      He was always best at being the good hand who could make those around him look great, and great mind for the basics of both in-ring and character work. I think 10-20 years from now his biggest impact on wrestling will be through the people he trains, and that's not a knock on his time as a worker at all. He doesn't have the over the top charisma or 'it' factor, but I dunno if there's anyone better for bringing new workers into the business when it comes to teaching both in-ring work and psychology.

    I think Owens' gear works for his character, he doesn't really care about having the right gear or look, he's the antithesis of a WWE Superstar.

      No they aren't, In WWE everyone has been conditioned to see Superstars wrestle in Trunks or tights or some form of gimmicked costume. Owens looks like he's just come off the indies and decided to lay waste in WWE, he's the Anti Superstar, it fits his character perfectly. There is always an exception to the rule.

    This very eye opening to me. I was a die hard pro wrestling fan for 91-2006 (WWF ECW WCW) and I felt like my era of wrestling had come to an end I saw no one new coming up that I could enjoy. The last 2 or 3 years my step son has kind of got back in it. I heard what people were saying about TNA but I never go by what anyone says and wanted to check it out for myself. To me TNA never had a good enough product to keep watching a whole show. ROH i feel in love with. I watch more ROH now then I do WWE. Hearing what Lance is saying speaks volumes of the difference between the 2. Look at all the guys who went through ROH became great and became good WWE guys. Punk, Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens. The best guy TNA put now wrestles for ROH (AJ Styles). 2 years ago i told my step son that ROH in the next few years will pass TNA at some point. You watch ROH and you can see everyone trying with every bit of passion they have. I hope ROH one day has a 2 hour weekly show, prime time on a channel everyone can watch. They really are the best thing to happen since WCW, ECW, and WWF have died.

      Rick Cobos okay, gotcha. Alright, I'm a TNA fan myself, but i remember the old WCW before the NWO and I remember the WWF before the Attitude Era. So I try to keep things in perspective with my long personal history of watching wrestling and being a fan.
      It seems to me that obviously Lance was remarking about his own personal experiences with TNA way back in the early to mid 2000s. A lot has happened, good and bad. I do agree that no promotion should put a Face or even a major Heel in the position of looking like a joke. However TNA after Hogan/Bischoff has done some good things. The product is becoming entertaining again. Wolves and Heels had an awesome best of 5 tag team series. Knockouts are still a major draw. It seems to me there are pieces there to really recover and bring TNA up as a great brand.

    This is very interesting. Its always kind of thrown around about how TNA is incompetent but to hear what they say in the face of criticism to a guy like Lance Storm is really amazing. It does kind of show how the paths of ROH and TNA were laid out ten years ago till now, where ROH is on the rise as the next possible #2 wrestling company in North America and TNA is losing their TV deal. One wanting all the feedback to improve in every way possible and the other trying to keep people from noticing how bad they really are. Its a shame we couldnt have both TNA and ROH be amazing wrestling shows that could keep the wrestling business alive but sadly it seems we can only have one.

    I was never huge on Owens/Steen, but the people in these comments running him down are fucking laughably pathetic. It's like they take his success as a personal affront to them - either they're guys who've worked for a while on getting fit and have made nothing of themselves as a result and are bitter, or are out of shape guys that are pissy because they can no longer use their girth as an excuse for why they've made nothing of themselves. Hard to say which is which, fuck it - he made something of himself, good for him. He's done more than damn near everyone in this comment section, myself included, so perhaps the joke is on us and not Steen after all. says a lot about where both promotions are today roh says okay will take that and try to grow and they are growing more and more but tna just goes well he doesn't know what he's talking about we are doing just fine and they haven't made a profit back in 13 years. think about this roh and tna were founded in the same year roh is slightly older by like three months or so and roh has grown and grown with young talent granted they aren't doing 4.0 ratings but they haven't reached their peek, they understand they gotta build their brand and that takes time to do, i believe ufc was around for like 17 years before it got real big and wwe has been around 50+ years it takes a long time to build up a audience to compete against that however look at tna they've brought in Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, RVD, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Sting, Mick Foley some huge names and they still did a 1.5 and they haven't gotten that high of a number since. gotta disagree about Kevin Owens ring gear his current attire anyway i think it is okay for him to be dressed like that to wrestle it makes him stand out he doesn't fit the norm, now obviously if they have 10 guys wearing shorts and t shirts that's gonna need to change but just one guy doing it who has a screw you i'm here to kick ass and make money attitude i see no problem with it.

    I don't know what Bryan's and Lance's problems are with the basketball shorts/T-shirt look and I don't buy the "If a wrestler looks to much like a fan, people won't buy tickets to see them"-bullshit. Especially Lance Storm who worked for fucking ECW should know better, where 90% of the biggest stars wore cut-off jeans and a T-shirt of a random rock-band they were listening to at the moment. Hell, Dreamer didn't even wear shirts of bands, he usually just wore an ECW-shirt. How much more can you look like a fan in the audience than Tommy Dreamer? And what happened? He was like the Top Babyface of the company at some point. Not to mention how Storm himself looked. If you look for the blandest looking guy with the blandest looking generic tights, look no further than Lance Storm, no matter how talented he was.
    And I myself always liked wrestlers who didn't just wear normal wrestling clothes. It made them stand out of the masses. For example one thing that made CM Punk stand out to me when I first saw him in ROH was his ring gear before he switched to standart wrestling trunks. He would always wear different colored boxing shorts with "Punk" written on the side or simply a row of Pepsi logos or the Straight Edge X.
    Steen used to wear a singlet that looked quite good, but it also didn't really make him look menacing. Just like a fat guy who might me more athletic than you'd think. His current gear though? That makes him look like a big bully who can fuck you up. Much better look to be taken seriously. At least as a heel.

    • @AssassinoJaxon
      @AssassinoJaxon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the issue is the scale. Sure, the guys on ECW wore those types of things, but ECW was not WWE. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that appearance should be everything, but if the goal was to wrestle for the largest company in the world, you had to expect that, especially back in the 2000s, you couldn't get away with dressing like that and being a top star, Cena being the lone exception to that rule in WWE.

    • @Wurzelknecht
      @Wurzelknecht 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AssassinoJaxon
      Dudley Boys wore shorts/pants and cut-off T-shirts, Hardy Boys wore pants and T-shirts, Ambrose wears jeans and a T-shirt, The Rock worked the entire month of January 99 in gym pants and a shirt, Foley worked most of his career wearing a flannel vest over a T-shirt, D'Lo Brown wore a huge chest protector for at least a full year, Big Boss Man wore a prison guard uniform as part of his gimmick, hell even Taker has wrestled with a shirt on until 2000 when he changed to a singlet. The list goes on and on. It's not like every wrestler in the world has to wear either trunks or tights or else he won't get over. Quite the opposite. Those who stand out are the ones who get noticed. The whole reason Cena got over in the first place was his white rapper gimmick complete with the shorts and the jerseys. When he started in WWE and wore regular trunks nobody gave a shit about him. Not to mention that at the same time Owens is criticised for his gear, they are trying to push a guy to the moon who is still wearing riot gear despite that the stable that this gear was the signature of, has been dead for years now.

    • @AssassinoJaxon
      @AssassinoJaxon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Right, see most of the people you mentioned were all before 2000's time frame. Most all of them got popular during that Monday Night War Era, where Vince would be more willing to try different things. During that 2005 timeframe where Lance was criticizing Owens, how likely was it that someone who dressed and looked like Owens did was going to get over as a big star? Not very likely. I'm not saying that people can't get over dressing however they want, but back then Kevin would have been passed over without a second thought. Is it wrong? Yes it is, especially since he is so damn good at pretty much everything he does., but it is the truth.

    • @Wurzelknecht
      @Wurzelknecht 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AssassinoJaxon
      But then you have to say "how likely was it that someone who dressed and looked like Owens did was going to get hired" because we don't know if someone like that would've gotten over or not. The way I see it, there's nothing in the history of wrestling that suggests that you can't get over looking or dressing that way if you are a) talented and b) booked right. Case in point John Cena who got his first run as WWE Champion in 2005, so I don't see how his jeans-shorts kept him from getting over. The point is: Back then, Vince would've taken one look at a guy like Owens and just snorted derisively because he isn't a giant roid monster. But ever since the success of Punk and Bryan that sentiment seems to have changed. I don't know if Vince has gotten smarter or if Hunter just has a good influence on him, but now guys like Owens are not only hired but even pushed. Right now, Kevin is the Champ in his brand. Still wearing his shirts and shorts. So I don't see why he should have changed anything, nor why he should do so in the future because obviously this is his look, it fits his character and his talent speaks for itself. And appearantly he got over despite not wearing traditional wrestling gear based on those things.

    • @AssassinoJaxon
      @AssassinoJaxon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** And again, I will point out that this is WWE circa 2005 time frame. Cena had the look going for him, so much so that his outfit didn't affect him that much. Keep in mind that Lance storm criticizing Kevin back then would have been warranted because let's face it, this is Vince McMahon we are talking about here. Maybe nowadays Vince is more willing to be open minded towards some of the talent he has with him. I mean, A.J. Styles is also Champ of his brand, and who would have ever thought that A.J. Styles would ever hold the crown Jewel of WWE. The point being that back then a guy like Kevin Owens would have never made it in WWE. Saying that Owens is hitting it big now does not change the fact that 10 years ago he would have never had a chance here.

      AnsticePalo He sure did. I know he had at least 1 match with Booker T for the WCW Title on a Nitro during the time Lance held 3 titles at once. He also wrestled Justin Credible for the ECW Heavyweight title at Hardcore Heaven 2000

      Cleveland Anderson "This dude did not just try to book himself in a NWA World Title match and wander why no one called him back. Mid card star, main event ego."
      I thought you were talking about Jeff Jarrett.

    They are right about KO's attire. He looks like shit. Horrible clothes. That needs to change.

      That's been his outfit since the Indy days. He ain't changing it.

      @DarthCipient 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Headbanger142 He shouldn't be making those decisions. WWE should force some kind of change on him.

    • @Wurzelknecht
      @Wurzelknecht 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DarthCipient Why should he? Or rather why should WWE? Forcing Owens to wrestle in different clothes (what's he supposed to wear? small traditional wrestling trunks?) would be to force Cena into wearing normal wrestling attire. Or the Dudleys. It's part of their character and what got them so far, why should they change that?

    • @DarthCipient
      @DarthCipient 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Cena would have benefitted from a change too. He looks like shit in jorts and sneakers.

      DarthCipient But it's part of his character. How would that have benefitted him? I've seen footage of him before his hip-hop-gimmick when he wrestled in normal gear and it looked so out of place, generic and bad. Maybe I'm just so used to him wearing shorts and sneakers.

    Lance Storm has always been rather narrow minded. Chris Hero's superman shirt was sweet and his Hero's Welcome finisher was awesome. And its not like he was midcard comedy jobber either. Pro Wrestling has certain tropes that will always get over when booked right, and the Super Hero gimmick is one (Hurricane Helms). Narrow minded fuck, every week WWE is killing the business according to Storm. I agree that a lot of the comedy bullshit gets grating especially when its a waste of an awesome talent like "Macho Mandow", but 'cartoon wrestling' can work when you have somebody like the Undertaker who can seriously make their gimmick work. Having a charismatic black hole like Lance Storm help out Jim Cornette's Ring of Honor might make sense seeing as RoH is all about the in-ring action and traditional wrestling, but why the hell would the Russo-booked Total Nonsense Acid-trip consult him? They wanted to be WWE Lite, and they went under from it.

      +jenkind1 Hero's attire back then was awesome I agree (also about Storm being narrow-minded), but the thing is that his comedy shtick really made his ROH matches almost unwatchable to me, which was sad since there was this huge buzz about Hero on the internet that made him out to be one of the most amazing wrestlers of all time. And all he did in his first 2-3 years in ROH was being a clown. And the saddest thing about that was that I KNEW he was better than this, because I had seen his match against Danielson and some of his IWA-MS matches against Punk prior to ROH. Delirious was a comedy-gimmick too, but when it was time to put on a good match he did some comedy spots at the beginning but then went on to work a good match. Hero only really became watchable to me when he started his Young Knockout-Kid gimmick. He still was charismatic as hell but now he actually delivered in the ring and was in the best shape of his life.

      +Wurzelknecht While I get what you are saying and mostly agree with you, a Super Hero wrestler is almost going to be inherently clownish, but it can still get over with the crowd and like you said his matches were still good. It might possibly be a waste of talent and potential if nothing comes of it like with half the geeks in WWE, but I would rather have a talented guy get over with a silly gimmick than an untalented one.

      But Hero was no super hero wrestler. That was never his gimmick. His gimmick was that he was the douchy top athlete and top client of heel-manager Larry Sweeney and Sweet & Sour Inc. And no, his matches weren't good because they were marred by constant stalling, outside interference and clowning around, so they could never get any momentum. It sure made him a very hateable heel but his matches were shit or at least underwhelming. At least his singles matches. And as I said, it was really sad for me, because I had heard so much good about Hero's skills and was looking forward to seeing his matches, and all I got for the first few years was stupid gimmick-shit. You can have silly gimmicks and do comedy in your matches, but still have amazing matches. Michinoku Pro prooved that in the 90s and Delirious proved it in ROH and other promotions. But what Hero did back then was just...bad.

      ***** Oh I see what you mean. Then I agree with you. Still, those are heel tactics that are supposed to make you hate him.

      Yeah and they worked, but I just felt he overdid them a bit and it came to be detrimental to his match quality. You can be a dick in a match and still work a good match. I was really happy when he finally changed his gimmick and was able to deliver in the ring as well as on the mic. So sad that WWE fired him. Just imagine him vs Nakamura in NXT.
