Hey Glenn, I have a tip of the week that maybe you can implement into future shows. This weeks tip: Perform a random act of musical kindness! I met a highschool kid working at a local gas station today and he was listening to Testament. We started chatting and he said that he plays through his dads old Line 6 head or his little Peavy practice combo w/ a Line 6 distortion pedal and that he was working to save up enough cash for ANY Orange amp. I recently upgraded to a PRS MT15 from an Orange Micro Terror. I came back 15 minutes later and handed him the Orange . After he said “this is the coolest thing ever” I told him he could have it. He tried to offer me some cash but I told him “it’s all yours man” and I don’t think he believed me at first. Had he said any other brand I never would have thought to have given it to him. My point is that I didn’t do this for recognition or praise. I did it because I could help out a good kid I met over good music and helped to make a good memory. So, if any of you have a piece of gear just collecting dust that you’ll never use again, give it to an aspiring musician. Who knows, you might just make a difference. Fucketh thou Sir Fricker!
I wanna get butt hurt on the channel in front of everyone I'll work on a complaint Something like.. " Gleeeeen! I don't rely on my guitarist to give me rides! My mom does that for me and am am almost not late sometimes!

Addition to Gibson-Headstockstyle-Tuning Instability: If you struggle with this take a look on the "String Butler". You put them between the two E Tuner on the Headstock and it's made so the string pass through the nut in a straight line. It can help a lot with that issue!
it's ridiculous, I thought after new management they'd focus on qc more. But that's not the case. It's a shame since I love traditional spec Les Pauls and looking for an ESP with those specs is pretty hard unless you get the USA stuff since the E-IIs seem to be the non-full thickness models. There's Heritage too but you'd have to hunt for those imo.
If you are going to get an SG or LP then consider buying a String Butler by Dietrich Parts, that little gizmo apparently is supposed to fix the tuning stability problems on those guitars.
Quality guitars to start out: my elder son started with an Ibanez GIO for € 180,-- when he was 15 years, got a second one with a caved top for € 230,-- 2 years later and went to an Ibanez Prestige when he was 20. Shorty after this he got an LTD 7 string. He now has four guitars he is able to record with. Every one of this four guitars plays and feels great, has a real good tone and stays in tune for days while played.
Jaden Bass lmao holy shit man, you just made the perfect guitar center pitch. Accept they are basically garunteed to give you the “dude you gotta plug a Gibson into a Marshall “ speal
Sorry for late... But next time if Gibson fangirls will start yelling "not staying in tune is ok" and "accurate enough" ask them if they enjoy driving a car with lying speedometer, 2 inch door gaps and radio, which starts losing station every 2 minutes.
Don't know if it's already pointed out, but one of the biggest things why epi's stay better in tune then gibsons is because the angle of the head stock is a bit more shallow with the epi's, so the strings slide better in the nut (less friction). That's why I 'm happy with my epi.
I just got one for the first time today and it feels like I'm going to have to spend hours learning to use and set up the thing. Mine is not currently set up to bend, so you can go crazy bending notes and it just hangs there like you aren't bending the note, it's unchanged to the point that you could tune a guitar from the note that comes out. I don't find this useful at all, and I'll need to figure out how to set it up properly. I hope I do learn to use it and like it because the advantages are well documented.
In regards to the tuning 'debacle,' one of the things that I have found over the years is that most tuning stability issues are user error. I have used the Danny Gatton/Joe Walsh tuning method since I started playing out in my younger 'club days' and never had tuning issues on any of my guitars regardless of brand or price point. Straighter string path (like on an ESP, Schecter, or Fender for that matter, lends to a little more stability and less string slack... but tuning properly (always bending your strings and then tuning up to pitch and never down {if you tune down to pitch, simply bend the string and tune it back up to pitch without overshooting} will give you solid tuning every time. It took some learning, but I find that most guitarists aren't aware of this and it is something that I teach all of my students. Gibsons, Gretsch, and a multitude of other brands suffer from the same malady (Sammick, Valley Arts, DeArmond, Guild, etc) and I realize this is a metal channel and those arent common choices for the metal player, but I think that the Joe Walsh tuning method is something that every guitarist could benefit from knowing. A little knowledge never hurt anybody. Much love and respect! I look forward to your videos every week! Eat a bowl of dicks, Glenn! Hahaha Respectfully of course!
At this point, you could buy a $400 Epiphone and there would be a significant high chance that the quality will be better than the Gibsons on the wall.
They're usually pretty comparable when it comes to fit and finish. You just pay a premium for one over the other. It stings a little more when you pay 2k+ and get $600 quality.
Andertons has explained this SG tuning issue many times. I wonder if they got all this hate as well? Keep up the great work Glenn. Most of us appreciate you.
Glen, this may be a little lengthy but I couldnt resist. I'm an avid guitar collector and just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. You are absolutely correct.....Schecter Hellraisers are incredible. I own 2 of them and they are top notch!! I also own several LTDs, the quality and playability is second to none. Especially for metal!!! I also own 2 Gibson Studio Models, a 1992 Les Paul and a 2007 Les Paul. These are great guitars, especially the 2007!!! I can understand where the Gibson fanboys are coming from. Gibsons have a certain mystique.
I've never tried the Evertune stuff, but a GraphTech Black Tusq XL nut has saved my guitar. Sometimes it just takes an affordable nut swap to get the job done. Better tuners are simply icing on the cake.
Hi Glenn, greetings from the u.k. I just got a left handed Gibson (second 2019 release where the traditional became the standard again my first premium quality guitar) and I have to say Im absolutely in love with it. I’m getting it set up right now but aside from the low e sitting a bit high I can’t complain about the quality. Not thrilled with the company itself and how it conducts its behaviour but I figured what the hell. Good is good!.
My LP is my #1 and I love it but I definitely had an odyssey in getting it to stay in tune, just like most Gibson owners. Properly filing the nut turned out to be the issue and now it plays like a dream.
There are also locking nut mods for Gibson guitars, as well as drop in, locking microtune bridge heels. Also, my B.C. Rich has neckdive. I learned that SG and some L6-S a couple years ago, and before that, I thought only B.C. Rich guitars had that issue.
When it comes to newer Gibsons I have to agree with him. I had a 90's V, I put a roller bridge on it, locking tuners, adjusting the string anchor, nothing would keep it in tune. I don't have tuning problems on my 1974 LP Custom.
I have the LTD ET-1000 for a few years now and I think I've tuned it once or twice. Ingenious mechanism. Only problem I've had is the the bridge parts can rattle a little bit. I just stuffed some foam in there and problem solved.
About locking tuners, Sperzel tuners are a good price, AND they are reversible. I just learned that a few months ago. Unscrew the button and disassemble the tuner. The worm gear will slide out and you can slide it in from the other side and reassemble the tuner. Damn smart designing if you ask me.
Schecter makes a hell of a great guitar. Had a C1 for about 3 years and its always amazed me how well that thing stayed in tune. Good reminder on the intonation, and also don't forget to to give that truss rod a check/adjustment.
My brother bought a Les Paul Custom in 89-91 (can't remember exactly when) for $2500, and he ended up replacing the pick-ups because the bridge pick-up didn't work. That guitar also had tuning stability issues, until I did the set-up on it and wound the strings properly on the tuning pegs (hint: watch the video with Joe Bonnomassa's tech).
It's funny that you mention that you had no issues with the epi, cause I have 2 epi less Paul's one is in drop C and the other has a floyd and is in drop A, and aside from being at the extreme end of almost not being able to intonate the one in Drop A, both stay in tune extremely well,
Installed D'addario auto trim lockers on my 7-string. I had the same issue with only being able to source 6. I called customer service and explained I couldn't find a set of 7 nor a single tuner of theirs to buy anywhere. They sent me #7 for free. I was floored.
I have an Ibanez guitar I found at guitar center that was on sale for $110. I tried in this isolation room through a 100 watt Marshall and played it against several $3000 to $5000 Gibsons that were on display in that room and it held it's own against those guitars..It is one of those one of a kind gems that wound up being my main live guitar for several years..Its not as pretty as those Gibsons but man it has kick ass tone and playability..I agree that what works is way more important than what you pay for it..My main guitar now is a Dean MAB I bought at a pawn shop for $80 with a Floyd Rose. It stays in tune so well I have played 40 song gigs with it and never had to retune all night.
Glenn hit the nail on the head. Other companies (namely ESP) make Gibson guitars better than Gibson do. 15 years ago I was looking for my first proper guitar. I love the SG shape but was not enamoured when I tried a few Gibson’s, I then picked up as ESP viper and bought it after 5 minutes of playing it, it’s still my main guitar. It’s perfectly balanced and stays in tune perfectly, plus sound awesome with EMGs.
This bassist is watching the show! I'm also a Gibson man for my guitars. My 2001 Gibson Les Paul standard, bought from my good friend Victor Griffin from Pentagram has never had a tuning issue, ever. Has always sounded great and never let me down after it's been gigged and played hard. But the SG in that video wouldn't stay in tune. Gotta call it as it is. Lots of them haven't...
Excellent topic. I've never understood brand loyalty. My main guitar is a $100 Jay Turser strat body (I don't care what anyone says, alder is a great wood). I've switched out the pickups with deluxe drives, the tuning pegs for fender locking pegs that I had laying around and blocked the bridge (I don't use trem, anyways). It's a beast now for a total of about $350. Fancy names on a headstock does not equal quality.
6:20 fewer tuning issues with the epiphone because the headstock is at a less extreme angle. The Epiphone actually has a superior design, believe it or not.
I have a 2017 sg faded and it’s great, stays in tune perfectly (with some nut lube of course). That said LPs and SGs are known for tuning issues so I’m not surprised to see a 7 string face the same issues. I 100% agree that a guitar as expensive as that 7 string sg should not have tuning issues like that. Either figure out a way to make it work or don’t make it at all!
Never had any issues with my two gibsons staying in tune.. my 2010 sg stays in tune so well! I guess It’s a lot about setup. Btw. It’s essential to put graphite into the nut slots after every restring, gets rid of most of the tuning issues.
I love my firebird and sg but theres a reason we have to schedule tuning breaks for live shows. Definitely gonna be recording the rhythm tracks on my bands next album with my strat with a floyd rose for this exact reason.
I have a schecter C-6 Elite myself. I can attest to how unbelievably stable the tuning is on it and even though it's only 300 new I wouldn't hesitate to cut an album with it. Dead nuts
I have a friend who owns a Music Man Majesty (John Petrucci Signature model), and he's been having issues with strings breaking at the bridge. He's sent it back to Music Man 3 times now, and is still having issues. just because it costs $5000 doesn't always mean it's a great guitar. I own a Schecter C-1 Platinum and and LTD EC-401. Made in Korea, solid guitars. I have yet to have a tuning issue with either of them.

I have a LP Junior that plays great. Sounds good too. But I have to tune it EVERY TIME I PICK IT UP.
I have more respect for this guy each new video, I'm new and love your videos man
About locking tuners, Sperzel tuners are a good price, AND they are reversible.
You are a dying breed Glen. Appreciate your passion.
It's funny that you mention that you had no issues with the epi, cause I have 2 epi less Paul's one is in drop C and the other has a floyd and is in drop A, and aside from being at the extreme end of almost not being able to intonate the one in Drop A, both stay in tune extremely well,
I’ve got a 16 SG standard. Knock on wood.. it stays in tune. I’m happy!
That's why I love your channel, you speak the truth and I learn things
Installed D'addario auto trim lockers on my 7-string. I had the same issue with only being able to source 6. I called customer service and explained I couldn't find a set of 7 nor a single tuner of theirs to buy anywhere. They sent me #7 for free. I was floored.
You're always a blast Glen!!!! Cheers man!!!!!
Gotta say, I love that death note shirt!!! Great video!
Another great video! Loved the cameo in the Steel Panther video!
Also: simplest solution to neck dive: a strat that doesn’t slip!
I love my firebird and sg but theres a reason we have to schedule tuning breaks for live shows. Definitely gonna be recording the rhythm tracks on my bands next album with my strat with a floyd rose for this exact reason.
its honestly super annoying how this channel never shows up on my homepage and I need to manually search your channel multiple times a week
I have a schecter C-6 Elite myself. I can attest to how unbelievably stable the tuning is on it and even though it's only 300 new I wouldn't hesitate to cut an album with it. Dead nuts
The one before last had me cracking up when Glen reacted to it....
Keep that shit going, I love 🤣
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard at viewers comments!! 🤣🤣🤣 Glenn is a huge inspiration for not giving a fuck what people think!
