-8 the next step in this parade?
How in the world did you fit a firebird engine designed for a 60 inch track into the bay of the Metropolitan with a 45 inch wide track?
He modified the strut towers and such
But what does Mike Moffitt think of this?
now all we need to figure out is how to make a removable top for it - lol
I visited this site 2 years ago - I sure hope this little honey is still around - What an engineering feat - bravo!
what a really cute car!
Does it have normal steering radius with those wheel well covers?
It helps that it is a short car with little wheels. There is SOME lack of turning ability, but it is only evident in tight parking spots. Nash thought it streamlined the wheel well opening.
Can a small block V8 fit? From Chevy, Ford, Mopar, or AMC?
Awesome job.
what - no burnout with the V6???
I can appreciate everything you did..amazing mod. But i would have kept it stock
The value is ruined by customizing it.
How did.you light up the medallion?
simple. drilled a hole, popped in a little socket. ( :
Hard to believe Metropolitan went broke and VW survived.
How much faster you can go with the new engine ? In now its not a race car... but i really interested to now. 🖐🏼
0-60 in 8 secs. Decent. Quick off the line.
@@danacalef8406 I just, 3/28/2021. asked the same question, 10 months later than your answer.
Do you still have this car and are you interested in selling? I'm currently in Eureka Springs, AR for a few weeks.
Looks like a kart in Mario Kart, but very nice.
Good job!
Hey, buddy, how can I get this car out of second gear?
I was thinking about that song too. "Beep Beep" by Playmates. I remember hearing that song for the first time. I laughed 'till I hurt!
Wow nice🔥
Marvelous, and not afraid to go completely different in major areas.
Excellent
How long does it take to get to 60?
I see that you answered my question------10 months ago. to quote Lily Tomlin "never mind."
I had one of these a 58 same color
I had a 1961 Metropolitan convertible for 27 years. Sold it 3 years ago do miss it. If you don't like attention this is not the car for you
Its better than letting it go to pot but I would prefer the Austin engine remain.
You are a god!
that is awesomeness!!!!!
Wow! Just...wow.
What area of Missouri are you from? State Fair area here
SW MO, Joplin
@@danacalef4675 Look out, it's a tornado!

but...can it drift?
Amazing!!
Very nice.
Nice!
That has a great whole shot
I have a 59 Met convertable with a V8....
Why stop there, time for a v-8!
👍😎🤗
