Meshuggah - "Do Not Look Down" (Eldritch Nightmare Edition)

- I took this concert video • MESHUGGAH - Do Not Loo... and fed each frame (downsampled to 15fps) into VQGAN+CLIP using a host of nightmarish prompts and my own custom scripts aka "Beholder" wizardhead.com... to produce the exquisite abomination you see here.

How fuckin love did this take, god damn lmao
The computer does the heavy lifting. Most of the five minute videos have taken roughly a full day (20 hours or so) to render on a cloud instance with a single 16GB RAM GPU. It varies depending on parameters like number of iterations training of the various VQGAN perceptors and things but once I press "go" I wait anxiously for a day to get a final result. So I often render little bits and tweak things and kick it off again and tweak things again a lot before I arrive at something that "works" for me. It's pretty chaotic.

Every time I utter the necromantic incantation that initiates the render sequence of the profane algorithm and watch as one by one the images flow out of the oozing ichorous pipes of my machines I feel the same way: "WHAT?! this rules!"
Was this done frame by frame?
Yes. However, it is of course entirely automated by python scripting. This particular video was about 4440 frames, each one taking about 9 seconds to render on the cloud instance provided by my Google Colab Pro+ account.
The bigger trick is figuring out what cross-frame transformations need to be performed to achieve the best level of continuity from frame to frame while allowing the hallucinator the freedom to be creative with the next one.
