!!!!! (hope one day they share all de five nights in Winterland 74)
A special song for me. The final time I saw them play it love was pdx 1995 and I was stage front. I will never forget it. I remember thinking I may never hear Jerry live again. I am fortunate to have seen 22 shows from the end of 90 through 95.
Wake of the Flood was my first Dead album!! Though the Dead are
one of the best live bands ever I still love their studio albums
Puts ters in my eyes every time. I miss Jerry so much. I will be with him soon. Love all you dead heads.
Fernando Blaños Charles Hazard on yt has videos with the largest amount of the Winterland 74 shows that I’ve seen if that’s handy
Back in the day, when I was in college, a friend of mine said that the thing about the Dead was that the band members were like waves on a graph, each plotting out a different wave. But every once in a while they would get in sync. And that was the magic.
Amen. I always remember reading in college Relix mag and I always remember one line one of the writers said…
If they ever could get on the same page every night ..
No one would ever want to listen to any other music ..
Well said Sid.
Thats a great way to put it. Bobby plays the magic tune that brings the waves all back to select frequency

I don't care what anyone says and I'm from the south. The grateful dead is America. They are the epitome of true American rock. I can't explain it with much articulation, but if you know, you know.
Like if America had a band to represent them, the voice of what America was, they are it.
Pigtails Jerry makes me so happy!
My thoughts exactly
They returned home soon after for the “From Egypt With Love” shows at Winterland. Stupendously joyful and pure Love. Cheers!
I love this song!!
Okie, you can find him anywhere that grate music can be found! Cheers buddy.
2nd that notion⚡❤
Thank you. Can’t get enough Grateful Dead right now.
Never knew Billy had a broken hand for these shows. Keeping time with one hand.
Who the F would downvote the Grateful Dead? 🙄
Rock out, boys! I love 1978 Dead shows!
My thoughts exactly. There's always one😑 NFA💀🌹⚡
maybe for the video quality?
@@Pearls_Have_Eyes maybe for Bobby's terrible slide tone.......he is such a good guitarist but I always cringe at his slide playing. But that's just my opinion. Otherwise I really dig this version.
I certainly wouldn't!
I have truly loved the Grateful Dead probably most of my life!
Lot of people, they're not for everybody. As Jerry himself said, they're like licorice, not everybody likes it but those who do REALLY like it. I've tried playing the Dead for a lot of people over the years and they often hate it or just find it boring.
Good shot of Bill playing one handed with the other in a cast
This is where having two drummers is really handy. No pun intended
I believe he fell off a horse just prior to Egypt.
@@bwadoom Great show. Wow check out Jerry's brother......th-cam.com/video/2KnaKjwiT3A/w-d-xo.html

and he still would have held a tighter beat than with both of them!!!
On this very day I was opening presents and blowing out 4 candles on my birthday cake
Happy Birthday Lumpy!!!.... here... have some cake 🍰... a lil Jerry🎸🎤🐻... the Dead 💀🌷🐢⚡... and a few surprises too🔥🎼🎶🌈
@@krissantos6624 haha..thank you very much..but I meant it was my 4th birthday..9/16/74 is my date of birth!!
Right on .. l turned 13on that day ... Didn't know of the Dead yet... 1984was my first show .. it was awesome .. my all-time favorite band... From that day on..😋
I'm so happy
1978 the last year the Grateful Dead took their time and let the music really breath.... No rushed...
Right! The best years 72 - 78...
Yeah the influence changed from hash and .... to coke and ....
We used to play for doses
Now we play for lines .
I was in Giza in February 1979. I was only 11 at the time. Someone at the hotel asked if I knew anything about the American rock band that had recently played at The Pyramids. I had no clue at the time. Years later walking around the lot I saw something about the Egypt shows and knew instantly the answer to that question so many years prior. These are the shows I really wish I had seen.
Been a fan of this wonderful music for over 35 years and am always amazed how it sounds fresh and current whenever I hear it today..🙏❤️
I have reached my half century and have been listening to rock for well over half of that time........18 months ago I finally got into the 'Dead after ignoring them for decades.
They have changed my view of what is possible in rock music, especially Jerry and Phil.
Jerry Garcia saw wide musical vistas when most other guitarists were fumbling for their glasses.....
PLEASE RELEASE THE WHOLE VIDEO!!!!! I KNOW ITS OUT THERE. I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!
👽♥️🌿
They did. It’s on the deluxe Egypt box I believe
doctorwhom420 cool!
They did this show as a Shakedown Street concert during CoVid. It was so fun.
New age dead head here. Today is the day I converted over. Im heavy into rap/hip hop but I feel magnetized to the dead. Their sound is so organic. Change is coming 👁️
Welcome on the bus! A couple shows to check out if you want 11/14/73, 4/8/72, 5/2/70
Oh and check out Relisten it’s an app where you can listen to pretty much any of their shows for free
Welcome friend. The good news is. We like rap and hip hop too. You can keep the stuff you already love and still be a head!
We don’t need you
@@dylanstokes913 speak for yourself, bud.
Agree, one of the great versions. That slow build, great vocal and harmonies, Weir, Phil very tasty, and Keith coming on towards the end, and that slow chugging buildup throughout to the end. Great way to start my day !
The music that soothes the spirit of the Dead
Howdy Hashbury! You speak the truth! 😀
What a show that must have been. I get chills just watching the video of it, imagine having been there WAAAAAAHOOOOOOO
🌌✨😯🔥💨💨💨😏😎🌈🕺💃🐻💀🌹👏👏👏🤔👍✌
There is so much excellent American music but this just embodies all of that spirit. Grateful Dead forever.
These lyrics are so open to subjective interpretation. One of Hunter's best!
Another gem!
Egypt!!! Come back home boys! We miss you ❤️
We're sure blessed to have this vid, and I was so blessed being there. A precious memory...
Yours is the kind of comment that compels me to scroll through the comments on TH-cam.
Row Jimmy !! Jerry loved these slow to mid tempo songs of his and Hunter's. Stella Blue.. and " It Must Have Been The Roses" were so epic to hear old Jer bear play with the boys.. and from Egypt no less.. I hear Dan Healy's sound board work on this one as well ! JT
One of my favorites!
ROW JIMMY ROW.
LOVE THEIR MUSIC SO MUCH.
Such an awesome song!!!!!!! Perfect!!!!!
That Egypt trip was bangers all the way through
This whole show is so good and worth the watch. The band seemed to be in a really good place at this point and really jiving.
RIP Jerry, Ron, Keith, Brent. Thanks thanks thanks. loooooooooooove listening still, so sad you're gone and hope to see ya on the otherside walking on the moon and rowing.
Anyone here make it to these shows? What a long strange trip that would have been✌☮🇪🇬
I needed this today!
Just when I needed something ☮️❤️
!!!!! (hope one day they share all de five nights in Winterland 74)
This is a really nice high quality recording of a great version. I saw them play this live a number of times in the 80s and 90s but i don't recall Bobby playing slide then. His slide playing on this version really stands out.
Love seeing Jer so happy.
This is a great rendition. Thank you
For seven days a week I wait for these videos. Love it!
Thabks!!
My favorite version
Thank you kindly! The sound with the video is the best! Love it!
In front of a wonder.
This is such a good song
I hate to say it I used to skip this song for a couple years when I was getting into the dead, just because it felt so slow. But right now it’s one of my favorites
The Dead are funny that way; There’s songs you don’t really care for until you find the “right” version and it all clicks
Great music!!👍👍
Awesome recording. Wow.
beautiful
Indeed!
For Phil Lesh. Godspeed and safe journey.
That mix is perfect
Make Egypt Grate Again
Wonderful music. I keep coming back to listening to the Grateful Dead.
best song ever
such a common way to go
Sweet version. Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful version! Thanks for posting
Epic❤
Wanted to go to Egypt for this show so badly at the time. I was 18yrs old.
Just couldn’t make it happen. Oh well... might as well...
this is incredible
I love this
Just too good.
I’m not crying you are! Lol
My favorite!
Loved it since I got my 1st copy of "Wake of the Flood"
Please release rocking the cradle on vinyl!!!! I already have the vinyl boot but need that good quality!!
Damn this is great. Never got around to the Egypt shows before but I guess I'll need to.
they sound great. it was a good year for them in 1978. i know the dead always said they did not play good in Egypt, but I must disagree. i think the shows in Egypt 09/14,15,16/78- Son Et Lumiere Theater - Giza, Egypt deserves another listen or viewing. i could be wrong but did hear some of the tapes got messed up audio, video, or both, but if what is available and did survive sounds as good as this, row jimmy, they are in their element at an incredibly special place.
Thanks

Passaic 11 78 featured a live slide show including jerry on a camal amongst other things. Donna g saved a show jerry called similar to Woodstock on nyc radio. Great row Jimmy fo sho.
Bobby on the slide!

At home with the flu and the Dead!!! 🌹❤️💀 Great!
one of the best songs ever??
There are few songs/performances I enjoy as much as this one.
So Cool, Jerry in pig tails.
My favorite hunter lyrics
Row your boat gently down the stream. Meraly meraly life is but a dream. Remember Jerry and gang trading cards. Love u all blessings and miracles for all.
Broken heart dont feel so bad...
i just stopped the clip... that image of the Dead and the Sphynx for sure means something we still cannot understand

My only quibble with this version is Jerry should have taken the slide solo. Bobby’s slide work was always a good background effect
Quibble away. When you're done, enjoy
When did you ever see jerry play slide? (Not counting pedal steel)

The Pharaohs smiled ⚡️✌️💀
Is it true that the sounds first emerged in King's Chamber for acoustical seasoning before reaching the tapes?
I remember reading in "A Long Strange Trip" that they tried to run a wire to the King's Chamber but it was too far/they ran out of wire.
Rip Jerry Garcia and Bill Walton
Hell yeah, awesome take:)
Crazy to see bill playing with one arm.
If anyone is intrested I've just recently started putting some dead covers up on my channel (only If you are interested of course... 😁)
Peace and love Dead Heads 🤟💀💝✌
