      Haha, thank you guys! I've definitely missed sharing projects with everyone these past couple months (i promise there's a tone in the works and uploading soon!) but as you know, these vids are a Full time job at times and well.... life has been busy and TH-cam hasn't been high on the priorityy list. On a related side note: Big cheers to your Channel, I just checked it out and really dig it. You've got a new sub! Cheers Andres and Ali!

    Looking good, been waiting to see this one! Using my 2 smoke Yam 9.9 I get 26mph (loaded w/beer and 55#'s of dog) on my 1973 14' Cricket build from 2021. The Cricket was a sub-$300 FB Marketplace find - boat, trailer, and 15hp Johnnyrude. Will make a vid with/from stills of that boat soon.
    Currently building out a 12' tri-hull (think Sears Gamefisher clone) that should handle chop a little better, she gets 24mph with the Yammy.
    Both are built with 'expedition/camping' in mind - i.e. open floor plans, to be able to sleep aboard. I love a small efficient fun boat - especially when they are cheap! :D
    Looking forward to Part 3!!!

      Right on! These sound awesome and super functional for your intentions. 👊🏼. I just googled the cricket and found yours on microskiff, it’s super cool! Good luck on the new build, would love to see it when it’s done! Cheers!

      Search YT for it. There's one that a young guy made in Sweden or Denmark IIRC, as a school project. Good results, a good bit more engineering is needed. :)

      @Life at the Waterline I believe I have watched all the diy videos. Waverider in Australia is the only company that makes one that's not ridiculously priced. I assume no one makes in the US due to liability. I'm sure someone would forget to pull them up and crash into a sandbar.

    So glad to see you back. Love these builds. So inspired I'm going to have to do my own.
    What size of ply and what grade did you use for sides? What are you thinking for the tops of the gunnels? Was going to try splitting some drain pipe and sliding that over as a mold on mine then glassing over that. Might be faster than a ply shelf

    • @diywaterworld
      @diywaterworld  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tom, thanks so much and thanks for the question. The sides were made out of super cheap 1/4 sande ply. Not the best for boat applications but…. Considering we’ve laminated both sides and they will be completely sealed / never drilled into / compromised …. I’ve had great success with this wood. :)
      For gunnels , I’ve been really split. I love that idea / style with pvc or water pipe insulation, very easy and functional. But… I’m leaning a lot towards a wood cap ( I’ve got some cool pieces that are hardwoods and wood look slick). Time will tell haha! And right on, stoked to hear you’re inspired to do a build! Definitely share / update , I’d love to see how it goes! Cheers!

    im currently building a custom 1989 chaparral 162 xl about 700 pounds possibly 600 being i gutted the whole boat for more room what size motor would you go with I have a 115 ,1975 Evinrude but it is a manual tilt and I think it's a bit too much for this 16 foot boat do you think a 50 or 60 would push it without having to max it out or idk i'm new to boats lol

    • @diywaterworld
      @diywaterworld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stacie, I think if you build it bare and light enough you’ll have no problem scooting around with a 50 hp motor. The old evinrude 2 cyl 48 spl , 50 hp , and 55 hp are all essentially the same motor and great candidates for a budget motor and super reliable / strong if you find a decent one. Good luck with the build and keep us posted!

      Thanks so much, yeah that seems to be the shared consensus... I had a few folks reach out wondering if I was lost at sea on a tiny boat adventure. :/ But all is good, youtube requires a lot of attention and priority on my end for the way I try to engage and share and honestly the last couple months has been extremely busy on SO many levels of life. Regardless, I apologize for getting folks worried, I've missed sharing and engaging with everyone and I'm stoked to get back into the groove with uploading these last couple months of builds / adventure. Cheers!

    It’s kinda weird, you talk about PPE when glassing and grinding but then you drive to the ramp without wearing a seatbelt.
    Statistically, you are more likely to crash your car, than have an industrial accident 😂
