@@johnsducks9816 Exactly, I really love the small form factor and the big 4:3 screen with the RG405M. If the t618 on the RP3+ was a surprisingly capable PS2 and GC emulation machine, why wouldn't the t820 be quite a bit better? I saw some benchmark putting this at the Snapdragon 855+ level - which should play most GC and PS2 fine
Maybe I worded it wrong, but yes it should theoretically be quite a bit better than those, but those only worked as well due to the amount of hacks, and Dolphin forks you had to use and all of that. Expect to do a lot of the same here.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds Yes, but for people like me, and perhaps many others who have tinkered with these devices and the various emulator versions for the past two years, its not that big of deal. I think people are just skeptical because there are no devices with this chip available to estimate it's performance. It's not like when the Retroid Pocket 4 was announced and people could estimate its performance by looking at the Odin Lite for the base and the AyaNeo Pocket Air for the Pro. The Odin 2 was the same story because the SD 8 gen 2 was the most powerful mobile ARM CPU for Android at the time; people knew what to expect. Another big part of emulator performance comes down to GPU driver compatibility. So even though the T820 may score higher in benchmarks than the Snapdragon 845 in the Odin 1, the SD 845 may see better emulation performance because it has an Adreno GPU, and Snapdragon GPUs are the most common and most developed for on the market.
Hi Joey, I agree with much of what you said. Let's say that, if Ambernic does its job well, the strong points of this device will be the screen and the build quality. The internal memory is a bit old. The processor should also guarantee PS2, GC and Wii at least 2x in almost all cases. 3DS emulation, where stuttering is clearly visible, is perhaps the most significant aspect of the device's limitations. PSVITA has an emulator that is still in full evolution. Perhaps the arrival of GammaOS (Android 12 at the moment) will make a small positive difference, especially if they simplify the installation process, as they seem to be doing, and if they manage to improve GPU performance
