Definitely. Any mistake could result in you spinning out, or getting T-boned by the guy directly in front of you, or sometimes both at the same time.

Not necessarily. I work at an indoor team sport, and every single one of the fastest drivers, on the slower hairpins, where you have to break, slams the break and puts the kart into a spin, power-sliding out of the corner. It picks up seconds to the other drivers

Cameron is just being aggressive because he's faster.. there are many times where the person in P1 is slower, but if they just take the perfect line and keep their speed, then P2 has no chance to overtake

@@tanay6003 In Nascar they use the technique of bumpdrafting, the driver behind receives a slipstream and in return you give the driver ahead a push. They use it to catch up to the leaders or drive away from the pack, that only works when the drivers have the same speed. You can use that same technique in outdoor karting with long straights too. But talking about indoor, as you saw in this video this has no effect on the driver in front he actually gains very little with it. And when your a little faster on a tight indoor track it can be very hard to find a way past, especially when you cannot really outbrake him. An example for myself at my local karting track there is an S turn wich is pretty much full throttle for me but not for most other people, and after that comes a straight with a tight hairpin so when I came out of the S turn I had much better momentum then the driver ahead so I don't wanna ruin my own momentum by going off the throttle. So what you do is just give them a little tap at the back, (also works very handy with unexperienced drivers who don't watch to see if there is anyone behind) to let them know I'm there and then I could safely go for the move into the hairpin without problems. But if you really bump hard into people on purpose then yeah you are just an asshole haha. I also had this once into that same hairpin a person didn't expect me we had a little touch I went past and the first hard braking zone he just went full throttle into the side of me, and then your just misbehaving on track.

Outdoors I do a quick, aggressive steering input to rotate the rear (not fully sliding, just on the limit) then quickly straighten it out as I'm applying throttle, I've found that much faster than trying to keep full grip F1 style. Indoor I have no idea how to be fast, I'm losing 1 second per lap to a guy I'm head to head with outdoor

this ^^ i work at a track, its all about jerking the wheel initially to get turn in and keeping your fronts straight as much as possible to maintain speed since indoor karts especially have awful acceleration, outdoors is more steering with brake/throttle since they have more power, indoors is more steering input + some throttle control and maybe a very slight tap of the brakes

    • @JHKartingUK

@@sixtenallingersandgren6674it depends on how fast/powerful the karts are, faster karts like 2 strokes or twin engines that go 70+ mph are more brake/throttle control steering and it looks like youre not even touching the wheel, at least for corners that arent too tight, gets more exaggerated the more powerful the karts are, or at least it tends to, im not sure about super karts though, those things are insane

I have never driven an ‘indoor’ go kart, but I there are multiple things that affect how a real kart handles. Tyre compound, front wheel camber, the stiffness of the axle etc. You don’t acquire a style that picks up the inside wheel, karts are designed to flex to do this because they don’t have a differential. I presume these karts have hard compound tyres for longevity which makes them slide around more.

Lemme tell you this. I weigh 360 pounds. IDC how hard I jerk that wheel, I guarantee you that inside rear wheel ain't coming up. For me it's all inertia driving.

With indoor karting the fastest way is to keep momentum. Brake as little as possible and only scrub a bit of the speed off. They’re not fast enough to need to brake and if you slow too much you can’t get the speed back.
