The unequal allocation of funds to schools is the fundamental issue with our education system.
The elite schools will remain the elite schools, with better funding and thus more resources. Their alumni will continue to leverage their connections (and their Alumini's privileges) to secure future spots for their children in these institutions.
In comparison to the super-funded elite schools and the rest of the non-elite schools, well-informed parents will know what to do.
MOE tries to persuade people that "All schools are good schools," but they leave out the last few words: some schools are good for academics, some for sports, and some for nothing.
So it's really up to the parents' believe.

How about those schools that only allow Express and IP?

If all subjects are taken at G2 level, GCE O level will be taken in Sec 5?

The danger about ranking them based on strength and speed (eg express), you start pressuring kids at young age, especially by competitive parents who wants to brand their kids as smart and quick learner. I wonder how much would that help for kids who don't have enough time being kids in their childhood.

The new set up is exactly moving away from what you have mentioned. We all have different learning abilities. So in a way this is a more specific learning strategy catered for the students. And how I wished I had this set up during my secondary school days.

@@chenyl0525 you don get it. The system indeed change for the better but the cultural thinking remain the same and preserved with the way u brand and ranked the different pathways. “My son on express way” “my children didnt get express way but different route” “eh why la ur children didnt get there? My son smart, hence can get express way”. Esp at younger children, this is seen as pride for parent. Every parent wants to market their kids as smart or high IQ and the new system (given the way is branded) will feed that cultural thinking and children will be the victim. Not victim deprived of academic studies but cognitive development you should be getting at your childhood.
Consider another scenario: “my 30 year old son going for evening school to learn new skills to find a job”. Many parent would not see tht as pride but the cohort of friends or same age as the 30 year old son would see tht as pride of self achievement.

@@edwardv7991 cultural differences. You heard the term Tiger mum? Helicopter parenting? These are terms often associated with Asians across the world. I lived and studied in the US for awhile, and the Asians that grew up there, were as competitive as hell.
So the question is, if we remove competition in our society. Will that take away the “kiasu” mindset of parents here or will it actually increase the “kiasu” mentality? In recent times, MOE removed primary schools exams for children p1 to p3. The educators wanted children to just enjoy initial primary school education. But did that stop parents from being “kiasu”? On the contrary, parents are more concerned and anxious over not knowing their children “standard”. I am afraid there is no foolproof way of easing this kiasu mentality. Perhaps Singaporeans parents need to really ask themselves; what do we want for our children? And it all starts from home.

Brave attempt at explaining it thank you for this public service but the ministry’s jargon is so technical and confusing it’s still not easy to follow. Even more graphics could help, or finding ways to humanize the lingo even more.

Is the government trying to help our kids become independent thinkers, or dumb them down with this new move, I wonder?

This system is worse than the previous.
Going to Express Class of 4 years is like scoring 80 and above for all subjects.
This is the "Primary reason" for mental breakdown for the kids and Parents.
