- Meatballs can be really good if they are prepared and cooked right, so let's see how Sainsbury's have done with theirs...

That creepy face in the mash and those happy faces on the balls were just too much for me! 😂
Your pareidolia knows no bounds mate :)
Looked very nice, loved the piano,, all that she wants, is another baby Tune. Have a great weekend x
Indeed another foot tapper Miss Dream, you have the best weekend too :)
"Examine the balls" excellent 😂 but also excellent advice us men should be examining our balls regularly
Quite right mate :)
Had to laugh when u were 👀for flavour no thanks from me they can take that meal and shove it thanks for sharing paps 😊
Right where the sun don't shine! Cheers m :)
Good Morning Papparoni, another top drawer review here on this Sainsbury product - I do like Swedish Meatballs myself but so often find that when it says " Style " on the packaging it is never quite the same ! on the upside there was no Gnarl in there ! it is a shame that so many of these ready meals manufacturers are unable to get Mashed Potato right - still onwards and upwards ! have a great Thursday Mate :-)
I agree mate, using the word style masks all manner of rubbish! Make it a top day :)
I meant to mention to you that I finally got round to making some homemade Ikea meatballs and the cream sauce a little while ago. I used the recipe from their site. I really didn't expect much from it because I have the packets of the Ikea cream sauce and the recipe ingredients were totally different. I was actually amazed when I made the meatballs and sauce. They actually tasted the same as the ones in the Ikea restaurant. The only thing I did differently was that I put the minced pork and minced beef in my food processor to make it a bit smoother and I added a pinch of allspice to half of the meatballs just as a test. Tasted great with just that pinch of allspice but the others tasted absolutely fine without it. You need quite a dark stock/bouillon like beef Oxo cubes or Bovril cubes otherwise the cream sauce will look anaemic. The recipe adds soy sauce but the one that I used, Kikkoman didn't add enough colour. But different brands of soy sauce are sometimes darker. Lee Kum Kee is very dark. Or you can add a tiny drop of gravy browning if using Knorr stock etc. But overall when I served it with mashed potato and frozen garden peas it was an absolute winner 👍I'm looking forward to making them again. I will give these ones a miss. Nice one Pappa 👍
That's fantastic nice one Emily. I don't think I've had the Ikea meatballs as I know that I wouldn't enjoy going to Ikea in the first place so this could be a way of me trying them :)
@@Papparoni I love Ikea. I just edited my comment. Sorry it is so long lol. I can sometimes ramble on a bit about cooking because I am so obsessed with it:)
Said before me old mate papparoni. Get a big bag, 1kg average content 70 Swedish meatballs from Farmfoods for £5.99. And a bag of your favourite frozen mash add butter milk or cream and season to taste. Far superior and far more cost effective. Still loving the reviews please keep it up.
Many thanks Dean. I'm actually considering demonstrating how to make ready meals for less :)
the turkey burgers are ok from there , £1.30 with the nectar card . not frozen . had them last week , will deffo buy more
Good to know, cheers Anthony.
Time to start a diy side channel? Beat them at their own game!
Stranger things have happened!
@@Papparonionce a week, you pick a dish, we send a how to recreate at home?
Unexpected mention today 😊 i agree tho got to like olive oil some are quite strong in flavour -bitter and peppery but I like that! Shame the balls were mushy, cant be any worse than the tinned variety 👍
Let's face it, it was about time I tried your suggestion from yonks ago, and I thank you as I adore olive oil so it works for me :)
Asda do their own Swedish meatballs in a crean gravy with garden peas
Ah ok, thanks for letting me know George
Swedish meatballs, IKEA has the right idea. Worth a punt paps but no, I won't be buying. A suggestion for you, I tried the Sainsbury's lime chilli and coriander salad dressing today. Best yet of all the others that I've had and is pleasantly hot too. Masses of flavour and I wish I tried it earlier, rather than the regular olive oil. Speaking of which, I do mash with it too, luv it 👍
Nice to know another olive oil mash lover Uncle, I may well try that oil you mentioned too :)
Ace of base! nice job Pap👍 sweaty balls hmm I might pass!
Cheers mate, indeed that tune reminds me of carefree days up the park with some Bacardi :D
@@Papparoni ah, the 90s🙂happier days
If i get that kind of mash potato in a meal,i mix in some white pepper and some MSG !...you'll thank me later 😊
My mate's got some MSG, I'll liberate some... ;)
200g Swedish meatballs from BnM £1, a 200g potato from a grocer 20p, pinch of salt, job done. These prices are now unrealistic and not convenience food anymore. I mean Sainsbury's prices are as bad as MnS or Waitrose now. Ppl are going to stop falling for this soon I hope. Keep going Pappa, ppl need to be disgusted by the prices and quality of food we're getting.
They already are Edward, a lot have mentioned to me that they now bulk cook and freeze their own ready meals, happy days.
Beginning to think you've won the lottery with all these expensive ready meals your noshing lately!!
Hahaa, I wish mate!
Big Pap is a working Man like the rest of us. Everyone is aloud a treat.
I would have thought that would have been one of those Iceland meals for a pound 🤔
I tried an Iceland meatball meal back on 6th December 2021, it was £1.79 and really nice. Please do feel free to see... :)

You didn’t really sell me these “slight sweaty” balls 😂 can’t say I’m surprised at the lack of seasoning, most of these ready meals skimp on seasoning.
Hard things to sell mate!
I’d rather pop a knob of butter into the mash and season it up a tad, however the meatballs were a let down and there was not much you could do about that, all in all, a convincing let down 😂
Great way of putting it Mark, an 'convincing let down'!
Oh dear Papp... Anything labeled as "Style"... Usually means... "Tastes nothing like"... 😂 Sainsbury's have got a damned cheek charging £3.25 for that my friend... A tiny portion of cheap Mashed Potatoes and Gravy... With just six small poor quality "Swedish Style Meatballs"... It's a rip-off mate... You can also buy from Sainsbury's... A 400g pack of Smörgåsbord Original Swedish Meatballs that i buy myself for just £2.75... They can be eaten either hot or cold straight from the fridge... And they contain roughly 28 to 30 delicious tasting Swedish Meatballs in every pack... Add a 400g ready made pack of Sainsbury's Mashed Potato for £0.84... Along with some home made Gravy from your own Gravy Granules in your kitchen cupboard... And you can then have two much larger meals for only £3.59... Just an extra £0.34 more than this Sainsbury's 400g ready meal version... And with there being so many Meatballs in these packs of Smörgåsbord Original Swedish Meatballs... You can have way more than six Meatballs Papp... 😋 Many thanks for the review my friend... It's very much appreciated... All the very best Papp... Cheers mate. 🍺
Cheers Rick, I think making our own has to be the way forwards what with the consistent price increases. I may even start doing some videos demonstrating exactly that :)
@@Papparoni Great idea Papp!... Give it a try and see what the viewers think of your idea... I'm sure they'll give you plenty of feedback my friend... 👍 Cheers mate. 🍺
I would have chucked some butter at that mash Paps, have you tried frying eggs in butter? Adds to the flavour I think. (This message was brought to you by the national council for butter manufacturers.)
I have indeed Neville, I think eggs fried in butter are a wonderful thing :)
Again Cattaroni has the last say on the matter. I hope she was out of earshot when you were describing the earless cat like appearance of the meatball.
Wow a woeful 4/10 ttlb. That's below average!
Sveeeeeeeen! You forgot the seasonings.
Great tip using a bit of olive oil in the mash. I've done that and also used avocado oil. Garlic butter isn't too bad either. Can't beat sour cream though. It's the best.
Nice review John. See you next one 👍🤤😀
Are you have a bit of a cold snap over your way. Winter is settling in here. Monday morning it was 2.9 deg in Richmond and -1 over the mountains at Bathurst.
Another 4.7 deg start for me this morning. Brrrrrr.
It is a touch chilly hence my coat today mate, I wonder what weather they'll chuck at us next ;) I'll try the sour cream suggestion as I really like the stuff, and worry not, Cattaroni can take anything! :D
@@Papparoni As you've mentioned before, she's a Warrior 😸😻
Sainsburys used to be a quality store but has definately gone downhill in recent years
Indeed I remember rating it as the posh supermarket until Waitrose showed up, shame the clock won't be turned back eh Jane :)
Hi I would add butter to the mash
Always works well I find Adrian :)
Papps.
How's your blood pressure? Almost everything needs more salt😮 very bad for you. Noticed in the end outtakes the cat wanted some 😂
Just had my annual check up mate and everything was 100% :) I don't use white salt, I use Persian blue salt, far better for you. As for Cattaroni, she makes her wishes known, loudly!
Good for you, I can't afford Persian blur salt, so I avoid it altogether😅 my check up early June, and I have the " unholy trinity "as I call it high blood pressure , high cholesterol and diabetes but its always OK if there's everything in moderation. Cateronni sounds like every pet I've ever owned, never backward in coming forward 😅
One things for sure Paps, any ready meal meatballs can't be any worse than the god awful tinned ones out there!😄 Still, you would have expected a little better from these, a pretty poor showing really!
Quite so Mr Atkinson, there is certainly a gap in the market for some quality tinned action :)
You should try the Plumrose vegetarian meatballs in sauce.
The meatballs aren't too bad, but the sauce is woeful. Tastes like it was cooked in a fishermans boot
Ah AoB - such a classic tune of it's time, nicely played mate! / You have done the work for me, not that interested in this meal! / Mark,.
I nod my head to that beat every time!
Looked very ordinary to me Papp
Yep, nothing special here mate
No Loganberry jam. Another rip off from a profiteering supermarket 😭. Avoid there chow mein too paps it's rubbish, tasteless, expensive muck.
No problem there Andrew, I've tried a handful of supermarket chow meins and they were all terrible, so that Morrisons one will most definitely stay on the shelf :)
Sweaty balls hmmm. That's not a good sign pap! Last time i had sweaty balls was from my ex boyfriend but i won't go any further lol. Food manufacturers are really skimping on basic seasoning, it's called skimpflation unfortunately. Which is a massive turn off, because you expect some salt & pepper in the mash.
I can see why he's an ex Ashleigh! Like the term 'skimpflation', thanks for alerting me to it :)
@@PapparoniWelcome pap. Basically skimpflation is where food manufacturers swap ingredients for cheaper alternatives! So whenever you see a "new & improved" recipe, it basically means they've cut corners to save money.
Roger that :)
@@Papparoni Affirmative captain Pap! 😅
