    Jungle is the sound I heard in my head as a child in the 70’s. When I heard it in the 90’s it was like taking that first hit! Been chasing the dragon ever since! I wanted to go to London so freaking bad in those days to be with my Jungle brethren, cuz this was not a sound the hood welcomed in, I felt like an outcast. State side Junglist for life!!! Amen(Break)

    After having listened to Jungle/DnB more or less exclusively since circa 1997 over here in the states, this documentary helped piece together the bits of the foundation I wasn't aware of at the time. Always had to appreciate the UK and europe in general for providing the soundtrack to my life thus far. Big up to all the massive still pushing both the old sounds and the sounds yet to come. Refreshing $ exactly what I took/FELT from it. loved the humility haven't seen that across the pond I can't even remember last time I saw it. Especially tateside poli-tricks of the scene are redic., cruel & detrimental. Pisses me off bc inturn Just cause he's your boy & sucks instead of giving the slots to talented Dj's (remember that alone is an alone Dj'ing is a true artform ppl forget) Pardon sober cheese brain. I'm sick of hearing your shitty boy all the time in good slots torture my ears till I wanna go up and unplug the system mics etc. Also Producers that only play only their music equivalent that most of the time aknye only listens to his on.

    For someone who's more into the current hardcore and gabba, Hardstyle, hard house, etc, but whose appreciation for Jungle & DnB has grown significantly over the last couple years, videos like this are invaluable. I would always have my grandmother grab Hardcorec CD's when she wwould go to Britain (we're from Canada) and every now and then she would bring back a DnB mix series or some shit as well - and the boom of TH-cam in the 2010's really helped my exposure to the music - but I still never really got big into the history of the music. I know the basics and its initial evolution because of the splintering from HC and knowing that history like the back of my hand, but beyond that I'm still just learning.

    the documentary totally missed out the asian side of drum&bass and jungle. which broke into the scene in the UK circa 1997_8 post Goldie and the Bristol scene. With Punjabi, Bangladeshi and Pakistani artists borne or living in the UK Jungle has had a huge influence. Further, now post 2010, a lot of Jungle & Drum&Bass is popular and essential in the making of artists like VIVEK and Nasha Records.

      another interesting nuance I wasn't familiar with was that specifically many of the artists mentioned dnb being a sanitized/whitewashed version of jungle. fewer reggae samples, less explicitly black. never noticed that but it does track. Dnb isn't crazy white by any means, but I do hear fewer reggae and carib samples. Then liquid dnb came and jazzed it back up haha

    best times of my life, it was a great period for the UK in terms of music and it thrived in the underground, I particularly enjoyed it up to about 1996ish...I wasn't a follower of Drum N Bass as much because of what they described here, it became 'commercially popular' and lost its edge and ideals

      Drug changes, and a desire to move away from the approaching mainstream. A re-classification in the press based on the usual race element. Dj's spending too long in clubs and pushing faster and harder to continue shocking crowds. Same stories on repeat....

    • @yourconscience507
      @yourconscience507 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a lot of electronic genres though .. Look at Hardcore in 1991 and then 1993 .. And then '96, and '99, and 0'1 and '04 .. Everyone of those time periods sounds like almost an entirely different genre. Sometimes when artists hear a sound they all like they just naturally gravitate towards making that sound.
      Electronic music seems to evolve a bit quicker than instrument based artists do, so you'll see reslly drastic shifts in style when someone does something that really stands out that people try to emulate
