meld always felt like a win-more strategy. i'll eat my hat if there's a game here where cgb melds and it is the reason he wins
I have even beat people that have lived the dream and melded say Urza and his Stone, not the same as melding these two cards but just showing how it doesn't even guarantee victory.
I have tried all different ways of melding mishra, rabbit batteries and reckless stormseakers were the most effective ways, and biggest issue I ran into was exactly what you said, it’s just a win more strat. It’s too obvious what you’re doing so either they just keep killing your pieces or if you are about to meld you are already winning significantly and they just scoop.
Well your deck has to be able to win without meld since many games you simply won't draw both cards.
@@Kilgore85 yeah I’m my Titania deck I almost never win by melding because they scoop. Sometimes I even see lines where I can meld but it puts me in a bad spot if it doesn’t happen but if I don’t try to meld I can just win the normal way.
@@Kilgore85 I have a meld deck using Reckless Stormseeker but I win most often by giving haste to Archfiend of the Dross. A 7/6 flyer on turn 4 with haste and you get to use all four counters.

Standard is plagued with it. I tried running my standard deck into alchemy and didnt run into infinite removal players, went on a 10 win streak too.

23:40 no no no CGB, you are the last person allowed to be salty at a brutal control deck disallowing all your fun with Rakdos colors. If you played more decks that didn’t include blue, your salt would be warranted, because as someone who played strictly Jund colors I’m never allowed to have fun on Arena. Haha.

I built almost exactly this deck in Arena this afternoon (just a couple of tweaks due to cards I have/don't have), and so far I've only played four games with it, but not only have I also not melded Mishra and the Dragon Engine, I have yet to even SEE Mishra in the deck. And I'm running three Mishras, not just two. 🤣
At 15:55, we almost got The One in best of one beating One in best of one.

Can we get an updated look at this in the current Ixalan standard please @CovertGoBlue? Been tinkering with Roaming Throne naming Phyrexian and when it works its amazing, just dont have the wild cards to spend on stuff to try at the moment. Would love to see another take on this.
Edit: Well... I'm sad that I've managed to meld with a throne out and the one in best of one wasn't lucky enough to 😢
I was excited about this deck! I tried it, it’s not as good as grixis midrange…. Standard kinda sad right now :(
I personally have an anvil/gleeful demo deck that runs mishra and dragon engine, I enjoy it quite a bit. I have won games off of mishra partially due to slow rolling or my opponents killing threats early, but it's not the most common thing.
Hey CGB, great video as always. I have been running a dragon tribal-ish deck on arena and also threw in Mishra/dragon engine. I tend to get it off semi-frequently because I have a bitter reunion to pop for that sudden attack to trigger the meld. Might be worth looking into.
Edit: Rivaz of the claw is also very helpful for pulling dragon engine out of graveyard.

If a Tainted Adversary blocks a Phyrexian Obliterator, the Adversary's controller only needs to sacrifice 2 permanents, right? Seems like we could set up situations where we throw away a Bloodtithe Harvester and it's token to do so without it feeling so bad. That or just the decayed zombies.
Yea, I don't think he should have let himself get destroyed by that obliterator having Adversary, it blocks the obliterator and because of the counter it gets when payed up, you have to sacrifice 3, maybe zombie tokens and 1 extra creature, it's devastating but could have kept the game going

Feels weird seeing him play aggro
I took out the tainted adversary for 2 squee and 2 gix command. And the early game can be so fast, melding is almost too much by the time you get there.
I've had a lot of fun playing mishra meld over the past few months. & yes; meld is actually very achievable.... but ofc at the same time you should not be depending on the meld because it is extremely disruptable.
There's definitely some differences in the way you've chosen to go Vs the way I played it. I came down on more of an anvil shell & worked the pair of them into there. No sheoldreds or reflections in my build. (I do have the cards, but they never seemed to fit properly into the plan.)
I might have to look & see if I have the list saved anywhere (it's pen & paper standard so I might not have a record of it). I'm not playing it currently, but only because I like to switch up decks on the regular. It actually did very well, & I stuck with it for longer than most of my decks.

Yes its called the legendary rule. You van activate a land/creature/permanent that is legendary, play another and use that one again if you got the means to
It's legendary, so it's subject to the legend rule. Tapped the first for mana. Mana floating, they played another copy, legend ruling the tapped version away which allowed them to then tap the new one for another mana.
Same idea as activating a planeswalker's ability, casting another one, then using the new one's ability again.

That looks like it would've worked just fine, good call! The opponent still would have been left with 3 health, but CGB's Sheoldred would still be alive, and the only cost would've been that last Treasure token. Not that it would've helped, as the opponent scooped next turn anyway, but still!
Yeah, I think that's a better line. The main thing you give up is the opportunity to Triple Bloodtithe for -6/-6 the next turn, but that doesn't seem worth it to not keep Sheoldred around/trade with the opponent's. Might be incorrect to even play the Adversary there as I think the opponent's only out is a sweeper.

I should say... on the game where control killed your fun. that's why we hate it so. Essentially you dont get to play and they do. That's why an Alt-F4 is the appropriate response. Enjoy playing the game by yourself :)

I've seen the meld, it's not a myth. 😂 It's fun killing your opponent while they're busy worrying about the meld.
A decent opponent isn’t going to play into removal, especially when you’re telegraphing it…. You should know this.

Don't expect to meld Mishra if you dilute the deck with Sheoldred and Gix. You've hedged yourself out of the win con. I meld this all the time, but you have to commit to it in the brew. Nothing short of 4x4 on Mishra and Dragon Engine. Also- key strategic point, play Dragon Engine into Mishra, sacrifice the Dragon Engine on 4 mana attack. The opponent will eat the double strike to stop the meld. Then you unearth and meld. That's the play.
You could have killed Adeline after it blocked the creature. It was a 2/2
Damage don't affect creature power/thoughness. it shows that way so you know that until the end of turn 2 dmg would kill it, but Adeline was still a 2/4. Only -x/-x effects work that way
@@Abarataphoto Exactly. Adeline wasn't a 2/2, it was a 2/4 with 2 damage. Arena just shows it as a 2/2 to make it easier to do the math.
